What Insiders Are Saying
Providence is experimental, seafood-focused fine dining that's absolutely worth the price of admission.
Food was great, staff was very knowledgeable. Overall a very nice experience. A little pricey but worth it for real foodies.
Amazing dinner for a 50th birthday! Everyone was very warm and kind, and food was divine.
Everything about the meal was fantastic. Food is great best in LA and could easily compete with top restaurants around the world. Service was attentive and helpful but not overbearing. Elegant without being stuffy. A wonderful experience- like eating at a starred restaurant in Paris.
Amazing food , great atmosphere , good service. I think it’s a great place for romantic dinner .
Providence was wonderful. Loved the emphasis on seafood. Service was great. Their new bread was fabulous. The dishes were very flavorful.
If Michelin would review the restaurant, it would get 3 ***!!
Creative food, outstanding service. Carlos was a terrific waiter and made our dinner even more enjoyable.
Amazing experience with great food, amazing service. Very rounded! The uni egg is the best!!
My friends and I have dined together and with others at several Michelin star rated restaurants at LA, SF, and throughout the world. We agree when it comes to LA and SF, Providence is arguable the best or at least when your looking for the best in California, in the spirit of March Madness, you have to include Providence in your Final Four!
To Whom It May Concern,
I have been to Providence a handful of times since 2012 and I have never been disappointed with the food, presentation and service. I have brought my family here and my sister is also a huge fan of Providence. I decided to bring my boyfriend here for the first time for our anniversary on 4/6/19 at 8:45PM under Liang. I was very excited to show him this place, but unfortunately Saturday night did not meet our expectation.
The area in which we sat felt like a corridor area which made it feel like we were away from the ambience of the restaurant. When we had the bread it was inevitable for crumbs to get on the table, but no one came to clean it up until later. The servers did not seem very enthusiastic either when presenting each dish. I understand it was late in the day and we stayed til almost midnight, everyone was probably tired, but with the reputation of Providence, I would have expected them to be a little more attentive and enthusiastic.
When we started our course we noticed that the first dish was pretty salty, but we figured it was just that one dish. After 4-5 dishes which were all on the salty side we decided to notify one of the servers. The saltiness was overpowering and it was hard to enjoy the dish and enjoy the taste. After the correction the dishes afterwards were better. The manager did come to apologize and comped our 2 cocktails. However half of our course was salty and not enjoyable.
In the past the chef did an amazing job at balancing each dish and having a contrast of heavy and light dishes to counterbalance each other. We felt that each dish was heavy and creamy and there was no light dish to counterbalance it. It wasn’t until the end when we had the sorbet that we finally had something more refreshing.
I must say that the experience was sub par from what I have experienced in the past and to be frank, I felt it was not worth the amount of money we spent.

Absolutely the finest restaurant in Los Angeles. From the moment you walk in the door, the welcoming staff takes care of you. The food is beautiful and the flavors are wonderful. The wine pairing is the best I've experienced. On par with Le Bernadin in NYC. Don't miss this restaurant if you have a chance.
we recommend Providence to people all the time. it is my wife and I favorite restaurant and the staff is amazing.
This was an experience of a lifetime...the food was beyond compare, the paired wines were equal to the task and the wait staff was exemplary! A must do for the essential foodie.
The food was outstanding! presentations beautiful. the service was perfunctory. nothing terrible to note but at this level of thoughtful cuisine, the service could have snapped in a few areas. And, yes, I would return.
Food is masterfully prepared, artistically presented and delivered by the finest waitstaff in the industry. Wine selection and service is superb. Over the years we had many outstanding meals.
This review would be amiss not mentioning a serious problem with this restaurant: at dinner, guests must order one of the multi-course menus, there is no a la carte option. Friday lunch is the exception.
Wonder full food service and room comfy
Impeccable food and such genuinely kind staff! The chef was so friendly and greeted us as well. Thank you for a memorable experience.
Fantastic in every way!
There's only tasting menú, and it's a lot of food, there are some plates that are no good and other plates very good. But something intoxicated me.
The food in general was on a salty side. Even considering that it was mainly a seafood house, the saltiness broke the balance of the dishes.
Especially the main courses were almost terrible, with the wagyu feeling like a waste of meat with such strong flavours of condiments, which overshadowed the flavour of the meat. Also the steelhead was cooked in a very confusing foamy cream of wasabi combined with sesame, which brought only unbalance to the dish.
Quite dissapointed in general, with a few good dishes in between, but overall being rather on the weak side of fine dining.
I believe this is the best restaurant in L.A. overall.
Very good sea food. The food was heavily inspired by Japanese culture and I enjoyed it very much as a Japanese myself.
What an amazing experience. The food was outstanding. The service was impeccable. There wasn't a single moment that our needs weren't tended to by one of their many trained and talented staff. We can't wait to go back, we'll just need to spend some time saving up...because it wasn't cheap. But, that being said, you pay for what you get and what we got was one of the best dining experiences we've ever had.
Great experience! We came her for my bfs birthday. The staff was attentive, accommodating and knowledgeable. While we were waiting, there was a man walking around with chorizo skrewers. We had a great waiter. We did the 16 courses special (3 hours) and every course was amazing. Our bill was my rent but it was an amazing experience.
Thank you for a fantastic evening - we had a great dinner.
Will recommend for the experience....fancy tasting menu which was so challenging to make a reservation during special occasssions
It's perfect place to date with your girl friend. It's very elegant.
We came in with high expectations—our first time at Providence was about three years ago, and we were blown away. We were disappointed with the food this time.
We did the 11 course chef’s menu, and most dishes tasted the same. We also found most of the dishes to be on the salty side.
Amazing as was the service. The only two points of improvement would be telling a lot of parties to keep it down an offensive group of people were shouting. Also a menu of the meal to take home would be nice
8th Anniversary dinner. As always, a great place for special occasions. Never ever a wrong note. Thank you!
Everything was amazing! I wished they did something special for birthdays and had a separate ala carte menu for children. I understand that it’s more of an adult restaurant but my 12 year old options were limited.
Amazing! We chose the 16 course menu (11 menu items and 5 amuse vouches) and all were exquisite and delicious. One of the best meals we’ve ever eaten, on par with kaiseki dinners in Japan.
This has to be the most overrated restaurant I have been to in a while. Unprofessional service from start to finish. Poor execution of dishes relating to fish cookery. Price tag his very high for the experience and product.
Service was impeccable and so were some of the dishes like the wagyu, desert, bread.
However, all the fish and vegetables lacked the freshness you would expect at this price point.
One of the best dining experiences I have had. Amazing food, quality, and service. Would definitely come again!
Exquisite. In a world where nothing is perfect and most people seem to be satisfied with that. With less intelligence, less care, less quality, less imagination, less sensual delight - one chef - Michael Cimarusti - and one restaurant is an exception. One restaurant is perfection. That is Providence. From the moment I called with questions and special requests for my Boston visiting sister to our first bites of delicacies - everything was filled with grace and joy and heavenly tastes! We found the Signature Menu and table side spot prawns sublime and the care of presentation and service was absolutely perfect. Don’t wait for a visiting sister, go now! Or, whenever you need to escape to heaven, which is Providence!
Exceptional food and service. We ordered the chef’s tasting and added the uni egg. We shared a half bottle of wine rather than the wine pairing so we wouldn’t be too full. Just on the food alone, we were dying from the amount of food/amuse bouche/additional chef offerings! Next time, we would like to order less courses and add the wine pairing. Overall, a great experience and we’d love to return!
The best dining experience in LA. No exaggeration.
