   Our party and one other party (table adjacent) were the ONLY people in the joint. Total, perhaps, 12. The food took forever. Everything too forever. WHY did everything take forever? Why? Food was served tepid. Why? The Florentine Benedict was the best I've ever had. And yet, we shall never meet again.

   When we walked up to the restaurant and saw only one couple and the restaurant next door was full… I was prepared to be disappointed. Was told it was happy hour for wine,cocktails, and beer and then charged full price for a bottle of wine

   I had dinner at the Seven restaurant while staying at the Seven Gables Inn on Saturday 7/16/22. I made a reservation on Open Table two weeks prior to arrival. I was a party of one dining at 5:00pm before departing to see a show at The Muny. When I arrived at the restaurant the was one other couple seated at a table inside. It appears the bartender was the only server at the time. I asked if I could be seated outside (Covid you know) and was happily seated at a two-top in the shade while the outside temp was 99 degrees f. I needed to acclimated myself to the heat before attending the outdoor show. I had a voucher from the hotel for a free drink. I ordered a refreshing Gin and Tonic. I also order the small house salad as well as the 14oz. New York Strip dinner. All of the food was fantastic and the bartender/server was always very attentive even though I was outside and his home base of the bar was inside. I didn't have room for dessert after the entree. I rated the value of the meal down one star only because I have had similiarly good steak dinners at hotels for about $10 less than my dinner here. It was very good but maybe a little over priced. My experience at Seven was very good and I would not hesitate going back again the next time I stay at the Seven Gables Inn in Clayton MO.

   The wait staff seemed surprised and annoyed to see us. Service was incredibly slow. Salad was ok, not great. I would not go back.

   Our family went to Seven - Seven Gables Inn for Father's Day brunch and we can't wait to go back! The service was excellent - our waiter was friendly, funny, gave excellent recommendations, anticipated our needs, and checked in on us just the right amount. We sat in the beautiful courtyard and absolutely loved it. We all LOVED our meals -- shrimp & grits, salmon lox BLT, beneflorentine, and ham bennie....all delicious. In fact, I don't think you can go wrong with this menu!

   I had reservations, but when I got there and nobody was there at all. There was nobody in the kitchen nobody in the dining room nobody and so we did not get to eat a meal there

   Our dinner at Seven, at the Seven Gables, was fantastic. We were in the courtyard on a moderately warm evening. The setting and ambiance were fantastic. The service was prompt and friendly, and the quality of dinner was very good. We very much enjoyed this evening and recommend this restaurant, particularly as a bit of a change of pace and to get away from the crowd. We will be back.

   Not a welcoming place. You arrive and wander back to the patio with no greeting. Despite a reservation they didn’t seem to care that we arrived. Somewhat arrogant waiter. Food just OK. Nice patio though.

    We went there and there was one server for both the dining room, patio, and bar area, completely ALONE. No busboys/host/hostess - zero support staff. In addition, when we went to ask about the speed of service, arguing/shouting could be heard coming from the kitchen staff. I'd heard good reviews about the food, but if there's no one to serve it (told it would be a minimum wait of 30 minutes for each course), what's the difference. Be sure to contact in advance of your dining reservation to make sure they actually have available staff to serve you. We left without ordering shortly after arriving and won't attempt that again for some time.

    We , party of 5 , ate here for brunch. The menu was creative and varied. The food was delicious and executed very well. We ordered eggs & bacon, eggs & roasted veggies, frittata, eggs Florentine. The kitchen accommodated off menu side request for fruit. Wait staff very good. We ate at 10AM and it was not crowded and thus quiet. We sat in the bar/lounge area-with typical furnishings for that type room. There was some outdoor seating.

    This restaurant stood out in two major ways: the quality of the food, and the amazing service. My husband and I were celebrating our 22nd anniversary. It was very windy that evening, and we didn't want to sit outside. The indoor seating was in the bar area, so it didn't have the ambiance that we wanted, but it was our choice, because of the wind. The hostess/waitress, Jamie, knew we were a bit disappointed. She made sure we had the one of the most lovely evenings of our lives! And the food was truly fabulous! Delicious! Jamie made sure we had the special service that we were looking for to celebrate our anniversary. We will definitely return to Seven Gables restaurant.

    Seven is a great Clayton restaurant, a hidden gem. The courtyard is a perfect spot for a fun dinner in Spring or Fall. The food is excellent, offering a wide range of options and some historic Clayton restaurant recipes from many of our old favorites. A great dinner is ahead of you at Seven!

    We have dined here for dinner but not for brunch. I was a little nervous after reading review about being seated in an alternate area for brunch but our server, Eddie, assured us that we would not be forgotten. We did have to ask for coffee refills a couple times but otherwise the service was good. The food was really good! The shrimp and grits were delicious. The biggest complaint was how cold it was on the other side. The weather outside was warmer than the restaurant! Overall I would recommend Seven for any dining experience!

    I took guests and a Japanese speaker there after the talk, We had an excellent server, she was perfect. The main dishes were all very good. But I ordered two of the Tuna Sashimi for $18 each, and it came with rock hard brown wasabi, and no soy sauce. Horrible presentation and embarrassing for me. From photos and descriptions on the internet I thought it would be regular nice restaurant, but it’s a sports bar playing loud sports. Will not visit again.

    We went for a birthday celebration and the restaurant was empty. The server was friendly but not very good. He spilled water on our table and just walked away without wiping it up. My food was ok but the birthday girl ordered truffle fries with her meal, was given regular fries and the other two of us were nearly finished with our meal by the time she received the correct order. Not a great experience and expensive for what it was!!! Won’t go back

    Stumbled onto Seven for a Saturday dinner and it was fantastic. Outstanding service and the food was fantastic. My older brother is a Pot Pie fanatic. He proclaimed the Pot Pie at Seven as "the best I ever eaten!" The salmon and the pasta were also incredible. Six adults and we all loved Seven. Highly recommend

    We really enjoyed our meal and drinks when we dined here last weekend. I was pleasantly surprised with how wonderful the food was. I thought the atmosphere did not match up with the level of the food and what I mean is the place could have been a little more dim lit, just a bit to give a bit more of a fine dining feel. Just a suggestion but we will be back for sure. Very happy with our first time at Seven.

    We were celebrating an anniversary and arrived 10 minutes before our reservation time to find out that our table was given away because the host/server failed to ask the other party for a name. As a result, we were put in a room completely away from the restaurant that is normally used for the hotel breakfast buffet. There were plenty of containers of Frosted Flakes. Approximately three things we attempted to order were unavailable. Even iced tea was unavailable because “someone forgot to make it that morning.” When it was made and “fresh”, it was cloudy and beyond bitter. Since we were in another room all by ourselves, service was slow (I don’t blame that on the server, more so the circumstances). It just took away from a special occasion and family dinner.

    The food its good but the courtyard is the drawing point and it was covered over. It still looks the same as Molly Darcys on the inside. It seems to have split personalities. If all that could be worked on, the food was good.

    Food and service was amazing as always. Everything is always so fresh. The cook there is awesome. One drawback, they were out of some of the condiments but everything was still great. Not too crowded, casual and nice ambiance.

    I called to make a reservation and the person that answered the phone was not polite and did not want to make reservations for me. Instead referred me to making an online reservation. A couple days later my wife called and left a message regards to adding two more guests to the reservation. Nobody called back therefore we didn’t show up. Terrible customer service. Hopefully the food experience is better

    Meh--the restaurant was ok (but just ok), but if you know what's good for you, avoid the hotel AT ALL COSTS! Just eat at the restaurant and then leave.

    The chicken pot pie was very good as well as the risotto. It was a quiet weeknight. The overall service was ok. Pleasant but had to ask for the soup and salad to be served prior to the entree, which seemed very odd at a restaurant such as this. The ice tea appeared to be instant, or at least there were grains on the bottom of the glass, more than just a little. My wife said the butternut squash soup was very good and my salad was fine. We live in St. Charles so the chances of us coming back are slim with all of the other options that are available in that area. If you're in Clayton and in the mood for chicken pot pie, go for it.
