Sea Level Oyster Bar- NBPT

Best Oysters I ever had. Ordered the baked seafood pie which was also very good.
1st time customers. I made a reservation through OpenTable, but my comments were ignored. The website asked if I wanted a high top or low table and I requested low. I also asked for a table with a view. First I was shown a high top table in the bar area and then I was shown a table adjacent to the bar in a somewhat dark area. Finally, we were taken to the room in the back, much larger with a view of the water. Someone was playing a guitar and singing which was rather loud and it made it difficult for people to talk. As for the food, I had the fish tacos which where tasty, but the fish was dwarfed by all of the ingredients that covered it. My husband had a glass of wine with three different fresh oysters which he enjoyed. Then he ordered the bouillabaisse which he said was good. Together, we shared the spinach, brussel sprout and beet salad. That was the best part of the meal. Our bill, with the tip came to $95. A little pricey for lunch
We had shellfish at numerous restaurants in the Newburyport area. The lobster roll at Sea Level was the best by far; the brioche adds to the flavor. Oysters were excellent as well. It's nice having it adjacent to the theater which, unfortunately, was dark the evening we went.
The staff was nice. We didn’t get our high top that we had requested. The dining room was somewhat close quarters and it was very noisy. Hard to hear. Oysters were great! The meal was tasty but came to the table a little cold. Drinks were good and the desserts were different and delicious. Waiter was really nice. Would definitely go back but may want to sit in the bar area. Seemed a little quieter. Overall good experience.
Show at the firehouse
Lots of seafood choices, no matter what your preference. It is rare to find a restaurant that gives you a choice to build your own meal-choice of fish, how it’s prepared and choice of sauce.
First off, we had Gary as our server. He is by far the best waiter we’ve had anywhere in a very, very long time. The food is excellent. The scallops in particular are insanely rich and delicious and cooked to perfection. The haddock and the salmon that my party had was also excellent! My only criticism is that the restrooms are for the entire building and not specific to the restaurant. They are downstairs and kind off dirty. Not their fault but people should know. All in all a very good experience.
Delicious meal at Sea Level Oyster Bar at The Firehouse Center for the Arts in Newburyport. We started with a warm spinach salad that included brussels sprouts and a yummy vinaigrette. It was enough for 4 to share. The stuffed haddock is incredible with a crabcake baked onto the top, creamy mashed potatoes and fresh perfectly-cooked mixed vegetables. Its lemon butter sauce was light yet flavorful. Grilled shrimp was superb. The only complaint was that the chicken meat in the chicken sandwich tasted a little bland. It was cooked nicely, but needed more seasoning. The cocktail menu was clever, fun and tasty. Overall, an excellent dinner before the show at this cool restaurant/theatre venue.
Great restaurant - we loved all our meals! Will definitely be back!
Excellent casual restaurant to dine with family and/or friends. Food was delicious.
Excellent food and very professional staff. Really enjoy the ambience.
Food, service, everything was amazing!
Already recommended this venue to friends. Terrific food friendly staff great ambience and was a very warm and comfortable dining experience. Thank you!
Great. Waiter too busy. Forgot to bring fork back a couple of times, had to ask someone else.
View and ambiance would be better in summer with doors open. A little cold in restaurant but was very cold outside.
Dessert cookie was over baked and dry.
My wife Jenni & I had been here for dinner previously. The oysters were exceptional as well as the halibut and salmon! Generous portions with perfection in seasoning! Our waitress could not have been more accommodating and pleasant, she was wonderful! We were actually 15 minutes early for our reservation but we were seated immediately! Great selection of drinks on the menu too! We only live a few minutes away and we will be back! Great job!!
Jan. 31, 2019 I went for an early dinner with two friends before Tom Rush/Matt Nakoa concert next door at the Firehouse Center for the Arts. Two of us had the Asian Shrimp with cold noodles and one of us had the haddock dinner. All were very good. We had a very sweet young waitress. The service was very good. Tom and Matt were sitting two tables away having dinner before their performance. The atmosphere was very welcoming and friendly and felt "local." We will definitely be returning--especially in the warmer months so that we can sit outside.
Definitely recommend--especially before an event at the Firehouse Center next door (which is actually connected via an inside door).
Location /atmosphere, good food, and service are the 3 biggies for us when we go out to eat. Sea Level Oyster Bar nailed all three. I loved the buffalo calamari -it was perfectly prepared. The oysters were super fresh and delicious esp the sauce they serve with them. The butternut salad was so different and also flavorful with arugula and the caramel vinigarette. The Strawberry Basis Bush drink was a refreshing and not too sweet. And the twinkie tiramisu just made my night. I can't wait to go back to this fun and delicious dining place with friends. They were so accommodating and pleasant and eager to please. Our waiter even drew a picture of the salad to describe it to me. Where do you get that kind of service?
Awesome service and food. The spinach salad is amazing!!
Good food. Generous drinks. Excellent, friendly service.
The waitress was very nice. The location great in front room. Bar tends to be loud. The food is expensive and only mediocre. My husband got a Manhattan. They charged $16 for it. When asked about the cost they had some convoluted explanation. The manager offered to comp the drink but added it would come out of his pocket. We paid the bill in full. Won’t go back there again.
It was New Year’s Eve. Busy and noisy. We sat at the bar. Bartender was awesome
Great first impression!
Great night with excellent food! Waiter was attentive and friendly, truly knew the menu and let us take our time. Had fun!
We sat at a table for two and ordered some appetizers, drinks and a pizza. The apps came out very fast but because of the size of the table there was no room to put the basket the calamari came in after we finished. We felt very rushed even though it was early. We wanted to sit and relax. I ended up getting up with the tray to get it off the table. The food was good but it was not a relaxing experience. I know you want a turnover but you should want people to enjoy the time there. I will reconsider dining there again.
All of our meals were delicious and our server was great.
Live music during brunch was great!
Our waitress ( Erin) was a sweetheart. Foods were excellent except fried calamari is rubbery. Fisherman platter and linguine excellent recommend, tacos lesser.
The food was amazing. If you like seafood, the cod was my best ever.
Food was underwhelming. Dirty tables sat unattended when there was no one in the restaurant, flies everywhere. Staff were yelling and laughing loudly at a video game they were playing in full view of the customers. Disappointing.
Fun, good food good service enjoyable evening
I went to visit my daughter at Endicott College for Parents’ weekend & we drove to Salem for lunch. We had a table overlooking the marina. Everything was great! Thank you..
Portions were too small for the price. Acoustics were ridiculously loud. Waiter was good. Won’t go back.
I thoroughly enjoyed dining here. I had the scallops and they were scrumptiously prepared. I already have gone back for a second time. 😊
Portion is to small for price
We sat at the bar and were well cared for. Enjoyed a dozen cherrystones. I had the trout with coconut rice and it was fantastic! My sister had the salmon with lemon risotto which she said was excellent.
Will definitely return!
Great time. Staff very friendly. Outstanding service
Great food and service.
A couple of "hits and misses" that the staff PROMPTLY addressed, but in general, good food and Damon was SUPERB! OUTSTANDING! Bring your poochie! They love dogs and you can have them on the outside fence next to you. Plenty of water for your four legged friend. LOVED the "decomposed" sushi. The coconut rice cake is FABULOUS! Looking forward to our next visit!
We were seated as a group of two and more than twenty minutes went by without a waiter or waitress stopping at our table to check in with us. I couldn't even get a waiter or waitress to make eye contact with me to wave them over. It wasn't busy as it was around 7:30 and many parties were emptying out at that point. We got up and left and no one asked us why. The same thing happened to the party that was seated right before us in a table right near us. They left even more quickly then we did.
We were able to sit outside, and the weather was gorgeous. The food and the service were excellent.
