The sat us at a high top in the corner and it must be an open door around the walk way area. So I was cold the entire time. I didn’t want to ruin my date first time there by complaining. But I was uncomfortable the entire time. The food is always good . Bone in rib eye is what I always order. Service was not as great this visit. Server gave me a box to package my own leftovers. I’m use to them boxing it for you! Also I couldn’t help to see she boxed the table next to me leftovers. My friend wasn’t impressed with the service either. The Live musicians were both great! That was the second best part after receiving my steak
We were a party of 4 on a Saturday night. The only time we saw our server was when we placed our drinks and food which was so disappointing. We ordered several items only for him to come back and say they’re out. For example, heirloom salad was not available, 30 oz of tomahawk not available but the 40 oz is… etc. My fiancé ordered a medium ribeye and it was well done lol. Brussel sprouts were super salty with no flavor. The mushroom was delicious as well as the bone marrow. The most disappointing experience is our server never checked in on us lol. We had to flag someone else for the well done steak. As the night went on, it just seemed like a joke to me. Not worth it period. Used to love this place, now I don’t see the point to venture out to DC when I can get the same level of service near Tyson’s.
My date burned her hand on the pan that was brought out with brussel sprouts. It was not sizzling so it was not obvious that it was hot. And the server didn't mention that it was hot. I wish they would have said something about this they could have at least offered a complimentary dessert or something.
Birthday dinner was awesome, service was awesome, and Emily was a awesome server!!! I always have great service when I come!
The service and food was excellent!
Jared, the bartender didn’t provide water until asked, 20 minutes into sitting. Failed to check on food once delivered. Ordered a medium rare bone in filet, it came medium well. After shining his flashlight on it, once I flagged him down, he confirmed it was over cooked. By that time, we had our meals for 10-15 minutes so I ended up eating it as is.
I would definitely come back again ! Service was outstanding ; food was delicious.
Everything was great
Our family ate here for New Year's Eve 2021 on our trip to D.C. We thoroughly enjoyed the food the atmosphere and the service. The Wagyu steak was definitely worth the money. The lobster mac n cheese and garlic mashed potatoes were great along with the Bacon and sau'teed shrimp appetizers. For desert definitely must try the warm butter cake. Wish we had a Mastro's closer to home. We will definitely go back!!
Great service from our server Tara. Excellent live music !
My husband and self treated my brother to dinner for his last night in town. He really enjoyed the pork chops. Hostess annette was very pleasant and accommodating
The Maestro standard was not met at all, let’s start with the food. The food was brought out warm not hot….mind you we had steak. Room temp steak is horrific yet they choose to serve it that way on a cold plate. The music was the level of a dance club which I don’t understand as it was conversational tone once I walked in…change of DJ, manager I don’t know but it got club 54 level quickly. While my waitress was knowledgeable, swift, and accurate but extremely pushy….not a good trait. The name needs to change or management either way I’m not returning.
The food was absolutely delicious. Every course was decadent. The service was outstanding. We had a reservation and the restaurant called to confirm 3 hours before as well as sending an automated text to let us know that our table was ready. The mood was very date night and elegant. The dress code is very strict and well appreciated for the atmosphere. We can’t wait to come back.
Terrible experience. Will never return. Charged for food we ordered though never received and was rushed through dinner. For $440 I expect much, much more.
I decided to take my mother out just to celebrate her! Mastro's was the first restaurant I thought of. Food is always great, just like the service. We also decided to sit near the bar, for the first time, just to hear the great live singing from the pianist. Mastro's was a 5-star all the way around.
Our server was AMAZING! several drinks were sent back because they we not made well and they are overpriced. The steak and lamb chops were not prepared the way we requested them. The food in general was overpriced for what we got. You have to pay and extra $5 for bread. I won’t be back.
Great place to celebrate anniversary or big life events
The food is terrible, and it took so long for someone to serve us. Bad experience.
The food was amazing but the service was terrible. It was my husband’s birthday, he loved the food and the key lime margarita. But The waiter wasn’t friendly at all. Everything was rush rush with him. It was as if we bothered him by sitting in his section.
Amazing food, absolutely love the Sea Bass! Will definitely visit again.
We’ve been to many of the Mastro’s locations but DC was by far one of the worst fine dining experiences ever. In a empty
Restaurant we were seated next to the bathroom with a waiter who was pushing us to order at every turn. We felt rushed by a waiter who seemed to come at us with an attitude from the start. He could not have been more unfriendly and rude. I will take my $500 somewhere else from now on. Not worth the money anymore.
First time here was two yrs ago. Presentation, quality and service was unmatched. This time we decided to have our Christmas dinner here and we were highly dissatisfied. Service was ok, music was loud, food was flavorful but wasn't warm and we were seated in the basement that was barely lit. Our experience this time around was less than desirable.
We have dined in upscale steakhouses and restaurants in DC and Baltimore for nearly fifty years and this is the first review I have felt compelled to write. A 22 oz bone-in ribeye ($74) was extremely thin and overcooked. I would have expected a better cut at a family steakhouse. An 8 oz filet was overcooked. Bread was brought to the table without request but appeared as a charge on the bill. Likewise an extra desert that was not ordered. A salad ordered to be divided in two arrived as one. When brought to the waiter's attention, he picked up a plate from a vacant adjoining table and placed on our table for us to divide the salad. We sent the salad to the kitchen and it was returned in three portions rather than two. We were there for Christmas dinner with an invited guest and decided to not a make a fuss.
But, we will never return.
We went here for our anniversary. The food was amazing, slightly over salted the toppings but everything else was amazing.
Visiting DC from Connecticut so chose Mastro’s via website… it exceeds my expectation. Everything was exactly as described on their website…. Food, service, ambiance. It was also us a very nice area, close to the Hotel we were staying. Be prepared to spend some money but it is well worth the time the dimmed lighting created this calming space the was so relaxing for the soul. I would highly recommend Mastro’s.
The Hostess was very rude. She spent 10 minutes talking to the person before us about maintaining her natural hair. She insisted that sneakers were apart of the dress code but on 7/9/21 we could not sit in the dining area beachside my husband had on sneakers. On this date she stated my distressed jeans were an issue but on 12/17/21 there were several people with distressed clothing and sneakers on sitting in the main dining area. I am a request client of this establishment and I was shocked at the misinformation and rude behavior of the hostess.
Had a great time for my wife's birthday
Holiday dinner. Make big deal on website about dress code yet they seated guys next to us wearing a cammo tshirt and tennis shoes. Service was very limited, meaning we didn’t get much service. Took long time to even get acknowledged and a menu. Told the waiter we were feeling neglected but it didn’t do much to encourage him to check on us even though we ordered $155 bottle of wine. And spent $550 on dinner for 3 before tip. Really disappointing experience. Unlikely we will return.
Tight space- waitstaff not wearing masks. Service was slow. Not quick to fill waters, check in, etc…
Me and my wife enjoyed this steakhouse. Excellent!
The food here has never disappointed, but the pricing of the food - such as $15 for a spoonful of butter - is absurd. Nonetheless, the meal was fantastic.
The food and service was impeccable. My only complaint was that I received a phone call from the restaurant to confirm the reservation and was advised of their strict dress code but upon arrival it appears they don't enforce it. I saw multiple women that were inappropriately dressed showing everything under the sun! Men had on athletic attire. One gentleman had on an entire Champion sweatsuit. Other than the none enforcement of the dress code everything was outstanding!!
My boyfriend and I were in Washington DC for a weekend getaway and all the internet searches recommended Maestros. As one of the top steakhouses in DC, we were excited for our reservations. To us, dinner is more than good, it’s an experience, unfortunately we were underwhelmed with our dinner experience. We were seated in between two tables and have maybe 1 foot between our tables. Nothing about that was intimate or enjoyable. The music was loud so it was hard to have a conversation. The wait staff was busy and made no attempt to make a connection with us. They took or our, gave us our food and that was it. The food was good but my steak was very undercooked so I had to send it back. We both got filets, then shared the Mac and cheese and Brussels sprouts. Both sides were amazing and very big portions. The steaks were good but not the best we have had. The bread service was delish however they took it away once our meal came. Overall, it was an ok time. We won’t be going back as it wasn’t the atmosphere we were hoping for.
Vibrant bar scene with music and hi top seating. Great restaurant for special occasion dining. Reservations highly recommended.
I made a reservation for a birthday celebration roughly a month in advance for 8 people . Upon arrival to the restaurant at 7:30 pm, we were told our entire party (missing 1 guest) had to be present in order for us to be seated. We politely said we understood, and waited until the last member of our party arrived. During our wait, several things we noticed took place. The dress code was absolutely not enforced although it was made very clear to me on the phone that afternoon. There were customers who were not turned away or spoken to regarding their attire while wearing their sweatshirts and sweatpants, crocs and having a very loud odor of Marijuana. They were happily seated on the first floor. At about 8pm, our party of 8 guests were walked downstairs to a table next to the bathrooms. The table was set for 7 guests and the table cloth was permanently stained. There weren't even enough chairs for our party to physically sit down together. After about 5 mins, someone brought over a chair and half of a place setting. Upon the service of water by the Server, Edwin, we discovered there were not enough water glasses on the table for everyone. Edwin had to walk away to get another water glass and then again to get additional water. It took another 5 mins. In my experience for a server that has a larger party, there requires a bit of preparedness that was very clearly lacking in this situation. Once Edwin got water to everyone seated at the table, he took our drink orders. It took more than 45 mins for us to begin to get our drink orders and this is ONLY after asking about the drinks 30 mins into the wait. The first half (4 drinks) came out in about 45 mins, and the remaining half came staggered at an additional 10 mins per 2 drinks a piece. In total, it took our table more than an hour to get our drink orders. There was quite the lapse in time between getting appetizers and entrees and there were no attempts to refresh drinks. More could be said, but not enough space.
My husband came to your restaurant on July 9, 2021 . We had a reservation but could not sit in the dining area because my husband had on sneakers. Well last night at least 5 men were sitting in the dining room with us with sneakers. I was puzzled and shocked. I will be writing to the corporate office.
Went there for my daughters 21st birthday. Was expecting way more. Steaks were good- sides were large enough to share but wasn’t what we expected taste wise. I knew this restaurant is a la carte however… our waitress introduced 2 steak special options for that night. I chose to get the special with crab meat on top. I figured as a special it would be more but not $55 added to the $87 steak. I’m all for spending money I just don’t think the word “special “ should’ve been said. I expected to pay top dollar which I did (it’s my daughters 21st) also I included in my reservation that it’s her 21st- one of the people that were with us at dinner had to remind the waitress- she in return gave my daughter a desert menu to order…. Nothing special - no thought out into it. Overall glad that I took her out- I’ve had way better service and dinner. $1588 total for 7 people and received 2 star service. Sometimes that what happens when gratuity is included - I’m a huge tipper I would have paid more than the $232 gratuity that was included in my bill had we received better service.
Food was great, it was my friend’s 40th birthday and we wanted to make him feel special. They didn’t really do anything but write happy bday on the dessert plate. No candles, no complimentary dessert for the birthday boy, no bread service. We spent over $2000 for the 7 of us. I’ve been to Mastro’s before, and I feel like the service is going down.
Unfortunately, our experience was terrible. We had reservation for 6:15 and did not get seated until 7:30. They did give us a small glass of champagne but that really did not make up for the delay, especially since most of us don't drink. In addition, we did not receive our food until 8:25pm. We spent over $700 and received terrible service!
