We chose to celebrate our son's birthday with the Taste and Test menu at Sage. He lives in New York, so he could not join us, but we could share photos of the menu, the dishes, and our score sheets, so he could vicariously share in the joy of a unique experience with a chef experimenting with ingredients, recipes and finicky diners.
It was great!
We had a lovely meal for our anniversary. 5 courses with a few extra bits thrown in. One vegan meal and one omnivorous, but the meals were very similar in style and equally delicious. No one felt they were missing out.
The service was spectacular and the ambience be lovely for an intimate meal for two.
We really enjoyed out visit to Sage dining rooms. We went for lunch as the Saturday night was fully booked. The food was lovely and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Loved it, would highly recommend Sage
Sage is the restaurant that we choose to go to for all our special occasions and in between as well. The atmosphere is beautiful and the staff make you feel welcome from the moment you enter the room. The food is exciting and interesting and presented with attention to aesthetics and detail. Each course is plated up on special pottery which adds to the dining experience.
We had the Taste & Test set. The whole 4 course savoury meal was veggies except for a strip of Calamari on the 2nd course. I was expecting a build up of flavours but that did not happen. The last meal Baked Alaska was something I like till I found some egg shells in my dessert. The only thing I liked was the bread and butter. The rest were standard and not worth $85 per meal.
Poor, it was the worst we had tasted for quite awhile and we very very disappointed given our expectations from previous experiences at Sage and taking a friend along for her birthday. They seemed to have chosen cheap ingredients and some poorly prepared (burnt leak!) and there didn't seem to be any linking theme. Would need a good excuse to try their taste and test again!
Yes. This was a test and tase. But the choice of meals buy the chef was poor. Unusual and below average flavours and textures. I don’t mind trying different good. But thus was very disappointing. And very expensive. For the price I expect much better quality. There was nothing in that selection that we would ever order off a menu.
We enjoyed a lovely tasting menu opportunity. Five courses and we scored points against each. Plus an opportunity to enjoy a selection of companion wines. A lovely afternoon.
We did the Taste and Test menu and it was such poor quality. I was so shocked as we normally come here and it's very nice. 1st course was a hasselback potato, second was calamari, third was burnt leek, fourth was sinewy lamb in mint leaves, and the fifth was a hard sponge. The leek was the best one. Incredibly disappointed as we usually come here for our anniversary dinner each year. The staff were lovely though.
Not up to usual standards. No wow factor with any of the courses. Service however was first class.
Did the tasting menu, which if i had cooked i would have been disappointed. It wasn’t satisfying and everything was all over the place flavour wise.
First time I have been and I certainly would not return.
A usual favourite of ours but the last visit left us a bit disappointed.
A distinct fail on 2 of the 5 courses.
And for the first time we left a degustation looking for a burger.
Lovely food, always interesting, great service. A little expensive. We have been many times and keep returning for special occasions.
Have dined at Sage numerous times, unfortunately the whole group agreed that it was not as good as in previous experiences. First dish was excellent but average after that in comparison. Food was definitely nice but not exceptional as per expectations set by dining at Sage previously.
Thoroughly disappointing food - such a shame as Sage was a favourite.
Tough wagyu, tasteless fish, sliced bread that was reheated in a hot oven to the point where it could break a molar.
The flavors for the first two dishes were the best for the night. Really harmonious umami flavours from the cheese, mushroom, truffles, chicken broth. It was perfect. The xo fish, and beef mains were a bit standard compared to the first dishes but overall we enjoyed the meals. Some ingredients and flavours we've never had before. Dessert was unique - hibiscus and mushroom ice cream. Service was great. Only wish portions were bigger but would otherwise recommend
Excellent food & service. They made us feel welcome and each dish was a taste sensation
One of the absolute best restaurants in Canberra. Can’t fault it.
Great night out as always at Sage, friendly staff and attention to detail was excellent. Highly recommend for a romantic night out or a dinner party with friends.
The food was excellent.
However, it was disappointing to have a table booked for 8pm, to only be seated around 8.30pm, and to only receive our bread around 9pm. The bread was part of the set menu so it's not like they did not know it would be required,
Service was outstanding as was our previous experience.
New menu, with focus on local. Excellent service.
The food was amazing and has improved alot since we last went in 2018. Each dish was unique in its own way and tasted beautiful. There were interesting combinations which worked so well together. We left feeling truly satisfied with the experience. We could not fault the service.
Thank you to the chef he is gifted in his profession.
Beautiful food, friendly service and a delightful setting in a quiet oasis in the centre of town. A lovely experience.
Sensational in every way! Can't wait to back! Perfect for our power lunch meeting and pleasantly surprised with our meals!
Great food - our favourite is the trout entree, and the wagyu. The bread is exceptional. Value not as great as my last visit 18 months s ago but still to me the best restaurant in Canberra. Coffee quality needs improvement. Level of table service could improve e.g should seek coffee order earlier and ask to remove bread plates prior to dessert time. Toilet exit was locked prematurely.
The wait staff were lovely, they had a good understanding of the menu and we very polite.
The food was great, it was a perfect evening out.
Great food, atmosphere and service I would certainly recommend it to my friends.
Staff took care of us on our wedding anniversary. Gave us a set of mocktails on the house and wanted honest feedback on their food from guests to improve. Thank you for having us!
Wonderful, creative and beautifully presented food - a very special experience. Thank you!
The tasting menu was great but could be improved. Second desert (chocolate sand) didnt't work and the beef, which was fantastic, needed side vegetables.
We had the matched wines which were excellent.
Food was great, service was very friendly but took a while to get drinks and refill water etc. They appeared under staffed for a Saturday night.
Awesome! Great service
We really enjoyed the 5 course degustation menu for dinner on Saturday night. My husband had the wine pairings, and I had the mocktail pairings, which was really nice as I'm pregnant and got to enjoy the experience without the alcohol. The service went for around 2 hours. The staff were attentive without being intrusive, and the ambience was really nice. It felt cozy even though the restaurant was full.
Our waitress Ella was lovely, attentive, polite and accommodating. She had obviously studied her food facts well.
Sage is simply an amazing restaurant, food is first classs. Staff are professional, knowledgable and very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. We had lunch there on our visit to Canberra in March 2021 and the outdoor dining is just amazing and should not be missed, indoor was just as beautiful.
The staff were just amazing, Tia & Beth made our visit memorable, the chefs (sorry cannot recall names) were equally as amazing.
I say amazing a lot here, but this was one of our favorite restaurants we have ever dined at (and as business owners and travel extensively we dine out a lot)
Thank you Tia, Beth and all the staff at Sage, we will be back ASAP
Delicious food. Enjoyed our time. The very last dessert (apricot jam) was a little too sweet but was still very good.
here is a great dining experience, nice ambience, friendly service and wonderful food, inventive and subtle without becoming pretentious.
Usually a great dining experience but this time the food and service not up to scratch. The chef’s special degustation seemed to be trimmed back - usually includes two entrees, a main, a dessert and small appetisers / palette cleaners in between - just an entree, main and two desserts this time (which both desserts were well below average). When the the last course came around (just a few minutes after the fourth), we ordered a dessert wine only to be told we had five minutes left at the table and that we should order and finish out last course at the bar instead. I also mentioned my friend’s birthday twice and was promised a birthday plate which never came. Poor effort all round.
Incredibly slow service. There was a bug in my boyfriends wine (they kindly took this off the bill for us). Very expensive but we didn’t enjoy the meals.
