Enjoy Southern comfort food with a twist in a relaxing, casual setting at Melba's. Owner Melba Wilson opened its doors for locals and travelers alike to have a pleasant dining experience with great service. Fried catfish strips, barbecue short rib sliders and spring rolls filled with black-eyed peas and collard greens make delicious appetizers before feasting on the main course. Guests can choose from entrées like Melba's popular Southern fried chicken with eggnog waffles, which was a winner on Throwdown! with Bobby Flay, as well as pan-seared sea bass and the barbecue turkey meatloaf. This restaurant also serves hamburgers, lighter fare and sides such as candied yams.
Melba's offers Saturday and Sunday brunch and caters business luncheons, receptions and more. Reservations are welcome, and takeout is available for guests.
My friend like the oxtails. I had the meatloaf, not too appetizing. Mac and cheese dry and not seasoned. Collards greens were ok, better than the rest. The uptown was waterdown. Love the art on the wall and 90s RnB music.
Great food at reasonable prices. Great ambiance. Employees were friendly, courteous and professional.
All u can say is that Melbas was outstanding. We got there about a half hour early and were able to be seated. Nice crowd but not noisy but comfortable. Appetizers were amazing and ofcoure the entry and the dessert. I dont drink but my friends said the drinks were great. We all are planning to go back. This restaurant was recommended by a coworker who has visited there many occassions.
This was my first visit at Melba’s this past Mother’s Day and I must say that it was great!!! From the food to the music selection, everything was on point!!! Granted it was Mother’s Day and our food took a little long but I will definitely be back!!!! All I have to say is, “those eggnog waffles though!!!!! Thank you for a wonderful Mother’s Day!!!! See you soon!!!!
Melba’s is the best!
The atmosphere, the food, the people - always positive and good. I strongly recommend Melba’s to everyone.
The service was great, but the food was not great! The collard greens were extremely salty to the point I couldn’t eat them. The Yams tasted as if they came from a can.
The dining experience was shocking seeing as though I’d eaten at the restaurant a year ago and wanted to return.
Sadly I will not come back!
Good to see that she's still in business. Continued success my Sister
The food is excellent. The ambience is lovely and the service is great. Every time I am in Harlem I must get dinner at Melba’s
Thoroughly happy with my chicken, mac & cheese and greens meal!
Best catfish in New York and the vibes are off the charts.
We came to Melba's to celebrate my Mother's 76th birthday. I made reservations and we were seated promptly. Our waitress Alicia was fantastic! I've been here several times and the food is always delicious. The Manager, Nicholas, is always helpful. My Mom enjoyed her night out and we were able to listen to the live band. It was a great time!
Unprecedented service. Everything was perfect literally.
I would recommend Melba's to any and everyone. The server was attentive, consistent, sweet, and professional. The food was amazing to say the least. You guys are the absolute best. I am a loss of words. Thank you guys for everything!!!!!
We arrived at 12pm, but had a reservation for 12:15. A line was already forming. Brunch was our objective. We were promptly seated. I noticed our table was different than the others. It was slatted vs a flat table top. It seemed like an afterthought. Also, our chairs were not cushioned like the others. Again - possibly an oversight. Neither were overtly uncomfortable - but noticeable.
We ordered cinnamon French toast, southern fried chicken scrambled egg and eggnog waffles with fried chicken with gravy on the side. I don’t like soggy fried chicken. I prefer to dip at my leisure.
Drinks were strong. I mean very strong. This place wants you to turn up. lol
Everything was great! Would I go back - yes!
We had a great Birthday dinner and the food was outstanding, especially the fried catfish. The service was fast and the food was great, even though they were crowded. A wonderful evening and we will definitely visit again soon.
Food was great..noisy but other then that a great place to eat..highly recommended!!
I was truly disappointed. I ordered what was supposed to be their signature dish - chicken and waffles.
I ordered the leg. The chicken leg was the tiniest leg I have ever seen and it was tasteless and the waffle was doughy. The server quickly took our order. My beverage was orange juice and peppermint tea. They never came. Finally, half way through the meal I got her attention about the beverages. She brought them without acknowledging that she had forgotten them. My friend ordered the salmon omelette. She stated that she couldn't taste any salmon and queried if there was any salmon in the omelette. My other friend ordered catfish and pancakes. Nothing to write home about. We all left disappointed. Maybe the cook was having a bad day. I would give it a second try to see if this was an isolated experience.
Melba's NEVER disappoints! The service is only outdone by the delicious food. They are warm, friendly and incredibly accomodating. The artwork is absolutely stunning! My daughter's 21st birthday celebration was perfect in every way! Thank you so much for a beautiful experience. We will never forget it!
The food was phenomenal. The service was challenging, but it wouldn’t stop me from going back. Great soundtrack in the background
The food was excellent!! I had the oxtails, greens and macaroni. I did wait a while for my food but you can't beat hot food and great customer service..I wish I could give this place 10 stars✨
The Sweet Potato Pancakes were among the best I've ever had! I also enjoyed the ambience, buoyed by the bright paintings on the wall. Thanks to the host for seating me before my companion, stuck on a train, arrived. I'd give more stars but our waiter wasn't on point - not bad, just not focused on the job at hand. Nevertheless, I'll definitely go back.
Food varies between average and subpar. Chicken was very standard fare, waffles were tasty but not spectacular. Bacon was inedible, skin was left on and it was extremely salty. Coffee tasted like instant. Drinks were watered down. Server was helpful and friendly.
Melba's is my go to spot for Southern comfort food. I have yet to taste anything comparable to their mac & cheese, potato salad and fried chicken. I am instantly transported back to my grandmother's kitchen whenever I dine here. The drinks are also made perfectly by their resident bartender Champion. I recommend their specialty cocktails especially the white wine sangria and ciroc lemonade. The service is exceptional. The waiters and waitresses are all patient, warm and inviting. I always feel at home here.
The food was excellent we went to celebrate my aunt's 80th birthday and she is very picky. The food, service and atmosphere was very good and inviting. I will definitely go back with my family and friends.
Melba's is my go to favorite for southern comfort food. Dining with two friends, our catfish, mac and cheese and spinach was excellent. Especially my sweet potato pie! YUMMY!
Service was not good at all! Waited 40 minutes for an omelet and the restaurant was not very busy at this time. No bread/biscuits to fortify your guests until the food came? When the omelet arrived it was not the correct order. Credit given to the waiter to try to remedy the order by bringing out a new omelette. Waited 10 minutes to get a new omelette and parts of it were undercooked! Waiter apologized again and gave me a slice of sweet potato pie? Why? It was so sweet and tasted processed. Never again!
This was my first time at Melba's. It was amazing! The service was on point, the food was excellent, the decor/ambiance was perfect. I couldn't have asked for a better dining experience. Kudos to Melba's!
Superb comfort food; delicious flavors, fun ambiance. This was a great date. During the meal, my date commented, "if they offer takeout, it would be tempting to have this frequently." I look forward to going back.
I had a wonderful birthday dinner. We were seated promptly at our reservation time. The service was great and the food was plentiful and tasty. I will definitely be returning.
I’m never disappointed when I go to Melba’s. The food is so flavorful and leaves you wanting more even though you are very full! Lol. The portions are just right and the service is friendly. It’s a wonderful ambience and is great place for any celebration!
My waitress Olay, was excellent. The food was good, though it came rather quickly. I like the feeling of knowing my food is cooked upon order. The noise level at the bar was excessive, causing dinning patrons some discomfort. I will be returning soon to try some other dishes.
Service was excellent, The staff was complete professional and friendly. Food was delicious and reasonable.
Excellent food and service. Tuesday night music is very good!
The food was GREAT!! We all tasted each other’s entrees which included sea bass, salmon, and chicken and waffles. The garlic-infused collard greens were scrumptious, but the showstopper was the spring rolls that consisted of collard greens and black eyed peas amongst other things—simply AMAZING!! I had never had anything quite like them and they were GOOD, our compliments to the chef 👌🏾 and thank you to my friends, and Harlem, NY, residents, Sharnee and her sister Sharron ❤️ Melba’s is very highly recommended by us... great ambiance as well.
Love Melba's. Had not been in a minute and was happy to stop by on Sunday. Make a reservation. It gets crowded. Loved the food and the atmosphere. And I also had family visiting from out of town and they truly enjoyed as well. Melba (the owner) happened to be there when we were there and she is always so pleasant. One of my fave spots in Harlem.
The food is always great and staff is extremely helpful and attentive.
We LOVED Melba's. You definitely have to make a reservation as the restaurant is small and intimate. The GM was VERY accommodating when we had to make a last minute addition to our table. I would HIGHLY recommend. The drinks were strong, service SUPERB, and food AMAZING
We were seated fairly quickly after we arrived. Our waitress very helpful to our group in anwsering questions about menu items. I had the smothered chicken and eggnog waffels and a mango mimosa. Everything was delicious and we had a great time there.
Great food in a nice setting and s really comfort food
