Taking inspiration from the Viceroy’s house of New Delhi, the restaurant will be a glamorous Indian dining room with rainforest emperador marbles, dark timber paneling, gilded walls, and Lutyens inspired furnishings. The space will reflect the vibrant colours and intricate patterns of rare Jamavar shawls, offset with brass accents, hand-cut marquetry, and a sculpted bar that will celebrate the great textile traditions of India.
What Insiders Are Saying
Jamavar is an upmarket Indian restaurant in Mayfair with excellent food and a surprisingly relaxed atmosphere.
Great service, amazing food and cocktails !!
Great food and service and really generous portions.
Overall the experience was good. I found the tables really close to each other, which made the atmosphere a bit cramped. The food was nice but I have had better Indian food in the past. I have to admit the potatoes were super buttery and really really well made, as was the cauliflower and peas. The paneer we had did not taste very nice. We also ordered the biryani which was taste wise ok but the puff pastry on the top was a nice touch. Service was outstanding even though they were really really busy!
Service was attentive but not itrusive.
Food was great and the ambience was nice too.
This restaurant boasts a Michelin star. The food was tasty, service was good, and the ambiance of the restaurant was very pleasant.
I have eaten at many Michelin star restaurants before and unfortunately I cannot work out why this place does. It's a nice restaurant but it is over priced, yes we didn't leave hungry and yes we enjoyed the food but it didn't have the finesse of other Michelin stars. It lacked personality and is basically a pricey curry house. I have eaten in many normal Indian restaurants with just as high quality food. I'm not sure what to make of this place.
Great value for money
I would like to suggest to either give the customer the option to choose how spicy the food should be or at least let the customer know what dishes are spicy.
First time eating Indian food, service was fantasticj, waiter super helpful w suggestions! Made us believers, absolutely delicious!
Limited Vegetarain options and limited choices on the menu
Delicious and flavoursome food, prompt service, and excellent staff. We had the tasting menu so were able to sample a bit of a lot, generous portions so were completely full by the end of it. Highly recommend the monk fish dish.
Amazing restaurant with amazing food and service was brilliant.. will definitely be going again! Thank you!
What a pleasant restaurant. Everything was spot on
The food was impeccable, the service - you think and your server is there, great wine list and chilled ambience.
An all round great restaurant and I will be coming back for more!
I really wanted to like Jamavar. I have seen celebrities endorse it, have recommended it to friends on the basis of its popularity and had high expectations from the Leela group’s newest venture. The service, the ambience, the aesthetics and the location all hit a solid 10. However, as a restaurant, it failed for me and pretty badly at that. The food here was simply disappointing. We ordered the lamb kebab which had no taste to it - it was like eating tofu. We ordered the butter chicken for our mains and asked for it to be made spicy, which they did accommodate. We couldn’t quite put a finger on it but again, the food was bland with just an overpowering taste of chillies. Desserts were just well.. desserts. Nothing spectacular there. I never thought anyone could go wrong with Indian food but Jamavar surprised me. Don’t think I will be returning, unless maybe just for drinks.
Jamavar was a lovely restaurant with great staff and we had a fantastic time
Food : Starters were good. Mains a bit disappointing.
Service : Atrocious. We were celebrating an event and the service staff was very pushy for us to order starters, mains and then at the time of dessert they just handed us the cheque saying they need the table back. Really unapologetic about it. I am never going to eat in this kind of pretentious restaurant again.
Food was amazing, ambiance and lighting perfect, staff very attentive.
One of my favorite restaurants, always come here when in London. The food is unique and service is excellent. Great ambiance.
I’m from Delhi and was looking for Jamavar to justify the reputation it has back home. However, I thought overall the food was average and best and not very good value for money..
Great ambiance and service for a soecial night out. Starters and dessert were our favourites! Great service :)
UNREAL in EVERY way! Wow! Best dining experience we had in London.
Been to Jamavar over 5 times; The food is outstanding, the service is extremely variable and the seating is cramped - you can hardly move without bumping the next table (and I’m slim built!). I have been to this restaurant several times and my favourite is the lamb chops and the biryani. Whist the food is best in its class, paying 120+ per person for a curry is a bit of a joke! - let that not spoil the experience of great Indian food though!
We had a 10pm dinner reservation at Jamavar and it was the worst experience we ever had. First of all, the service was extremely poor, borderline rude, and even though some of the food (chicken tikka and lamb chops) were tasty the rest was poor. It is by far the worst value Indian we had in London, we should have gone to Benares or Tamarind instead. The first waiter came to the table with the drinks menu pushing us to order cocktails before even asking if we wanted water and 5 minutes later came with the food menu telling us the kitchen was closing in a few minutes. When I asked when exactly he said 10.45pm, and it was only 10.18pm!!!!!! The wine menu was disappointing, very expensive poor quality wine (being French we all had a good idea of what they were serving). We ordered food, and wine and one of the guest was simply ignored! Two of the guests didn’t touch their wine because it was simply horrid and the waiter didn’t even asked why... We then had another waiter which was better but again not the service you would expect from a place that wants to be exclusive. Many other issues happened during dinner..:
Excellent, throughout service, food and atmosphere can't wait to come back....
Lovely food and professional service. Definitely coming back soon.
Four ladies had a lovely lunch here. Service was perfect; there when you needed them but not in your face. The set lunch menu was good value for money considering the restaurant is in Mayfair. Everyone enjoyed their food. Some dishes were quite spicy so worth asking if you don’t like spicy food. Only reason I’m not giving 5 stars for food was because the desert was not very nice. A rhubarb dish that looked the right colour but did not taste of rhubarb and had an odd texture to it. I would thoroughly recommend the pork starter - delicious! I would be happy to go back which, for me, is quite rare.
Fantastic service and we were well looked after throughout our stay. We will definitely come back again!
Excellent food. Great fish curry! A little too noisy, better for business people or groups
Outstanding restaurant. The service was polite and really attentive. Really tasty food and great presentation. Great selection of wines and a superb sommelier. Great ambience and really smart decoration. It was the perfect end to a really special night.
We will come back without a doubt.
It was our first time in London and we were in a celebratory mood. Javamar was a perfect spot for a special night out. We loved everything. The food and friendly service were top notch.
Expensive, average food, there were 3 of us and they crammed us onto a table of 2.
Over rated, and have certainly eaten far better food.
Would not visit again
Food a little disappointing given high expectations.
Service could not have been more sweet and attentive - they were lovely to us and really tried hard.
Great food, great service and great location, recommended
Great food, and brilliant ambience for a business lunch. Felt a little rushed at the end of food service, but other than that it was great!!
This is probably one of the best Indian's Style restaurant in London.
There're a lot of course to choose from and ther's also a tasting menu... but you have to ask for it to the waiters
The location is cute, the service is ok the only problem is that due to the many customers the place is very noisy.
Really helpful staff and excellent service. Food was on time and tasted delicious.
really lovely lunch good selection with taster type menu and the dishes were great.
Service was prompt and made for a very enjoyable lunch. Would be happy to recommend to anyone visiting London or anyone wanting a treat.
I'm looking forward to trying the dinner service one of these days.
Really good food
Great place, will definitely be coming back.
I had scallops as a starter, which were wonderful. The lamb biryani had the potential to be wonderul too, but lacked a vital ingredient: the lamb! I think I had two small pieces in a huge bowl of rice. This was £26 for a bowl of rice which is very disappointing for a resturant of this apparent quality.
Definitely an excellent restaurant with excellent staff and service. Will definitely come back again.
