What Insiders Are Saying
Danny Meyer’s Gramercy Park Roman Italian restaurant is better than we initially thought, especially for a date or an upscale brunch.
Best pasta in NYC, embrace the pushing the envelope with testarella, trippa and squid ink pasta. As all DM restaurants fantastic and accommodating service.
The food is reliably very good, quite authentic or in the Roman style. Dishes are made with top ingredients and executed well. The room is pleasant, open, and strikes just the right balance of comfortable and proper.
I finally made it here and it was a great experience. The waiter called me a pro for picking up the pigs head and using my hands to eat it!
Great food!
Everything was great, food , service and decor. We were here for brunch and the choices were many and different. Worth the time, go and enjoy.
Food was great and we were able to sit and talk without being rushed.
Exceptional service. Courteous and professional waitstaff.
Food was ok.
Bit of a disappointment. Portions incredibly small, as were the cocktails. Tried 2 pastries, one pasta item (which was shared and provided one bite each) and three breakfast entrees. The most substantial was the porcetta sandwich. Had to ask for water several times which was surprising because service is usually spot on.
Great place for conversation and excellent food.
This was my first time having breakfast here, and I could eat this particular breakfast every day--perfectly poached eggs with roasted vegetables--simply delicious!
I LOVE the ambiance!! Everything Union Square Hospitality does is stellar, very rarely disappointed in anything. And they truly succeeded at making this an authentic Italian trattoria. Service is superb!! Thank You, Maialino! WIll be back soon!
We made the reservation about 1 month in advance for our 3 year anniversary. They called and confirmed with us and then congratulated us in the occasion. We arrived about 5 mins early and were told to wait at the bar (there were no open seats and no standing room available). We waited a total of 45 minutes to just never be sat. At one point a seat opened up at the bar and I tried to sit, but the bartender told me I couldn't it was reserved (no one sat in it for 15 mins). We checked with the hostess about 4 times while waiting and they kept saying the tables had all paid but no one was getting up. At 855 (our res was at 815) we left and went to find food somewhere else. I was texted at 9pm saying to come check in my table would be ready in 15 mins (a full hour after our reservation).
To have the audacity to make customers who reserved in advance (and confirmed with 48 hours) wait this long was extremely unacceptable. We heard such positive reviews about here, but waiting over an hour to sit is the worst way to start a special occasion dinner. Luckily, we found a better restaurant down the street. I'll never give them my business again.
My favorite place to wake-up in the morning. I feel like a civilized person whenever I start my day there.
Excellent start to finish.
Unbelievable food, wine and cocktail program. Service exceeded expectations even for a USHG restaurant. Outstanding.
Services was too slow
One of the best restaurants in NYC. Have to have the pasta
Waiter made multiple mistakes with our order. He was nice about it, but the replacements actually took a while and I had said we need to leave by a certain time. It was my husband’s bday and my daughter had to leave them before we did a candle etc. we always love food and ambiance but was not the best of our many great experiences there
For many years it’s been my go-to place in NYC for consistently top-tier Roman comfort food.
Great wine list.
Never disappoints.
Attended a birthday dinner with 3 friends. We arrived at 5:20pm for a 5:30pm reservation. The dining room was not available so we had to find space at the wine bar. We stood there until our table was ready. Although the servers were polite, it took over a half hour for our first course to be served. and another long wait for our main course. The martinis were served in the smallest glasses I have ever seen. Another guest had Scotch on the rocks - filled with ice and the smallest amount of liquor. Very over priced and the wait was too long. The staff is very attentive and knowledgeable. Not sure we would return.
The timing of the service was off. The servers gave us our entree before we finished our appetizers. They were holding the plates in front of us for us to remove our appetizers to the side. I told the waiter and he apologized. However, I felt he should have given more concentration on his station as it was not that busy. Otherwise, the ambiance was nice. Excellent wine list. Food was good, and the desserts delicious.
All in all, I would recommend this restaurant.
Great place to have a breakfast meeting. Excellent food and a fairly quiet atmosphere.
Excellently prepared martinis, wonderful service, and an overall magical experience. The 2 of us started lunch with the prosciutto and mozzarella bufala. Absolutely delicious. We then shared a "tour" of 3 pastas. Perfect amount of food and memorably delicious. Our favorite was the oxtail mezzelune followed by the malfatti. Amazing flavors, prepared with precision. Again, the service was exceptional. We're definitely returning the next time we're back in NYC.
A great experience all around and the server Somm and bartenders were great.
Did not like the wines bye the glass
The table was a bit cramped and many people passing by kept on bumping to our chairs. Service was also a bit disappointing - our waiter threw out plates and tried to take them away when some of us were still eating. Food was ok - nothing special nor terrible. Likely won’t be returning.
Everything was so great! Customer service and food all was incredible!
Maialino never disappoints.
Over the years we have loved every meal, every experience here. Food is always top quality and delicious. The approach is unfussy but full of flavor. I am obsessed with their Malfatti and have that pasta dish almost every time we are there. This time my husband tried their cream sauce black truffle rigatoni and that was unbelievable. We seem to go back for our favorites here because they are always SO good. The octopus appetizer, the radicchio salad, the brussels sprouts side and the mushroom side. All amazing, perfectly prepared and satisfying dishes. Our server this was particularly charming and lovely. It was a fantastic night.
Excellent experience in every way—exceptional wine list and sommelier Love the no tipping!
From the minute we arrived at Maialino, my sister and I felt immediately welcomed by the staff. Both beautiful young women, one who graciously took our coats and the other who returned them to us, were genuinely charming and sweet. They made us feel like we were in the presence of old friends yet remained professional and efficient all at the same time. Our server who I can't quite recall his name, (good looking blonde gentleman, so I should remember) was absolutely wonderful. He was attentive and personable and made sure my sister and I were having a great time. His suggestions were on point and he helped us pick out two delicious Italian amaros I hadn't tried before. The service really stood out and made the night memorable. The food was great and you have to try all their pastas! Hard to pick a favorite. We will definitely be back when visiting New York again. Thanks to the whole team!
Excellent - really good food - only downside was some truffle shavings on pasta cost $30. We didn’t request it, they just served it to us!
Wedding anniversary. Complementary drinks. Excellent service.
Exquisite food. Extraordinary service. Elegant. Delicious . Perfection.
It’s my neighborhood favorite, I love the food but I come for the staff too who treat me like family.
Food was ordinary. Menu does not have many main course options. Ratings suggest food is much better than we experienced. Dissapointing.
Maialino always delivers a top quality meal with attentive service. We had brunch for our first wedding anniversary here and they couldn’t have been nicer bringing out special dessert and some takeaway cookies to end our meal.
Maialino is to die for! The service was so friendly & attentive & made my birthday feel so special.
The food wasn’t that good. We all ended up leaving half if not most if our food on our plates
Great vibes and great food
It was my birthday. The restaurant has been in my list of places to try for years & finally made it. (I live in Boston & used to live in Hong Kong.). It was a fabulous meal - octopus salad followed with the cavatelli with pork ragu. The waiter suggested an Umbrian red to go with it which was a great match. My husband had the suckling pig which was delicious. Loved the restaurant!
What a wonderful place to enjoy dinner with friends! Food was great as always. Service was excellent. Just an amazing group of people.
