Taking inspiration from the Viceroy’s house of New Delhi, the restaurant will be a glamorous Indian dining room with rainforest emperador marbles, dark timber paneling, gilded walls, and Lutyens inspired furnishings. The space will reflect the vibrant colours and intricate patterns of rare Jamavar shawls, offset with brass accents, hand-cut marquetry, and a sculpted bar that will celebrate the great textile traditions of India.
What Insiders Are Saying
Jamavar is an upmarket Indian restaurant in Mayfair with excellent food and a surprisingly relaxed atmosphere.
The quality of food was observed to have deteriorated over the year. What we got for lunch today was sub par and way below expectations from a flavour and presentation standpoint.
Not coming back.
Great service and delicious food
Absolutely fantastic service and food! Was my fiancé and I’s Anniversary and they brought a cake out aswell, it was gorg! Would definitely recommend.
We were not allowed to order off of different menus, even though nowhere did it state this. The food was fantastic, well seasoned and well presented. Was it good value for money? Not really. But we ate off the set menu which brought the cost down a bit, not much but a bit. Half the price would be more reasonable.
Better than Benares. Tasting menu well thought through and balanced. Some spicy heat too. Presented well. Wine flight went well with the tasting menu. Went for a Saturday lunch. Was there for 3 hours. Not rushed. Quite quiet. Toilets spotless. Although a better extract system in the restaurant would prevent clothes smelling after departure.
Lovely restaurant setting with very friendly and attentive staff. We had the weekday lunch menu which had a good variety of options (meat/veg/fish). Found the starters to have a bit more chilli than would have liked but food was very well cooked and tender. The dessert (jalebi caviar) was my favourite dish - a must have!
Great all round meal with enjoyable staff interactions
Excellent service, thanks for making our special day very special.
Yet another fantastic meal from this Mayfair favourite. The set lunch is phenomenally good value.
The food really disappointed us. The food was very very bland. Did not like it at all.
Wonderful food and ambience. Pleasant and courteous staff
Fabulous food and great service greeted us at Jamavar. The meal and ambience was above our expectations.
It is the best Indian restaurant in London for me. Everything is perfect.
The ambiance is great, warm and friendly service. Decent food, and the staff were accomodative for our requests.
Will definitely recommend to try Mango Rasmalai
Disappointing. Starters were nice but tiny portions. Mains very ordinary and not worth £50 for two dishes. Would not recommend. At this price point there are much better options in London. Their sister Restaurant Bombay Bustle is much nicer, better food and better value for money.
One word - Outstanding. My wife and I were absolutely blown away by the quality of the food and the ambience. Wonderful way to spend our anniversary, highly recommended
I've been to Jamavar four times now over the past couple of years, for special occasions. I've learnt that you need to request to be on the top floor of the restaurant, otherwise you will be directed to the basement dining area, which doesn't have the same feel and look to it as the top floor. I think the restaurant likes to do this even at less busy times.
Generally the food is at a good standard. I would highly recommend the Malabar prawns starter and the Tandoori prawns; both were delicious. Some dishes were not as good as they were on previous occasions. The lentil curry was a bit of a disappointment and not value for money-i could cook this better at home for a quarter of the price. The Thandi drink is usually tasty but wasn't made well the last time I went. The sorbets were delicious!
The service is generally good but I felt like our waiter wasn't as enthusiastic this time.
Good on the restaurant for always bringing a desert and candle to the birthday girl or boy.
Next time I will try Bombay Bustle as my last experience was great.
This is my second time to this restaurant and the food and service is amazing. The lighting and ambience is perfect.
Fantastic indian restaurant with a really interesting and unique menu. Each dish brings different flavours. Definately worth a visit.
Had a really loving evening. Had the tasting menu and the accompanying wine flight. It was delicious and the wines were really excellent with the meal. I was very impressed.
Food was very good, service was terrific. Can’t complain!
Great service, amazing food and cocktails !!
I booked this restaurant for Valentine’s Day which is my husbands birthday. It was the best Indian restaurant that is around Mayfair and good value for money. Also the waiters don’t pressure you to order more than you want which you can find around Mayfair. The food was amazing from start to finish. They also brought out an additional cake with candle for my husband to blow out :-)
Great food and service and really generous portions.
Overall the experience was good. I found the tables really close to each other, which made the atmosphere a bit cramped. The food was nice but I have had better Indian food in the past. I have to admit the potatoes were super buttery and really really well made, as was the cauliflower and peas. The paneer we had did not taste very nice. We also ordered the biryani which was taste wise ok but the puff pastry on the top was a nice touch. Service was outstanding even though they were really really busy!
Service was attentive but not itrusive.
Food was great and the ambience was nice too.
This restaurant boasts a Michelin star. The food was tasty, service was good, and the ambiance of the restaurant was very pleasant.
I have eaten at many Michelin star restaurants before and unfortunately I cannot work out why this place does. It's a nice restaurant but it is over priced, yes we didn't leave hungry and yes we enjoyed the food but it didn't have the finesse of other Michelin stars. It lacked personality and is basically a pricey curry house. I have eaten in many normal Indian restaurants with just as high quality food. I'm not sure what to make of this place.
Great value for money
Amazing high class experience definitely going back
I would like to suggest to either give the customer the option to choose how spicy the food should be or at least let the customer know what dishes are spicy.
First time eating Indian food, service was fantasticj, waiter super helpful w suggestions! Made us believers, absolutely delicious!
Limited Vegetarain options and limited choices on the menu
Delicious and flavoursome food, prompt service, and excellent staff. We had the tasting menu so were able to sample a bit of a lot, generous portions so were completely full by the end of it. Highly recommend the monk fish dish.
Amazing restaurant with amazing food and service was brilliant.. will definitely be going again! Thank you!
What a pleasant restaurant. Everything was spot on
The food was impeccable, the service - you think and your server is there, great wine list and chilled ambience.
An all round great restaurant and I will be coming back for more!
I really wanted to like Jamavar. I have seen celebrities endorse it, have recommended it to friends on the basis of its popularity and had high expectations from the Leela group’s newest venture. The service, the ambience, the aesthetics and the location all hit a solid 10. However, as a restaurant, it failed for me and pretty badly at that. The food here was simply disappointing. We ordered the lamb kebab which had no taste to it - it was like eating tofu. We ordered the butter chicken for our mains and asked for it to be made spicy, which they did accommodate. We couldn’t quite put a finger on it but again, the food was bland with just an overpowering taste of chillies. Desserts were just well.. desserts. Nothing spectacular there. I never thought anyone could go wrong with Indian food but Jamavar surprised me. Don’t think I will be returning, unless maybe just for drinks.
Jamavar was a lovely restaurant with great staff and we had a fantastic time
Food : Starters were good. Mains a bit disappointing.
Service : Atrocious. We were celebrating an event and the service staff was very pushy for us to order starters, mains and then at the time of dessert they just handed us the cheque saying they need the table back. Really unapologetic about it. I am never going to eat in this kind of pretentious restaurant again.
Food was amazing, ambiance and lighting perfect, staff very attentive.
