Selby's was a wonderful experience! I made a reservation to dine with my husband for my birthday and the service was outstanding. Every little detail was well thought out, we sat next to the fireplace in the main dining room which was lovely. Each course was exquisite and well portioned. The martinis were fabulous and I appreciated the special birthday touches. A well earned Michelin star and Selby's will be our go to for celebratory dinners. My only feedback would be that the dessert could definitely be made smaller and still be appreciated as we were quite full by the final course. Thank you again Selby's for the unforgettable evening. I've been to restaurants in Italy, Tokyo, Paris, London, NY and this still will be one of my favorite dinners ever. Cheers!

Food is amazing, their current newest appetizer is a soft shell crab that is a must order. Dessert was probably our favorite part, and we tried the midnight cake, the crullers, and the limoncello mousse. This wasn't our first time here so we made sure to save room for dessert! The server could have been a tad bit more attentive, to check-in and see how we were liking the food, but we had no complaints and it allowed for more uninterrupted conversation, so not a big deal. The ambiance is great for a celebratory dinner.

Had a date night. They seemed to be understaffed a bit post Covid, so you need to be patient. The appetizer and main were great. The dessert was Costco size and not the best. The wine list was just too long, you can spend all date looking for a NZ white wine there. Pricing was reasonable for a Michelin. All in all, I would go back.

very attractive "clubby"atmosphere.....beautiful bar.....beef -oriented menu has many other offerings. duck breast was very large and nicely done; strip steak was excellent meat but a little too charcoaled/salty on the outside for my taste. one-third or more of the menu items come with "extra charges" over the $78 prix fixe 3 course menu....the ny strip, for instance, is an extra $25. excellent very, very pricey wine list with a few "affordable" wines. $50 corkage. good service. the room is quiet but the background music was too loud at times. special occasion place. would repeat .

We have come here in the past for many celebrations, we came on the evening of Mother's day and we were disappointed. First there are too many items now on the "Prix Fixe" with large supplements, for example the red trout with a $25 extra on top of the $75 prix fixe. The service was definitely not up to par, most of the staff seemed new from two months ago, we asked for seconds of the mocktails that did not come until we reminded the staff we had ordered them. The food was good, but not as great as the last few times. My sole was a little dry, while the red trout was good, the caviar was lost in the sauce. The filet mignon was as good as before. I hope this is an inconsistency due to Mother's Day, but this time we feel that for the very high price, the experience was not worth it.

After a very rude and inflexible response to my calling to say we were on our way, a little late, and on Atherton Avenue (less that a half mile away,)things got better. The phone answer person could have thanked me for calling to notify them which the best of restaurants usually do when you bother to let them know your timing…he was curt and said they would only hold our table for 15 minutes, that was their “.policy” and then we would lose it, and have to wait for the next available one. If eating there had not been a Christmas gift l, we would have changed plans immediately and gone to another excellent choice. He did not even know how close Atherton Avenue was! Whoever he was needs to be much nicer to locals who are prone to repeat reservations when treated right. The server, Jackson, gets an A+ as do the other person we met after getting in the door at 7:15 barely but we got there. The food was excellent. We saw friends there.who live in Atherton also.

Slightly disappointing. Service (aside from the wonderful sommelier) was lackluster and impersonal. Appetizer (mushroom velloute) was very good but pork entree and wife’s steak were overwhelmed by strong bitter sauces. Main meals felt like they lacked a deft touch, even the giant portions lacked subtlety. Slab of chocolate cake for dessert was okay, but again, more big than flavorful. Meh.

Complimentary valet parking. They seem to have an entire building with 2 stories, so quite spacious, yet has quite narrow passages and very, very dark ambience. Nice bar and lobby, but away from seating areas so couldn’t see much of them. Sat upstairs in a corner table, which with the dark ambience, felt a bit claustrophobic. Service was quite slow. Took a while for them to take our orders and bring out the drinks and then food. No sommelier to speak of, so ordered a couple of bottles off the rather long wine list. Wines were not decanted though. Menu was 3-course prix fixe but many items had a supplement. Only one amouse-bouche served and some brioche with butter. For appetizers, we had the cauliflower veloute, lobster bisque, Caesar salad and crab tortellini. Fancy presentation, tasted ok but not amazing. For mains, we had the striped bass, chicken under brick, Maine lobster and burger. The bass and lobster were excellent, rest were just ok. Quantities were generous so had quite a bit leftover. Desserts were limoncello mousse (ok), chocolate cake (quite good) and strawberry champagne sorbet (ok). Spent over 3 hours and were too full at the end. All in all, a decent experience but not mind-blowing. Service could’ve been better - not only was it quite slow but also when they served dishes, they didn’t explain them much which reduces the enjoyment. Food was mostly ok, with a couple of standouts. Could’ve served smaller portions with more amouse-bouches for variety. Prix fixe is a reasonable $78pp but many items have supplements and wine list is on the pricey side so, with tax, tips and surcharges, expect to spend $150-$200pp.

We had an early seating at this restaurant and it was a wonderful experience. We ordered many dishes and the restaurant cleverly spaced them out. We appreciated that they never rushed us. Also, the sommelier paired three different wines with our meal and they were all excellent. I definitely recommend talking to the sommelier.

I found Selby's in the Michelin Guide. My wife and I wanted to experience a restaurant with a star for a special occasion. Compared to other one-star locations in the South Bay, Selby's was the bargain and closest to us. In Atherton—who knew? We were treated wonderfully by the staff, the food was excellent and the pacing matched the time window that we gave them when we arrived. The prices were fair for the experience provided. We have had other favorite 'special occasion' restaurants in Northern California over the years but, sadly, they are gone. Selby's has now made the top of a very short list for us. We will definitely be back.

Very disappointed. We ate there 6 months ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. After this experience, 3 of the 4 of us would never return. The choice of music and the volume were very annoying. The food was just adequate, nothing special. Perhaps one of the 3 courses was well done, but not the other 2. The service was lacking. While good in some respects, it was not consistent. He brought us the wrong cocktail. It was corrected, of course. Then we were billed for the wrong drink. Something like this should not happen at a restaurant that tries to exceed. I would expect these problems at a mediocre (and cheaper) restaurant, but not at Selby's purported level. My advice: try somewhere else.

Came here on a Wednesday night and had a very disappointing experience. To start off with, our table was delayed by 40 minutes and we had to sit at the bar and wait for our table. This happens when restaurants overbook and do not allocate enough time for each table. While at the bar, the bartender was ignoring us and we had to flag him down to order drinks. He brought us a completely wrong drink and had to remake it. Since we waited for so long at the bar, we decided to order appetizers. Once again, no one to be found to order food. I kept looking around trying to flag someone down to order. I feel like I constantly had to look and wave at someone to get sone service. Finally, our table is ready 40 minutes later. We move to our table and the waiters were supposed to help us transfer our appetizers from the bar to our table. Well, after 10 minutes of waiting for this to happen, I asked our waiter where is our food from the bar? Apparently, it was mistakenly thrown away. Okay, so they bring us a replacement. At the end of the night, when we received our bill, there were two extra charges that were not supposed to be there. We basically got double charged for a couple of items. I brought this up to the waiter and he removed them. Our bill was $500 for two people. The food itself was not that amazing either. And after this disappointing experience, it did not even occur to the restaurant manager to offer some kind of compensation (perhaps comp a couple of drinks) as a good will gesture. Wow! Just wow And I had to pay $500 for this?! The 2 stars I gave was for the ambience of the place only. It was cozy, nice looking and had a fire place going. This place has been one of my worst experiences. The price tag and the service did not match at all. Q Search Me Collections More

I’ve dined at Selby’s on several occasions where the service, food and ambiance was great/ awesome. I’d recommended Selby’s to many friends advising it’s a RWC secret treasure. However, last night the service really severely missed the mark. Considering they’ve raised their prices across the board it really left a bad taste in my mouth and guests. Our server, Linda, completely ignored us throughout the evening and was impossible to flag down. She appeared to be much more attentive to the other tables that ordered several bottles of wine. The degree of service was more fitting of a diner- robotic and cold. She simply ignored us. Here’s where she missed the mark: 1. She forgot our drink orders. I had to flag down other staff members to get our drinks, which weren’t served until after the appetizers. When glasses were empty she didn’t ask if we’d like a refill. 2. The pop overs are great at Selby’s but she didn’t ask or introduce the option to order them. I had to ask…she then made a mistake with our order. We asked for 3 pop overs, she served us 4. 3. She messed up the table settings, giving steak knives to my guest that didn’t order steak (she ordered fish). And did not provide steak knives to my mother who did order steak. 4. On a couple of occasions we asked her to take a group photo for our table, she advised she needed “…to put some things down”which is understandable, but she never returned. We had to flag other wait staff to get the photo. If we waited our food would’ve gone cold 5. She didn’t introduce any of the courses/ dishes that were served. 6. Her attitude / attentiveness only improved slightly when I’d advised a different waiter that we were being severely under served in comparison to the wait staff on adjacent tables. *Note the restaurant wasn’t packed for our 8 pm reservation. I do want to give credit to Rex, the manager that attempted to absolve the situation and the other wonderful wait staff that assisted.
