Lovely venue was well looked after... the brie and truffles and the Kingfish were to die for, the service was a bit intrusive to the dining experience. Clearing of plates when not completed felt like we were in a rush which we weren't. The waiter whilst lovely made a point of asking many times whether we wanted more dishes when we really didn't need anymore than we ordered.
Overall ambience and experience was very good though having said this.
My husband and I came here with high hopes of a beautiful evening with delicious food. We left feeling disappointed.
We ordered oysters to start which came reasonably quickly. They were creamy and delicious. The white balsamic gave the perfect balance to their sweetness. Our next order was the scallops. The wait between the two starters was around 10 minutes so it was lucky we were actually sharing the dishes. When the waitress placed the scallops on our table she did not say anything but placed them down quite roughly then turned away. She quickly came back and took our order away from the table saying they weren't ours. They looked so lovely and they were taken just as we were about to start. She did bring them back after a minute or so, but by this stage, they were cold and had lost the crispness on the searing causing them to be possibly chewier than had we got them fresh and not had them taken from us. This really ruined the night and it went down from here.
For mains we ordered the 7 grade aged Wagyu along with the beans as a side. The wait was quite considerable but we were enjoying watching the chefs work. When our mains arrived, we were nothing short of disbelief. Although the steak appeared to be cooked to a perfect medium rare, it had no marbling, was extremely chewy and cold. The best part about our main course was the beans. That is quite poor considering a steak is $70. I for one doubt the grade of the Wagyu and wonder if the wait staff actually got the orders out as they were cooked, how much better the food may have actually been.
Long waits, average food and some less than able waitstaff make this a not to return restaurant for us.
Mercado was such an amazing restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious and the wine was also amazing! Our waiter, Mic, was so friendly and really helpful when we were deciding what to eat! Would definitely recommend !
The food and service was excellent , looking forward to coming back.
Early dining for us so was quiet to begin with . Food was excellent the service was also very good. We had the set menu and the portion sizes were larger than what we were used to, so would be good if you have males with big appetites in the group. Would definitely come back.
Reunion dinner at Mercado and it didn't disappoint.
Food choices were excellent and sharing concept works well for a group.
Waiting staff very friendly and efficient .
Was ok. Nice room. Food was good but really hard to know how much to order. We over ordered big time
Perfect steak and great sides to compliment. Loved that they make you lock the mobile phone away so everyone can just chat and focus on each other. Wait was shorter than expected but would be better if we can book, maybe ask for a deposit to avoid cancellations? Service could be a bit more attentive and friendlier. Quite noisy where there are big groups but otherwise good for value and cosy hideout in this part of the city.
Great romantic spot, as well as a great vibe. Food was excellent and staff were beyond reproach.
I strongly recommend giving them a try as you will not be disappointed
Food was amazing. But wait staff was very inattentive. Drinks left empty for long periods, failed to follow up with wine suggestions. Staff was very focused on kitchen and getting food out quickly (which is great) but gave very little attention to making sure we always had what we needed.
All great but having a surcharge for credit cards is backwards.
Fabulous food, with a good range of tasty and innovative shared plates. Attentive and friendly staff - they asked us if we were going to the Angle Place theatre for a show and we said yes, and they ensured that food and service would be completed in time. And it was!
On our first visit to Mercado, our party of 6 had difficulty choosing from the menu as everything sounded delicious. Our choices of spanner crab, porchetta, with several side dishes did not disappoint. We will be back to try more of their interesting menu. Being concert goers that evening, we had time constraints for our meal, but the service was prompt and timely. Good food, pleasant ambience and excellent service - a great experience which warrants a return visit from us.
Food was good, service was slow and inattentive. I expect we wouldn't have wait as long as we did to get our mains, then have it all arrive at once and go cold. I thought the idea of tapas was to bring out small dishes on a regular basis.
A very pleasant dinner albeit a bit rushed because we were going to a 7.00pm concert. Will come back for a more relaxing dinner. Thank you
Food was more of middle eastern influence rather Spanish. Great friendly and attentive service, nice atmosphere and nice food.
Turkish style Pumpkin ravioli was very elastic instead of traditional Italian ravioli. I wasn’t fun of it.
Delicious, high quality and great atmosphere. Looking forward to my next visit.
We went to Mercado for a business lunch. From the great service, delicious food menu (the pumpkin ravioli!!!) and the beautiful wine list, Mercado was a fantastic choice.
We went to Mercado to celebrate our 11th wedding anniversary. We were very impressed with the food. The flavours were amazing and most of the dishes just melted in our mouth. We would highly recommend Mercado to our friends and family.
Nice venue, slightly noisy, great prawns and the best chicken I’ve ever eaten, decent wine list and reasonable service.
The food and service was amazing . We chose the set menu for $65 and were impressed with the variety, flavours and presentation. The chef's selection from the grill was chicken and was so...so...succulent. But as we had enjoyed all the dishes in the lead up to it, we were just way too full to consume more than a small portion. And on top of that there was a delectable dessert! Our waiter helped us choose a lovely Spanish wine and the evening was a happy and memorable one. Thanks Mercado.
Food was a little too smoky for me
But service was great atmosphere was good
Good food that’s well priced.
This is an absolutely amazing experience. The service was flawless, and the food was very good, especially the grilled prawn, which was fresh and mildly spicy, I absolutely loved. Didn’t get the chance to try some amazing Spanish wine though.
The food was beautiful and a great selection of wines to accompany the meal. Ambience was perfect and not too noisy.
We had such an amazing night out at Mercado! The service was amazing, the food was delicious and we would definitely come back again! Have already raved about our night to family and friends! Can't remember the name of the girl who took care of us, but she had silver hooped earrings on and she was amazing! Thankyou thankyou!
Our waitress was fabulous. She was fun and smart and super dooper attentive. My friend was celebrating her birthday with me, there was just the two of us for lunch and this beautiful lady organised a candle on petite fours and started singing when of course I took over. delightful. couldn't recommend more highly. and the food was spectacular.
Fabulous lunch. The waiter was respectful and knowledgeable, and took good care of us. Food was outstanding... Not your typical tapas!!
Our first visit to Mercado whilst visiting Melbourne from America. Brilliant food. Fantastic prix fixe tasting menu and great service. We would definitely return.
Well, this was my first (wife's second) trip to Sydney and we couldn't have picked a better spot for an informal meal. The Ortiz anchovy tapa was the perfect foil for our cocktails. Other tasty bites: Foie Gras Parfait w/grilled sourdough and the Roasted Prawns w/Fennel Butter.
Delicious, well thought out and interesting food in a lovely spot in Sydney. Highly recommended
Great staff - mix of efficiency friendliness and helpfulness at a busy time. Food as always delicious and wonderful wine list.
Was extremely happy with food, service and vibe at the restaurant. Could not fault it. Loved my experience
We dined at Mercado for our anniversary. The service was impeccable and our waiter was lovely. Our starters were beautiful (pork empanadas and flatbread with smoked hummus) The chorizo main was delicious and the tomato salad was lovely. We weren't a huge fan of the chicken dish. We didn't enjoy the soft texture of it but that was just a personal preferences. All up it was a lovely meal and we enjoyed our night.
Even though we booked it got busy so quickly, but it was a nice relaxed Sat night crowd and despite this it wasn't particularly noisy, my friends and I could chat away without raising our voices. Despite it being busy we were always looked after and served our food very quickly. We went for two mains (lamb, prawns) and a few sides (roasted cauliflower was lovely) – they were all really nice and flavourful, very moorish. I really appreciate restaurants that put the same amount of "heart & soul" into their sides as well as mains. Also order desserts (the ginger & lemon pudding was amazing).
Restaurant is very noisy. Food is very hit and miss.
Excellent choice of tapas and wines. But no beer on tap when we visited. Highly recommended for anyone yearning for Iberian themed food in the city.
Amazing food and service! We will definitely be back. Great for gluten free and vegetarian also.
It was our first dining experience at your establishment.
We would definitely come again and certainly recommend it to others
The chicken dish needs to go back to the one they made two months ago, a part from that this is a good place for share plates/tapas
