We have fined at both the Wellesley and the Boston locations many times. This evening seemed to be particularly busy, but when we were finally attended to by our server we were given the utmost attention, as we were by one of the Managers (Devon) (I hope I am recalling his name correctly, he certainly deserves our appreciation and our compliments). Our meals were outstanding (I ordered the Prime Rib, have a healthy appetite if you do as well!), my husband selected the Filet. Prepared to perfection and delicious. We were never left to want anything, both our server, Mike, and Devin were checking in with us on a respectable basis and were very enjoyable to talk to. All in all, a wonderful evening and the attention was truly appreciated.
This is my visit to S&W. Overall, a big disappointment on a celebratory night and unlikely to return. Bright spot: The server was very good and highly competent. Not so great: a $50 filet was overcooked (ordered medium, got medium well to well done) and fries were also badly overcooked and had to be exchanged.
Had high hopes, but it was a bit mediocre. “Hand cut fries were very obviously frozen. Brussel sprouts were mushy and the fillet was passable.
Although bone in ribeye impressive looking we recd a bad cut. TRuffle mac n cheese was all breadcrumbs not enough Mac n cheese. I would say food was average compared to other steak houses of same caliber. We’ll try again as the service was great.
My husband and I had really been looking forward to trying the “Sunday supper” at this location (had never been to this one). The menu looked great (I had already planned in advance to have the prime rib and Bailey’s chocolate layer cake.). Ambiance was nice and the server was pleasant, but everything went downhill pretty quickly. The Wollensky salad was excellent, but we didn’t receive any bread like our neighbors did. I asked the server for some and she apologized and said all the bread had burned, so they couldn’t serve it. We thought it was odd, but let it go. But, then when we got our Prime Rib entrees, we both noticed our popovers looked overdone. They were really hard to cut and tasted burnt. I mentioned it to the server and she brought over a new one, but I declined as it looked equally overdone. I overheard our neighbors remarking on the overdone popovers, too. As for the prime rib, I ordered mine medium and it was cooked just right. My husband wasn’t as happy with his medium rare piece. His was quite fatty, unlike mine. The so called roasted seasonal vegetables consisted of a small bowl of singed looking cauliflower that had no seasoning, butter or flavoring aside from a burnt taste. When it was time for dessert and I ordered my much anticipated chocolate cake, I was informed they had just run out and that servers were fighting over the last few slices. Again, we thought this was really odd. It was only 7:45 at this point, so it wasn’t like it was near closing time where it would be understandable. I expressed my disappointment and asked if I could choose something aside from the coconut cake offering. The server went to check and said she could offer carrot cake or apple tart. I wasn’t enticed by either and asked if there was anything else. She offered ice cream, which I accepted with disappointment. Much to my surprise, she returned with the chocolate cake. Overall, it seemed like amateur night at this location. Won’t return.
Our experience was hugely disappointing. This restaurant markets itself as high quality food and dining experience. It did not deliver on either point. S&W Wellesley is struggling to live up to the reputation of its other establishments. We all ordered the prime rib popover au jus. The popovers were served refrigerator cold and completely burnt. We sent them back but never received new ones. And we were offered only a half hearted apology by someone whose card said private party events manager. The remainder of the meal was edible but by no means exceptional. Going in we were prepared to have a hefty bill but were expecting great food, service, atmosphere. $400 later we basically had an Applebee’s experience. This was an embarrassment for S&W and an insult to us as patrons. We will never go back.
Food was excellent. Bar service was excellent. Hostess was dismissive and not friendly
Martini’s were not great. (And we were so looking forward to the martinis)
Bacon appetizer and chopped salad - both were phenomenal.
Filet Gorgonzola - was perfect.
Bone in Cajun Ribeye was cooked perfectly but was tough and chewey. I was bummed.
Our waitress was fantastic. Ambiance was nice, and the company was great.
One word “ awesome !”
The tomatoes in our appetizer were bad, we needed to ask several times for beverages. Wasn’t as good as it is in Boston.
Valentines Day meal with my wife to celebrate our first Valentines married. Not typically people who go out on Valentines Day but figured, why not. Unfortunately, we had a poor experience at this location of S&W. Service was poor and honestly, unacceptable. Our server told us that it was his part time job and that he was tired, and it showed. Wish we went elsewhere. It affected the rest of the experience. The people around us had the same issues we did. We spent a significant amount of money to be disappointed. Won’t dine again.
Not a great experience. Fails miserably in comparison to S&W in Boston or other locations.
Decent food, tables on top of each other, very expensive. It is a decent place, but not for the money. Would not go back
Very nice. Good food. Excellent service! The only thing that could have been improved upon is that the tables for 2 are very small and much too close to others. Other than that, we had a wonderful experience.
Server was not very attentive. Checked back to make sure we had gotten our main course when it had come, we had eaten and it had been cleared away. Food was great just a little slow but not bad.
Went on Valentine’s Day which happened to be my wife’s birthday.
I’m not sure why they wanted to know if it was a special occasion because they did not acknowledge it when we checked in.
The kitchen is not in sync with the front of the house. Entrees came in halfway during appetizers. The signature steak, the bone-in ribeye was the worst steak I have had at a restaurant of such a reputation and price level. In short, whatever could have gone wrong did go wrong.
The positives are that the waitress was empathetic and the manager comp’ed the steak. But we would have rather had a good dining experience. It would be extremely difficult to come back to this steakhouse.
Had an amazing night out. Worried that with it being Valentines and the restaurant being so busy, the service and food would suffer but my worries were proved wrong. Great night out and our waitress was the best!
My husband and I recently had our first-time dining experience at S&W - Wellesley. We started with oysters on the half shell followed by the roasted beet salad with whipped goat cheese, pistachios and truffle honey. The oysters were sweet, briny and absolutely fresh, the roasted beet salad was delicious. We then splurged on a current special for $220 that includes the Snake River Farms Swinging Tomahawk Ribeye for two paired with a bottle of their branded 2016 Rutherford 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The steak is for two and carved table side. Order this is you’re not shy because it attracts attention! We had the crusty Yukon gold potatoes with garlic butter Nd prosciutto for the side (they weren’t crusty but were meltingly delicious) and a side of asparagus. The wine went perfectly with our meal and was a wonderful experience in and of itself! Our waiter was personable attentive and knew how to perfectly pace the meal for us. We will definitely come again for experience more of their menu.
We had a business meeting in a private room. Kate provided A+ service and everyone enjoyed their meal. We’ll be back!
Karen was awesome
We had a very good meal at S they are being set up for failure by management. No one asked if we wanted another glass of wine, water was not refilled, and one entree for our party of four was delivered 15 minutes after the others, due to a dropped plate coming from the kitchen. The woman's bathroom was discusting. At this price point far more is expected.
Faulous service, as always! Loved the angry shrimp
We sat in the back and it didn’t feel like we were part of S&W. Sit at or near the bar area. Otherwise it’s good.
Right now, I would not recommend. The service was horrible, horrible!! We had to ask the hostess if someone could please come over and wait on us, we had waited about 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us sitting there. Kudos to the hostess who tried to help and make it a better experience but the wait staff need a lot of help!
Food and service were both excellent. We were seated right below a speaker in the ceiling and the music volume was excessive. When I asked our waiter to have it lowered, he responded quickly lowering the volume to an acceptable level.
This was a fantastic meal that crowned an excellent evening. The service was fantastic and the little extras in presentation and ambiance made the evening as magical as we were hoping. We will be visiting again.
2 steaks. 1 undercooked & 1 overcooked. For the high price its too bad the chefs dont know how to cook a steak. I will keep going to Capital Grill instead, should have never wasted my $!!!!!
phenomenal steak, perfectly prepared. All the food was delicious.
You are lucky you had a very good staff of two! On NY Day. Just two. They saved the day in Wellesley. Hope you bonus them out.
Very enjoyable experience. Would definitely return.
I realize it was New Year’s Eve but the waitress we had was not friendly and we felt she was not interested in serving our table. In fact we had to flag someone down to refill our water glasses. Luckily about half way through our dining experience we got another waitress who we loved and was very personable. I had been there for lunch a few weeks earlier and she recognized me, she worked at lunch that day serving in the bar area. Our entire party of 6 felt the same way towards our server.
I was disappointed in the experience. Granted it was a holiday (NYE), but they appeared under staffed, which led to long wait times for getting served. Some of the servers (not all) did not match the caliber of service one might hope for from a restaurant of this quality.
Over all, a disappointing experience but would be willing to give them another try on a not so busy night.
A wonderful but noisy New Years Eve dinner. Waitress was new on the floor so a little slow on the uptake but very friendly. Food was delicious, as always. We continue to go - it is our neighborhood favorite.
Great food and service. Surprisingly limited wine list
This was my first visit to this S&W, though I've frequented the one in NYC. The food was okay, but the rest of the experience was just horrible. Despite having asked for a table in the main dining room, we were seated in an empty back room that had all the charm of a Holiday Inn conference room -- or worse yet, a storage room. The waitress even joked about how we had our own "private" dining room. It was the worst $670 I've ever spent. The GM did call me to apologize -- I credit him for that. But the Boston area has many much better steak houses. I've never been to a Longhorn steak house, but my guess is that we would've had a considerably more enjoyable evening there. Interestingly, I noticed afterward that the restaurant's website showed it was offering a $40 "bonus card" when you spend $200. No mention was made of that when we received our bill. But that's fine, because I wouldn't return to this restaurant if it were free.
We recently celebrated my father's 90th birthday with a night out at S&W Wellesley. The room was beautiful, our meals were delicious and the service was as good as I have seen anywhere. This was our first visit to S&W since it moved into Wellesley. It is now one of our 3-4 favorite spots in the Boston area. We will return again soon for sure!
The food was fabulous, from the crisp salad and warm bread thru the mouthwatering filets and sides. Our waitstaff was wonderful and attentive. Just wish it wasn’t QUITE so expensive... but great for a special occasion. And parking was available right outside too!
Fantastic Christmas dinner! Highly recommend going there!
While we had an excellent server, the overall experience was mixed and I would not go back considering that you can get a better meal for less money elsewhere. If you are a steak lover, it may be a worthwhile place to dine. I ordered tuna medium and it Arrived too rare for my taste. I asked for it to be cooked slightly more and it returned over done. I didn’t say anything because I didn’t want to ruin the holiday dinner. The onion rings were tasty, the bread was OK, the vegetables were good. It’s rather pricey
Truly disappointed. The service was horrible. I will never go back.
