Locanda Osteria & Bar
The server was MIA. The host was great, seated us next to the window as requested. The waitress never came to check on us after food was delivered to ask how things were. I had flagged her over and she looked at me, went into the kitchen and never checked on us. We flagged down the host to give us hot sauce. We had to ask the host to take care of our bill. Our waitress was disgraceful and I wouldn't recommend based on the quality of her service.
It was our first time and we thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance, cocktails, decor, service and especially the food. Our artichoke appetizers were delicious, although one of them was a tad too al dente. Not consistent, but very flavorful. The pasta dishes were delicious and perfectly balanced - not too rich (carbonara) with perfect pasta! The orchiette pasta dish was incredibly flavorful and also cooked to perfection. The only criticism was the music was a too loud for the first part of the dinner when we arrived and were looking over the menu and waiting for our cocktails. But it was then lowered and was more enjoyable, and then increased again before we left. It was too difficult to hear across the table when the music was too loud.
amazing! All the staff was knowledgeable about the food .. gave excellent recommendations. We had a great time here!
Our server was very cute, informative and knew her wines!
Great service, and delicious interesting brunch menu. Cocktails A++
Delicious and consistent. Always excellent service.
Fish dish was delivered inedible. Stinky. Didn’t charge for the fish but did for everything else. Won’t go back.
Food was delicious but it was so loud that it was hard to hear
We’ve been fans of Locanda since its first year of operations and we still love it.
Perfectly cooked pasta
Usually this place is fantastic. Tonight it was off on each and every dish. Service was rushed and then super slow. Will not be back anytime soon. Disappointing.
The veggies were the standouts! Squash with preserved lemon, sage and walnuts; turnips and beets with salsa verde and breadcrumbs; fried "Jewish" artichokes with mint. All were superb. The carbonara was ok - but the pasta was too al dente. Nebbiolo by the glass was excellent. Service was friendly and attentive. Overall, I thought it was an interesting meal, that provided lots of great ideas for our own home cooking.
This is the spot for drinks and snack of pizza Bianca . If the attic Hicks are on the menu then that is a plus . The pasta has been too al dented the past two visits . It use to be such a delicious restaurant despite warnings I went any way .. just awlful and the group sitting next to us were also a bit shocked . But the wine is good!
Really skilled and friendly staff, great service! We enjoyed the whole package.
I'm not a fan of "Italian" restaurants in America - none of them are good. I had the bavette steak, which was cooked very well and tasted great. I shared the rigatoni with a companion and, like most pasta dishes with a white sauce, if you don't eat it immediately, they begin to gel and this one was no different. The rigatoni itself was unremarkable and, perhaps, overcooked. Two companions thought the black rock fish was good and the other two companions shared another fish dish (which I can't remember what they had!) and thought it was OK. The broccoli or broccolini was superb - the best dish of the evening; well-seasoned, great taste, cooked perfectly. Service was inconsistent and the primary waitperson got a few orders wrong, heard them incorrectly, or once ordered, didn't provide them at all. We were seated near the rear - 5 of us at a make-shift table for 4 - it was tight, uncomfortable, and warm. The place is loud; way too loud to have a decent conversation. Yet another SF restaurant where you're supposed to have had a good time, but when you're finished, you're exhausted from trying to have a conversation above the din. Decent food, but nothing says I need to return any time soon.
Delicious Italian cuisine and always 1-2 vegetarian pastas on the menu. Delicious cocktails—sometimes we even just go for a drink!
All around a fantastic experience
We have love Locanda before, but they were not on their game this time. The pizza bianca and the pasta caccio/pepe both were insanely salty – and I like salt! The pasta was almost crunchy – and I like al dente! Not sure what the deal was but we won't be rushing back.
I’d been here previously for brunch and enjoyed it. However this time we ordered several recommended dishes and everything was unmemorable and a bit overpriced.
Been many times. Feel the food is not unique anymore & prices keep going up. Used to go for a few times a year. Not sure I will return.
Wonderful food, service and decor
Not a very good experiance, we all felt sick after the very over priced dinner
The food was very good but our server rushed us. We were worried that they needed our table, but when we finished there were several empty tables so there was not a reason to rush us the way he did. When the 4 of us walked out, we all agreed that our server left a lot to be desired. But the food was very good and we enjoyed it and would go back.
I would go back just for the cocktails and our server! The mixologist was amazing! I couldn't figure out what I wanted to order so they asked me for my flavor profile. The creation was so good I hope they put it on the menu.
The food was very good but what made our experience really great was our server. So patient in helping with the wine and menu!
One of our friends has Celiac and we were amazed how the kitchen was so accommodating.
Staff and ambience is good, however, the main course was too salty could not enjoy our date.
I’d been once before for brunch and knew the food was good. It’s a small but mighty restaurant that provides intimate casual dining experience with interesting menu items
Had lovely Labor Day brunch in the Mission.
The ginger soda had great flavor, kind of like lemonade.
The bacon was crunchy and not too salty which makes you want to eat a lot.
The salad with fresh pea pods and poach egg and potatoes was a winner.
Excellent as always.
Imaginative Italian inspired dishes and fabulous desserts
Small, but interesting menu. Pretty good. Peach and green bean salad was inventive and tasty but way over-dressed. Very good pasta. Good dinner with attentive service, but I wouldn’t make it a point to return.
The food is always excellent. We are from the east coast yet one of our sons lives in SF. Obviously SF is a foodie paradise. Locanda matches most if not all foodie palaces....plus the cocktails are well made and interesting. We visit this place and a couple of others whenever we visit.
Must try the Deep Fried Olives - you have too!
Great place, I would eat here everyday if I could.
I've been wanting to go to Locanda Osteria & Bar for a while now. We had reservations and were seated very quickly. The Ambiance was fun, and the service was amazing. Unfortunately, the food left a lot to be desired. The food felt flat, and didn't have any complex flavors or textures. The Tomato salad was a dish that focused on the quality of the ingredients, unfortunately the produce left a lot to be desired. We also ordered a number of pasta dishes. While all were cooked perfectly, they didn't have any complex flavors or textures. They were very basic/bland. I feel like Locanda Osteria & Bar has a lot of promise, however they need to work on their menu to really compete with other local Italian spots that deliver on an amazing Italian menu like Deflina and Flower and Water.
Outstanding food (again) and attentive, warm and extremely knowledgeable service from our server. Justin, I think.
Fun times sitting at the bar with Joe the bartender who served us excellent cocktails wine and dinner.
Excellent food, service and drinks. There are a number of options for food and drinks. The waiter was accommodating to special requests. Although there was noise it was not overwhelming. Still possible to have conversation
We always have an excellent time and the fried olives always start me to drooling!!!
The only good dishes were appetizers. Very good anchovies, chopped liver, and a salad. The pork was not too bad, really lousy rigatoni alla carbonara (overcooked, no flavors) , and fusilli integrale was also quite disappointing.
Staff doesn't know the deserts. What they claimed to be less sweet was extremely sweet (more than other deserts) and all deserts seemed to be based on the premise that the only good desert is something with more sugar than any other ingredients.
Even espresso was watery and tasted like from an instant coffee.
I have been here numerous fun and delicious times . As I was leaving my home my neighbor warned me the spot was going downhill and to try to get into Delfina . Well the artichoke
Is always good but the pasta was not eatable . The first order was so salty it was an obvious mistake so we tried again . This time it was so aldente that it was like chewing a piece of leather . We were embarrassed to be complainers So packed it for the homeless along Valencia Street . I do not have a t know what happened but a great place during restaurant week deteriorated to just so bad and such a disappointment .
Excellent service and exceptional food! A true treat!!! Go!
