Red O is a beautiful restaurant. There were many individuals who bussed the table, and kept the water glasses full. The server was helpful, friendly, professional, and checked on us frequently to make certain everything was to our liking. Birthday desserts were complementary and delicious. The lobster and shrimp enchiladas were amazing. The valet and hostess were extremely friendly as well. Loved the evening!

Let me start by saying I wanted to book for my daughters graduation dinner and was told to leave email with Kristina in which I did on 6/8/22 and received no response back. I took it upon myself to just make multiple reservations. Fast forward I flew in town and showed up to restaurant the day before to confirm. Mgr on duty stated to leave my name, email and phone number and they would put reservations together and accommodate. I arrived the next evening and nothing even after being told where we would sit. Anyhow we were placed outside and immediately they brought still and bubbly water without even asking. We had 20 people they placed 12 bottles of lg bottles on my bill at $10 each. They will upsell you to death at this restaurant. Kind of like going to a timeshare meeting. The food was just ok not authentic Mexican food. I grew up in South SD so I know what authentic is. The gentleman Mgr on duty in the evening is a little stuck up. The servers are not fine dining as they say. But I guess in this climate of the world you get what you get. Would I return NO I’d rather go to Karina’s where I know I’ll get authentic food.

Where do we start.. The waiter rarely ever came by. When asked what he recommended, he had little care and just named the most expensive dish on the menu. The drinks took 20 minutes. Waiter forgot our entire order and came back to take it again. He didn’t tell us that one item wasn’t available and the server just brought out a replacement thinking he told us. Guacamole was sour, sopes were burnt, pork belly was so far past overdone that I had never experienced it that way, the shrimp were as small as they get, ahi tartare was mediocre, $60 med rare filet was medium well and dry, and the list goes on and on. The icing was that the waiter didn’t give a damn and the manager walking around only focused on one table. What an awful experience.

O’s was a disappointment. The server actually wouldn’t let us order what we wanted because he didn’t like it. The tequila cart was weird and only brought out to new customers to try and force a purchase of their high end liquor. The food was overpriced and the taste was underwhelming. The ambiance was good as was the noise level. Inadvertently left a to go box when we start to leave. Literally walked away and didn’t even get to the entrance before I turned back to pick up the to go box. The busser had already taken it and trashed it within two min. Won’t be returning any time soon.

To begin, this was our first experience in dining at Red O. We noted that it was a 4 person birthday celebration but Red O did not even acknowledge this. We were seated promptly and given drinks and chips. Our waiter was clearly overwhelmed or just not good. Got our order wrong, kept forgetting requests we made during the meal, was very talkative but actions never followed his words. He got the check wrong and we had to explain why numerous times, how to correct. The saving grace was the food. It was excellent but with a hefty price to go along but we believe we got value for the quality of food. If we go back we will make sure we do not have the same waiter. PS. We were not there during the busiest time but this did not help our waiter.

Beautiful restaurant. Pricey with so-so food. Our waiter wasn’t good but the bus staff was great. We did not sit in the bar but just wanted a couple tacos that they were serving for happy hour and were told we couldn’t order tacos separately. Probably wouldn’t go back.

We were seated right away, bus boy came by with water. And then just sat there. For 10 minutes nobody looked at us or spoke to us. We finally stopped someone & asked for our server. They said they would get someone. Then another waiter stopped the waiter that had been working at the table next to us and said we were waiting “Not my table” and walked away. Frankly I’m glad he wasn’t our waiter he seemed really rude & put out by having to work. By process of elimination a waiter came over, did not look happy to see us. I ordered a drink with Barcardi rum. When he came back & I took a drink it was obvious it wasn’t Barcardi. I asked if he had gotten the drink correct, he said rum. I asked what kind & he said “We don’t have Bacardi, that’s Capt Morgan” which is why I did not like it, I am not a fan of Capt Morgan. But the waiter should have told me they don’t have a certain brand & not assume they can replace it without asking. The food was good, but the overall service was poor. Maybe it was a bad night, it didn’t seem overly busy… but the waiters all seemed annoyed & put out.

The service and attentiveness of the staff was exceptional! The tequila is so tasty, and the Alacran margaritas had the right amount of spice - one of my favorite margaritas in San Diego. The shrimp ceviche was a little heavy on cucumber, but otherwise tasty and plenty to share at the the table with plantain chips. The entrees were served hot and the quality was 5-star worthy — both the chicken enchiladas and the short rib burrito (wet, of course, with both green and red sauce)! Recommended for any occasion, and I hear happy hour specials are pretty good, too.

I requested a booth for a birthday celebration on my reservation, and the hostess seated our group near the kitchen. The server was able to accommodate our request to seat everyone at a booth, which we had done previously with five people, but this time we only had four. We had a fantastic waiter who made the night special, and I gave him a generous tip at the end.

We have visited Red O many times and love it. Excellent margaritas, as usual. Very good food. Our service was poor this visit. Our server Om** kept forgetting about us. It was a slower evening, and he kept disappearing. We still tipped well, as I imagine he had a slow night. Still recommend Red O.

I'm always on the lookout for Mexican sit-down style restaurants. Being spoiled with great taco shops throughout San Diego, this was a good find. Reservation for 4 was easy and table was ready almost immediately upon our arrival. The ambiance is dark, but not offensively. Dark tones and lively music are the first things that you notice. It was relatively busy, and the customers were lively and seemingly enjoying themselves. We were seated and served water and chips and salsa. The salsa was very mild, almost sweet in flavor, not spicy, but a decent start. The chips were very good. Overall, the waiter wasn't around very often to check on drinks, but the rest of the wait staff was quick to help as needed. I ordered the Shrimp Aguachile appetizer, the Enchilada Trio for dinner, and the Blackberry Bramble for a drink. The drink came first, delicious combination of blackberry flavor, lemon juice, and gin. Second was the Shrimp Aguachile. It was a good aguachile. It was spicy, although I think it could of been a little bit spicier. I also wanted either more chips or something else to combine the flavors together, probably should've just used a spoon instead of the fork. Very good and I would get it again. The Enchilada Trio came last. It was one short rib, one chicken, and one lobster and shrimp enchilada with a side of refried beans and red rice. The enchiladas were very good. Each having their own sauce, neither sauce taking away from the other enchiladas. I preferred the seafood over the other two, but the other two were good as well. I want to come back and try their ribeye or their Prime Surf and Turf Tablita, those both sounded and looked phenomenal.

Service from our assigned waiter was horrific. So many weird, bizarre, unpleasant, and unbelievable occurrences took place with the waiter that there isn’t enough space here to mention them. I never do this, but at the end if the meal, I had a long discussion with the manager.

Overall, it was just ok. Drinks and appetizers arrived late and entrees also immediately after. Service felt rushed. Food was also just mediocre.

Wonderful staff, great Ambience, delicious food! Can be booked for date night or large corporate groups. Only reason it’s not getting 5 stars is bc it’s a chain.

Used to the Newport location but this was a beautiful change , and service was amazing. Don’t miss the tequila cart!
