I had a wonderful first date experience. The staff was very patient while we took our time getting acquainted before perusing the menus. After several glasses of wine we ordered the NW cheese plate and the fig and glacier blue tart. Both were excellent and added to our shared enjoyment of the evening. We ended up a very leisurely 5 1/2 hours lost in conversation, and the staff displayed the perfect amount of attention without disruption.
Brought a friend, who just relocated to Seattle. It was the perfect place for a culinary experience to match her life-changing move!
Birthday for family member
A perfect early Friday night dinner of a wonderful Thali that makes Poppy’s cuisine unique. This a glass of wine, the dessert sampler, and a genuinely thoughtful server is why Poppy is so special.
The Valentine’s day thali was delicious! I don’t have the menu at hand, but I can say that the oysters, shortrib, and eggplant patisse dishes were terrific. A little too much effort and emphasis on dessert probably bumped the price too much, but value was there in the food, atmosphere, and service.
We went on Valentine's Day, so the usual Thali dinners were not available. However, as always, the food was delightful. The nettle ravioli starter and chickpea cakes were full of wonderful flavors and treasures. The dessert thali for two was amazing - each small bite was delicious!
Poppy is one of our favorite restaurants. Consistently excellent service, unexpected and delicious flavors, imaginative take on the thali tradition with Pacific Northwest ingredients. The staff is always very well-informed and accommodating.
Thali Tuesday was great! Food was delicious and perfect portion size for a satisfying dinner for two plus dessert! Add a creative cocktail list and we were a couple of happy campers!
My wife and I love Poppy!!
Its like an edible art gallery, creative fun menu and friendly staff. Our favorite Seattle restaurant!
Yes, Poppy was a great place to eat! We enjoyed all the dishes we ordered, and even got a chance to taste several Mocktails for free. The waiter and waitress were attentive and very helpful in informing us about ingredients in many of the things we ordered. It was a week night, so not super busy--hence, not noisy. It was a very satisfactory dining experience, as well as quite fun!
Read about the Thali special dinner on Tuesday evenings ($35 for dinner for two) and made a quick reservation. We've been to Poppy once before and the food was wonderful. The main course in the thali plate was super succulent chicken (paneer was the other option) surrounded by 9 tasty little side dishes and yay! naan of course. We went for the eggplant fries--the only way I'll eat eggplant! But next time we'll go with another couple so we can get the fries and a dessert to share among four. Super nice, kind, attentive service. It seemed appropriate to add another 20% tip, since the meal and service seems to be worth more than the built-in service fee. I hope this goes on for a while because we'll want to do it again.
Went for the 10 piece Tali for 2 on Tuesday
Got the chicken tali, very moist and flavorful. The side accommodates were all very good.
Apple sage cake with bourbon ice cream
The portions were more than enough for 2
Highly recommend and for $35 a great price
Thali Tuesday was an amazing introduction to Poppy. I can't wait to come back and try their other offerings!
Superb. The food and the service were both very good. Highly recommend for a healthy and delicious meal.
LOVE the food and the service was outstanding and so friendly. Best Capital Hill food!
Poppy is such a fun place to take visitors and friends - great atmosphere, terrific drinks and outstanding food.
Food was very tasty. Lots of gluten free and veggie options. Service was knowledgeable.
Poppy is a unique place with a fantastic way to taste many flavors. Gluten-free friendly.
I decided to try this restaurant after seeing the chef on Top Chef, unfortunately I was not particularly pleased with the food. The service was excellent though!
Food was incredible! The chicken thali and duck entree were both outstanding and cooked perfectly. The cocktails were smooth. The service was a bit slow, but the food made up for it. Highly recommend!
We are very sad to give this restaurant a poor review because this restaurant offers some great cuisine: we've eaten here before (six months ago) and food was great and the service was much better. This time we actually left because the service was rude (we cancelled our order). The management needs reconsider leaving the running of this restaurant to young and inexperienced staff. Moreover, it made no sense that our server was serving two sides of the large dining room: taking orders on our side and bussing the other side? Most of all, we were dismayed that our server had an unprofessional and disdainful attitude. It seemed that the other servers looked unhappy too. With so many other excellent restaurant choices in Seattle, why spend our money here? We won't return.
Food was excellent but not enough waitstaff. We waited a long time to order and a long time to get our bill at the end. They just needed more staff on hand.
The food was outstanding and we loved the thali concept. The dessert thali was especially cool and we were especially impressed by the outstanding flavor and texture of the pate de fruit. Loved the goat cheese crepes as well. The pace was good although the service felt a little impersonal. None of the staff shared their name and while I'm *pretty* sure I know who our primary server was, I couldn't be positive. Low noise level made conversation easy which was great.
A nice restaurant but the atmosphere was super casual and the price point was high. I appreciated the "tasting" Talia but did not find it to be crazy unique or 5-Star, just a solid meal - again expensive
This was our second time here and they did not disappoint! Even though I was fresh off of an endoscopy procedure at the nearby hospital, I was still able to thoroughly enjoy their food. The service was great, the food is creative and delicious, and the overall experience is one that we will definitely return for. I definitely recommend them!
The restaurant was clearly overwhelmed by the NYE crowd. It took a while to get us seated (~20mins past our reserved time - we didn't mind since it would mean we could be closer to the midnight fireworks but would've been a problem if we had other plans afterwards). Service was also 'leisurely'. There were no explanations as the food was served (only tasting menu available on NYE). Music was a bit loud for the ambience.
Food - hit or miss. First course (salad!) was the highlight with good flavor/texture combinations (though there was a bit too much avocado on the plate). Ravioli was simple yet tasty though pasta to filling ratio was off (too little filling). Could also have used a touch more sauce (again, tasty sauce). Third course (dill cheese...) was a touch too salty and needed some citrus to balance out the flavors. Desserts were disappointing (we tried 3 of the options on the tasting menu and only one - chartreuse ice cream - was acceptable). The coffee sauce with the Baklava was off-putting.
We are still intrigued by the menu and might give the 'thali' a try one of these days.
Everything was fine, but not worth the price. There was nothing really special and mini servings (note, I have eaten at other restuarants with small servings - there were more course and/or something extra tossed in to add a bit of fun etc)
one of my favorite places. everything is always amazing!
The food was all over the place. The different items were not compatible with eachother. It's almost like the chef didnt really think through the different items in the thali when putting it together. Was eg there was naan but absolutely nothing saucey to eat it with it. And we paid $30 + tax + 20% service charge for it. Absolutely unreasonable..
Excellent service; good food!
We ordered salmon and duck breast. Salmon was tasty but small on portion. Duck was cooked perfectly and large in portion. Desert for two was okay. Overall it was a great meal. Will definitely go back soon.
The service is good, but the food is very salty and heavy. The fix menu is too overpriced and the dessert is too sweet.
Had to wait 15 minutes for our reserved table, but understandable as it was Christmas eve. Fixed price menu was a good value compared to most other restaurants and the food as always is stellar.
Christmas Eve Dinner
Wonderful visit on Christmas Eve. The food was delicious, the staff was excellent and gracious.
I was really looking forward to Christmas eve dinner at Poppy. We've been there before and always enjoyed the experience. Unfortunately, our holiday dining experience was disappointing. Service was slow, food was just ok- definitely not worth the price. If this had been our first time we would never go back.
Service could have been better. It was pretty slow and we had to call the waiter a couple of times to get his attention.
Overall fantastic eating. Thali plates are extraordinary and perfect sized portions.
Love Poppy! Came here before a concert at St Mark's and was once again amazed by the flavors, the creativity and the diversity. Great wine list, great ethnic flavors, unique combinations and hearty bites.
Oscar was excellent!!!!! We’ll b back!😘
