What Insiders Are Saying
For your next special occasion/fancy night out dinner in SoHo, consider the French fine dining at Le Coucou.
Everything was great other than the lamb chop having to be sent back twice due to not being cooked medium (first time almost raw and secound time rare). Great spot though.
Top 5 in the city- Phenomenal
The best restaurant in NYC for us. The ambience at dinner with candlelight on each table and dimmed chandeliers is wonderful. Always interesting menu and outstanding service. Chocolate sorbet for desert after a large dinner is perfect.
Absolutely amazing experience!
Magnifique expérience au coucou! Tout était parfait
I love French cooking and they do it so well, I wish we could have gone again. Next time.
The space, an experience all on it own, has a lovely soft, elegant, romantic ambiance. The Sommelier was very gracious and our server, although pretentious, was attentive. We started with the Oyster with seaweed ice (minuscule), Quenelle de Brouchet "Route de Reims" (outstanding) and the lobster/scallop stuffed cabbage (boring), followed by the Tout le Lapin (skillfully cooked), Bouillabaisse (uninteresting) and last the chocolate mousse with coffee ice cream (decadent). Having dined in a majority of New York City's significant restaurant, my overall impression was that the encounter was irregular, not what I was expecting and not in line with the price point.
The food was really good but the service was not as good
This was my 2nd time at le Coucou and I was as disappointed by the food than the first time.
My wife had the potato soup which was more of a cream soup , too rich for this kind of soup and no flavor.
My quenelle ( pike) was sitting in a very sour champagne sauce , more fit for a salad than a pike.
Following I had a steak tartare cut by a knife , the pieces were so big that it was more like an uncook steak than a steak tartare, further more the seasoning was all around the plate and not mixed. If I want to prepare a meal myself , i will stay home next time .
Le Coucou is a "want to be" high end restaurant , too rich for real french cuisine and not living to its expectation . Very disappointing overall. Service is impeccable i must admit as well as very elegant place.
Great Sunday breakfast!
Bad value for money, noisy, waiters not really helpful, pretentious but not classy
Wonderful meal.. That said, they should consider comping drinks if you wait over 30 minutes past a reservation to be seated. It is really a basic courtesy.
Lovely meal! Upscale, the food was rich but delectable
Honestly mediocre food.
What an experience! Everything was flawless, from the service to the food to our table. It was a lovely lunch that we hope to do again soon.
My wife and I had a fabulous day-after Valentine’s Day lunch at this very fine restaurant. We especially recommend the fried veal’s head, the chicken with foie gras, and the quenelle in champagne sauce. The latter was so delicious that I ordered a second portion for my dessert!!!! We can’t wait to return for another excellent dining experience!!!!
Worthy of its Michelin star. Food, service and ambience impeccable!
Went on Valentine’s Day lunch. It was not a scene very calm with excellent service.Because it was full of twos the table was spacious. Food was very good,my wife had the quenelles and she said the seasoning was a notch up from a prior visit. My duck was certainly worth a return visit. Good selection of wines by the glass. The wine list is comprehensive but if you want older vintages you will pay a lot.Overall this is one of the few Manhattan restaurants which can match the better Paris restaurants in gracious service and anticipating your wants before you have asked. If only it was not so hard to get a dinner reservation before 10pm.
Took my girlfriend here for Valentine’s Day and we had a wonderful dinner. Menu is not cheap, but comparably speaking, and considering the quality of the food, it’s reasonable. Best part of the meal were all the fantastic sauces. And not for nothing, the fresh bread and Vermont Creamery butter was a lovely start to the meal.
4/5. My boyfriend and I went there for dinner and were impressed by the overall ambience. It was romantic and private, especially when we got a table at the corner. We had a foie gras terrine to share. It didn’t come with brioche as I expected, but it had a very fresh and creamy taste. For entree, I had grilled pigeon and he had Filet Mignon. The presentation of food was great but the flavor was not impressive. Our favorite part would be the dessert. We had Mille Feuille, which had crispy and delicate layers with pineapple cream! In all, we enjoyed the dinner there!
A gorgeous & comfortable room, that looks like a place you’d see in a movie. But our server was too cold & formal, absent for long stretches and did not seem to genuinely care about our enjoyment of the meal.
Sommelier was very friendly and helpful, but we did not like the white wine he recommended and the red wine was just OK. I asked to stay under $200 a bottle, but that is very hard to do on this extensive & expensive wine list. Both of his recommendations were in the mid-$200s range and were most definitely not worth the money.
Based on a prior visit and recent reviews, I expected most dishes to be excellent. With 6 people in our party, each ordering 3 courses, I tasted almost all of the 18 dishes that crossed our table. I did not think that any of the dishes I tasted was excellent, except for the lamb. The beef has a mushy consistency and lacked much flavor. It reminded me of the inferior filet mignon that some steakhouses serve on their Restaurant Week menu. The duck for 2 was served barely at room temperature, a little fattier than I like it and it tasted just OK. I order duck just about any time I see it on a menu and this version of duck Brest was slightly below average, in my experience. The bread & butter were excellent.
At these prices, I expected the food to be excellent across the Board. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed.
Great staff space and food
Super nice !
Amazing!!! Everything was perfect from the moment we walked in!,,
bday lunch with girls
the server were rude
seafood cooked not well
bar tender is super nice and settings are good
really beautiful restaurant. Great for special occasion. Our waiter was an absolute delight. Would prefer more comfortable seating - but that is personal.
Overall, would definitely visit for a third time.
Maitre d (blonde female with shoulder length hair) was horrible. She couldn’t find my coat for 10min and when she finally found it, she literally threw it at me.
Absolutely outstanding- ambience, service., food.
Anxious to return !!!
Classic lunch in NYC and a great value. Great service there is nothing like it downtown for sure. I had this classic purée to start and the duckling.
Both were amazing. Black bass was outstanding as well
Cheese plate and lemon tart for dessert. Great lunch!!!
The woman at the front has a little attitude. I guarantee she won’t last. The wait staff however was amazing.
There are equally compelling--and greater, more interesting--options available in NYC within the price range (and with similar acclaim). The service was perfunctory and not warm; when our server found out that the diners in our neighboring table came from a familiar part of the country, the level of attention was markedly different than what we received.
I thought they were trying too hard. The “bouillabaisse” tasted flat. Duck was too sweet. Steak was quite good. I just had heard it was so great so maybe was a little
I've been several times. It's always a perfect experience.
Food...great, really great. Service....okay, but inconsistent. Ambience......very good. Definitely worth the effort to get a reservation.g
Quite a small menu- French classics like tete de beau, Riz de veau, but also some dishes if you do not want these “ gourmandise” as they call it. The halibut was excellent as well as their version of a fish soup. Attentive staff, great interior. Great cocktails, high wine prices.
Always the best place to have a beautiful breakfast !
Hard to decide whatq was better - the food, service or ambience!
