SOMO SoPhi - South Philly
It would be nice if there was a few dessert options rather than just one.
Place WAS great, been there a few time prior to my last visit. Apparently since my last visit they have changed chefs and the menu has changed. Not sure for the better either. Many items have been removed I.E. pesto fusilli, tuna tar tar. When I came this time they were out of octopus, out of blue cheese olives, out of calamari. Really? How does this happen?? It’s pretty bad when you have 6 appetizers and 2 your out of. With that said, the food is still good, atmosphere is good. But I think the back of the house needs to sharpen up. I’ll give it one more shot.
We stumbled across SOMO SoPhi while looking up new brunch spots in South Philadelphia, which is set in an ideal location around 13th and Packer Ave (right by the stadiums, formerly Medora's Mecca, but is now owned and operated by brand new folks). The online menu drew us in, so we decided to give it a shot. We're so glad that we did, because it was incredible! The Fried Chicken and Waffles, Biscuits and Gravy and Classic Breakfast selections were all quite enjoyable. The flavors are subtle but delicious and the ambience was perfect. It was a lively atmosphere but still quiet enough that you could enjoy the company of your table. For a restaurant that has only been open for a handful of months, they really know what they're doing. The service was just as wonderful as the food - thanks Katie! We can't wait to go back and try some new things (and hopefully add on the bottomless mimosas this time!)
Had a great time! Food was very good. Looking forward to going back!
Great place to go before a game or concert
Service was great
First time at this some what out of the way spot near the stadiums. Free parking across the street was a nice surprise. Place is really beautiful. Downstairs awesome bar and lounge. Upstairs open kitchen puts out the best meatball EVER! Octopus was great and the homemade pastas were amazing. The chef engaged guests and the manager made the night memorable. Really fun place to eat. We had the lemon tart for dessert- great! We will return!
Food was average. Ambiance was excellent. High energy and excellent decor!! Would go back for ambiance.
Meatballs & the Salmon Avocado & Bacon Sandwich were amazing. Lemon Tart was tasty but no other dessert options. Staff is very friendly.
Everything was really tasty!
The service was excellent at the bar and at the table
We shared excellent Brussels sprouts and moist meatballs with tomato sauce and ricotta
The pesto fusilli with scallops was eatable
The mussels were small and sweet but the sauce was too sweet
SOMO South Philly is a welcome addition to my go-to restaurant list! I love the free parking and the atmosphere. I've stopped here a few times for happy hour, dinner and brunch. I've been very impressed with each visit. I've loved the quality of the food and the staff is very friendly.
We had a reservation 6:30pm and waited 40 minutes before we were seated. We were not the only people waiting, there was 3 other couples waiting that had reservations after us. Once we sat down a waitress did not come over to our table for another 10 minutes. We did not eat because we had tickets for an event at 8:30pm. No one apologized and the waitress seemed shocked that we were not staying and she knew how backed up they were. I have eaten there before and the food was good it’s a shame it’s poorly ran.
Awful. Lousy food
The meatball appetizer and cocktails were delicious. My husband ordered the steak; which we'd seen pictured as a huge t-bone-but he got beef medallions. Also-one of the pasta dishes was already kicked---at 6:30pm on a Saturday night.
THE FOOD WAS AWESOME AND WE HAD A GREAT TIME NICE PLACE NICE PEOPLE THANKS WILL BE BACK FOR MY SONS BIRTHDAY IN MARCH SEE YOU SOON
Service was slow and portions were small, but food tasted good, attribute to being new
I have been to Somo several times each time wanting me to come back again. However this time I left with a different feeling. It was Valentine's Night service was good ,staff was kind but food was not on point.
Portion were small and not the same as before. several food items were not available that night. Which was disappointing when you go there wanting something.
Went for dinner. The service was good, the place was nice. The food was just so-so.
Walked into a brand new establishment and was blown away by decor and service. Food was amazing and drinks were delightful. Ivan was great as well. Will definitely be back!
We sat down around 830, by that time there were several items on the menu that were no longer available, so 3 of us ordered a salmon dish, come to find out there wasn’t enough salmon anymore either. We put some apps in to “come out first” before the entrees, but didn’t have anything come out for about 40 minutes, not even bread. Food was good when it eventually came out, service was just slow, no fault to the wait staff, obvious something going on in the kitchen.
Awful. Made a reservation for 6 people for a birthday brunch today (Thursday) and when we get there they said “Sorry we just stopped doing brunch on weekdays, sorry noone called you” Like yes that would’ve been nice!!! Update your website too while you’re at it 🤬
SOMO was a fun place to grab brunch before the game, walkable (15 - 20 min) to the stadium. Food was good, service was a little slow, but not terribly so. It got noiser as it got fuller, but still very reasonable for talking with table mates. Loved the yogurt parfait, not too tart. Got a biscuit and was disappointed that it was pretty flat and not fluffy or buttery.
Misguided concept. The menu is ambitious. The kitchen needs major help. The place has a real weird vibe.
Great food, decor and location. Will become a local favorite!!
Went for brunch and was very impressed. The food was excellent and the option of bottomless mimosas was a great addition. The space is beautiful, modern but comfortable. Great for a group brunch!
Great atmosphere, delicious food, and outstanding service!
Nice place for brunch!
We really liked our experience overall. The octopus appetizer was definitely a highlight. Our only criticism would be that they reevaluate their menu organization and pricing. Most food items seemed priced too low honestly, especially main entrees and specials. We really enjoyed our meal and service.
We sat at the high tables near bar downstairs
Had appetizers and a few drinks while watching playoff football
Nice lookin place...you should check it out
Menu on a Saturday afternoon was not what was published on the internet. It was very limited and mostly breakfast items. The food itself was good, albeit very hot in temperature. Very small upstairs so I am not sure I would want to dine here when it is crowded as it seemed very cramped.
I found it to be just okay. My dinner came out lukewarm. The coffee came out cold. The appitizers were okay. They ran out of Tito's vodka and had to use a different vodka and increased the price of the drink over 4.00. It wasn't our fault they ran out of Tito's. I wouldn't go back, nor would I recommend it to any friends.
The food was insanely delicious and it was arguably the most beautiful restaurant I’ve ever eaten at. Worth the trip!
The menu you have listed on here is very exciting, and when we arrived you have none of the cool stuff. No beef tartare, no tuna at all (sold out). Asparagus dish was a big yawn I can get a poached egg on grilled asparagus anywhere. The only thing you manipulated at all on the eggplant purée dish was the actual eggplant. Store bought pita that you did grill a little, olives right out the jar, and undressed spinach. Waitstaff was super nice and the food was good- just boring.
We had a great NYE dinner
It’s was just OK! My second time here.
it was sooo nice in somo such a great atmosphere and the food was great!!
Celebrated my birthday brunch here. We were a party of 10 everything was delicious. The service was great! Love the decor/ambiance.
Went to Brunch before the Army/Navy game and was very impressed.
We have been wanting to try it because we loved the restaurant that was previously there....WOW!!! The fried chicken you could clearly tell was FRESHLY hand breaded and fried. It was off the charts!! The lobster Mac n cheese 😍😍 cheesy grits, can’t say they r the best because I’ve never had them before but I’m in love lol!! Music sucked that they were playing but it’s worth it. The place is gorgeous!! Btw our waitress Jess was wonderful and friendly!!
Exceed my expectations! Food was all homemade and delicious. Waitress, Whitney was friendly. Close to eagles stadium . Great for a date night or brunch
