A delightful restaurant. The food was delicious. The service gracious and the setting was so lovely.
Excellent food. Excellent value. Well lit without being too bright. Very pleasant staff. Appealing, appropriate decor. Immaculate bathrooms.
Wonderful service and most delicious food. The staff was gracious.
Our first time there and we loved it. Food, service and value were great!
Dine in France without having to fly there. Charming restaurant in the basement of the Cornell Hotel de France on Bush St. at Powell St. Decorated like a French country inn. Fixed price 4 course menu with many delicious choices which change daily. Only a few items have up charges and those are modest. Every dish served to our table was perfectly conceived, cooked and presented. The Grand Marnier souffle for dessert was the best we've ever had. Highly recommend this restaurant. One caveat: The restaurant does not have a vegetarian entree option, and strict vegans may be disappointed.
We had a memorable meal . Everything was lovely from the food,Very French traditional to the professional waitstaff to the ambiance. It is also a great value for 4 courses with many options to choose from. We will return for sure as will our guests.
Such a great experience with delicious food. Will definitely be back.
Didn’t like the carrot soup, which tasted like baby food, and one of our party ordered the filet mignon, which she found inedible. Waiter offered to bring a different sauce. Maitre d’ asked how everything was and we complained about the steak. He said he would talk to the waiter. Saw them talking, but nothing happened. The soufflé for dessert was excellent, but as we left the maitre d’ said “Sorry you didn’t enjoy the steak.” Seriously? No adjustment was made to the bill. Not recommended.
First time. Charming place unlike any other I’ve been to in SF. Felt like I was in France. Good food and service. Grand Marnier soufflé out of this world!
The decor and atmosphere reminded us of our intimate meals in the European towns of the French and German countryside.
We left Jeanne D’Arc feeling like we had been on a long weekend in France. Warm, attentive service by native French speakers, a delicious three course, price fixe meal with many choices, cozy, quirky setting. An excellent value.
We read the article in the Chronicle and could not believe we had never been there. We rarely go out, but Jeanne d'arc sounded so special and exactly what we love. It did not disappoint. It was a Christmas gift to my family from me. The food was fantastic. It was small, authentic, and special. Loved hearing so many people speaking French. We will go again for all special occasions.
New Year’s Eve . Busy and friendly. We did have to ask several times if our table was ready as it is downstairs . Service was good and food was delicious! Did not feel rushed at all which was nice. For the prix fixed dinner(@110./per person) and we brought our own wine(25/corkage fee) I think we shouldn’t have had to leave a tip. I did though , wine list is poor compared to many other places in SF. Al in all the food was amazing!!
The restaurant has a unique and authentic atmosphere. Enjoyed lively Holiday decorations and live music. Tasty classic French food.
This was a birthday dinner (we also stayed at the hotel) and the overall experience was wonderful. The restaurant is pleasantly decorated, soft lighting and a violinist. Service was friendly and attentive and the menus as a nice variety and wine list is small but many nice choices - we had an excellent Bordeaux. Food was very good - 4 courses at a very reasonable price and almost more than we could eat. The dessert soufflé was superb.
I highly recommend this charming place. Combined with the hotel it was like a weekend in France.
Do yourself a favor and enjoy outstanding service and delicious cuisine in a beautiful, charming and cozy dining room in the cellar of the Cornell Hotel. It is a very unique dining experience in SF. The authentic French cuisine is excellent. Dinner includes choice of an appetizer, soup, main course with vegetables and potato and completely decadent desserts. We are a family of five who have substantial appetites, and the amount of food included was more than adequate. On Saturday night there was an excellent violinist who only adds to the wonderful ambience. The prices for this type of dining experience is truly a bargain. I look forward to returning Jeanne D'Arc.
Delicious. Great value in otherwise very expensive city.
This is one of the very best restaurants I have ever tried in San Francisco. It is a true gem. Roberto was amazing and the owners of the restaurant so friendly. The food is off the charts and at $54 for a pric fixed menu a spectacular deal. We will definitely return. Take my word for it. Make a reservation and go. You will not be disappointed.
Very very French
Pleasantly surprised and pleased by ambience and how hospitable they were to us
It was quiet with a comfortable French ambiance
The restaurant was charming, evokes memories of the 7th arrondissement! Our server was Roberto. My friend started with glass of red. We both had the potato leek soup and avocado shrimp salad that were delicious. She had the duck magret and I had the NY steak au poivre. We both felt we had better, she said hers may have been overdone & tasteless and my steak reminded me of a slice of roast and was bit tasteless. The potatoes however were wonderful. We both had the grand marnier soufflé (my first soufflé !) Service was fine, still extremely busy due to holiday season.
Classic French cuisine. Always have a great dining experience. Grand Manier soufflé is a must for dessert
Very lovely Christmas Eve dinner.
Nice and authentic french restaurant. reminded us a trip we did in old villages in France. Just the right atmosphere... and hospitality. very good for celebrating a private event.
Very cozy and nicely decorated with painting and statuary in every nook and cranny. The menus for special events such as Bastille Day are extraordinary.
Charming room, excellent French cuisine, good service. A great special occasion place.
Average food and below average service. Never filled water or wine glass after the first time.
Owner Claude Lambert greeted us warmly as we were enjoying his fabulous Grand Marnier Souffle. This neighborhood gem was festively decorated for Christmas week. A pair of opera singers regaled the diners with Christmas classics in the cozy room with romantic lighting. I cannot wait to return for Bastille Day.
The quiet ambiance is wonderful, soft music in the background. The menu is perfect for me. I wonder if I will ever tire of the grand marnier souffle, but I doubt it.
I have a group of friends that gets together for dinner every couple of months. We’ve been doing this for about 20 years. Dinner at Jeanne D’Arc was one of the best ever! Everything was nearly perfect: the service, the setting, and especially, the food! Plenty of options on the price fixe menu and the food itself was wonderful! I hope to return in the near future.
Excellent French food in a beautiful setting. Relaxing , quiet, and much needed respite from the madness that is San Francisco. Not inexpensive but well worth it; wife and I spent $200.00 including 1/2 bottle of very good French wine and tip.
Absolutely loved this place. Great ambiance, food, and service. Our waiter was very good and Heurvi helped us with our wine choice and he checked on us throughout the evening even though we were not in his section. We will definitely be back. A must try.
We had the most wonderful time! Rooms where beautiful and dinner was exceptional. We will be back
This was a very fun experience. The food was fabulous!! The kitchen was a bit fast sending the food out. Need a little more of a breather between courses because the food was delectable!! The server Houri was great. Beautiful decor.
Impressive wine list, French chef is amazing! Will come back for sure
We had dinner for the 3rd time 12/12/18. Simply fabulous dining. Such a pleasure to experience peaceful and quiet dining. Today so many great restaurants are just too noisy. So in addition to stellar food, you can actually enjoy a conversation with your dining companion
Best meal we have had in a long time. The Pre Fixe menu was more than enough eat and with several delicious options for both the second and third courses and dessert. Loved the old Cornell De France Hotel that the restaurant is located in. Wonderful basement location for the restaurant that made us feel as if we were in a restaurant in France. It was warm and cozy with murals on the walls. The food was exquisite! Soup du Barry was light and tasty. The avocado stuffed with shrimp and chopped egg was yummy. My entree of Chilean Sea Bass had the best chantrelle mushroom cream sauce....delectable, not heavy. Two other members of party that the sauteed scallops and shrimp and raved about them. The other person in our party had the filet mignon was cooked perfectly to his liking. The grand marnier souffle was absolutely to die for! Service was excellent. Very pricey, however we would go back in a heartbeat!
I love Jeanne d'Arc and have been coming here for years. I love to bring guests and they are always surprised at this wonderful little jewel box hidden in the basement.
This time we came alone for a nice dinner while spending the week in The City. However, the menu changed -- which I knew from looking online. I always order the salmon and it wasn't on the online menu, but beef short ribs were so I thought okay. The night we dined short ribs were not on the menu and no salmon. I'm not a fan of rabbit or veal or most of the entrees they offered.
I finally decided on the filet mignon and am thankful the chef did cook it all the way through, no pink, as I'd asked. I hope they'll bring the salmon back.
Our waitress suggested I call the day I'm coming to check, but she obviously hasn't tried to get a reservation. Once you get one, you don't want to let it go.
This truly is a lovely place with charming paintings and are throughout.
Magical atmosphere, especially at Christmas time. The food and service were both excellent. The menu is prix fix and includes soup, choice of appetizer, main course and dessert. Both dinner & wine were reasonably priced. We had the lamb shank and lamb chops both were delicious. The chocolate mousse & their famous Grand Mariner Soufflé were divine. I’ll come back again!
A top noise level, for me, is NOT energetic, it is utterly deleting and debilitating.it is too bad you don't acknowledge that not all people appreciate ear-splitting nouse. It is awful and ruins a wonderful dining experience.
