   Waitress was not an experienced. She was not good in understanding English to do her job. She was "lost" in getting the food order we requested, and we never got a side dish we ordered. We had to ask three times for a check, and it took her (35) minutes to get the check for us. Another waitress attempted to help and gave us the wrong check for our able as well. The overall hotel is a 10+, service in the Iron and Oak is a 0+. If I stayed at this hotel again, I would avoid the Iron and Oak for any dining.

   The pictures and description don’t mention that it is an open floor inside of a hotel. And the food and service match that. Also, they allow reservations on the app but it is open, first come, first serve seating. Would not recommend.

   The thing is that we made a reservation when we got there it was open seating with a sign that said seat yourself. There wasn’t a table available so we had to wait. The vibe is hotel bar rather then restaurant. They market it and show pictures that I don’t think reflect the experience. The one thing they had going for them is there amazing waiter we had.

   I was not aware the restaurant was in open space in hotel, so impression was not appealing. The service was good and friendly. The food was okay nothing stood out as excellent. The area was cold and sterile. Don’t think I will return if I’m visiting the Oakland area.

   James, our server, is the best thing about this restaurant. He is friendly, accommodating and attentive. If only he had something to work with... The steak frites entrée was overcooked and the chicken entrée was edible. The citrus bomb was extremely heavy on the grapefruit. My amaretto sour was fine. Overall, we would not eat here again.

    Cheeseburger & fries very good, Kale/quinoa salad was excellent. Shrimp tacos were not flavorful, were very skimpy and over priced. Friendly staff even though they seemed over worked. Comfortable setting. Convenient location because we were attending an event on the 5th floor. Beware of parking garage prices. We parked for 4+ hours. Cost $30. I guess hotels have to save spaces for their guests and tenants.

    We LOVED our waiter, he was professional, friendly and very nice ( wish I had remembered his name). We actually were surprised the restaurant was inside the Marriot and we were a bit disappointed but the food was ok and the wine was good. The waiter made the experience much better!!

    This is a hotel restaurant and your reservation really isn’t a ‘saved table’ even tho they confirm with you the day before. Got there and they said they didn’t have a reservation and it was open seating. Luckily it wasn’t crowded and there was a table for 7 people. Had 15 min before closing so waitress was nice and rushed to get our order submitted in time. Waitress was very friendly and helpful in helping us save costs with drinks for our table. Some had drinks included with their breakfast and some didn’t.

    Though OpenTable allowed me to do a reservation at a particular time. When my wife and I arrived, we were informed that the restaurant closed from 11 AM - 5 PM. Essentially a wasted trip from San Jose area.

    The food server was not a good listener or didn't care. We ordered the chocolate cake. We specifically said that we do not like fudge. The cake had fudge. When we mentioned it, the server dismissed our concerns. My wife's salmon looked process. She mentioned that it was rubbery and flavorless. My hamburger was dry despite my efforts of adding extra aioli and ketchup. I would not recommend this place.

    Sabi, our waiter, was so amazing. He was so accommodating and cordial. Apologetic, when he didn’t need to be. My mother and I were enjoying our time together. Great service. Great food. Looking forward to our next meal there.

    The menu was still limited so not everything I expected based on the online menu was available. The service and bar staff were great. It’s a hotel restaurant so as always it was over priced. The food was good. Id return.

    I didn’t realize the restaurant was inside a Marriott when I made the reservation, but I was very impressed with the food! It took a while to come out despite it being very empty, but it was worth the wait. I got the mushroom bisque and the beet salad, both were delicious and presentation was fantastic. The waiter couldn’t have been more professional. Would definitely eat here again.

    Right or wrong, I was disappointed that the restaurant was in a hotel -my husband and I were looking for a good local restaurant before we headed to a show at the Fox. Not the mandatory restaurant a hotel should have... But we stayed and ate as we were then pressed for time and we were really glad that we did. We ate at the bar and the bartender treated us like the "local" restaurant we were hoping to attend. GREAT food, creative menu, great service and fun location after all.

    Convenient location from where our meeting place was. We were seated as soon as we arrived and everything was set up well. The space could comfortably accommodate all of us which was great. Food was average. We didn’t have to wait too long for it which was great.

    The actual dining area was closed off and instead we ate in the very noisy bar area. Tables were awkwardly wide so it seemed necessary to shout across the table. Service was outstanding, but food was fair - a fairly well cooked ribeye steak was doused in a nondescript gravy - what was that necessary? Also it was served on top of a mound of diced vegetables making it challenging to cut to eat.

    It should be known that Iron& Oak is a hotel restaurant not just a restaurant inside a hotel. On top of that the service was mediocre at best and extremely slow. We had a reservation and when we got to the restaurant there were no tables available, probably because it was "seat yourself" on Valentine's evening. The menu was uninspired and the food was plain. I will not be going back to this place.

    If you want to sit in what feels like the lobby of the Marriott (because it basically IS the lobby), this place is for you. Otherwise, skip it unless you are actually staying at the hotel.

    Was looking for a good downtown restaurant before a concert. We do not know Oakland at all but found this restaurant on yelp. We did not realize it was inside the Marriott Hotel. So, it is a typical hotel restaurant with some nice options on the menu. Nothing too exciting but not bad as well. Service was great.

    We went for Thanksgiving dinner. The photos online made it look elegant. Hah! Five large tv's with four of them on football games do not make for elegant dining. The food on the special menu for Thanksgiving was very good; the food on the regular menu looked ok if you are looking to fill your empty stomach. We were very disappointed.     When I made the reservation, I didn’t know that it was a restaurant in a hotel, which was the Marriott in Oakland. Second, the Marriott is undergoing a strike with its employees so the menu was reduced to appetisers. I ended up leaving with my date and going to another restaurant.

    This was a terrible experience. When we arrived we were told “Oh you weren’t supposed to be able to make a reservation tonight.” Apparently there was a big event and we were clearly in the way. They sat us in a weird area where we were the only diners. They told us they would only offer us a limited menu bc of the event, then gave us each different menus. Then they disappeared so we couldn’t ask which was the right menu. We decided to go somewhere else, but I couldn’t book it through Open Table bc this bad reservation was a blocker (booo!) so my friend had to book it for us. We ordered fries while we tried to figure out where to go next and three wait staff just walked around trying to figure out where the fries were supposed to go, then they eventually just put them on an empty table. When they eventually got to us they were limp and cold. I tracked down our waiter, paid for our drinks (I refused to pay for the fries) and left. I will never return and I will tell everyone I know to avoid this place.
