   The food was not as good as I remember. I have eaten at Spruce many times and this is the first time I was disappointed in the food. I ordered the sun choke veloure which was not hot and didn't have much flavor. I had to ask for bread, and I think for the price of the lunch the bread should come without having to ask. I had the salad nicoise which I have had many times. It was extremely spicy. I was scraping the sauce off of the tuna, so thet I could eat it. All in all I was not impressed with the food. I felt there must have been a different chef in the kitchen.

   Enjoyed the meal. My husband loved the bread. The scallops were delicious, liked the leeks, nice combo. The halibut was cooked perfectly and loved the butter beans. The squash, was tasteless and I wasn’t crazy about the texture. Some greens veggies would have been nice. My husbands crème fraîche cheesecake was rubbery, too much gelatin and although I appreciated having a gluten free dessert it wasn’t memorable.

   Fantastic food, wine and service. Our cost all-in with a bottle of wine was about $225 per person, so this will remain a “special occasion” restaurant for me, but it was fabulous.

   Unfortunately my experience at Sunday brunch was just okay. The prawn cocktail and halibut were not bad, they just both tasted bland. My dining partner and I were told that there was no other option than the prix fixe menu but yet some tables around us were getting options other than those in the prix fixe menu. We thought that for $98 per person the food would be better than it was. It would have been nice if upon leaving the restaurant the manager by the check/in stand would have acknowledged us and thanked us like many restaurants do. It’s not that we had a bad experience, it’s just that it wasn’t on the level that we expected.

    Excellent service, very nice atmosphere and good food. We went for brunch. The three of us agreed that the dishes were all tasty, but only one or two were outstanding. Cost is not bad compared to other Michelin star restaurants in the area.

    Spruce has always been one of favorite restaurants in SF. Whenever we visit, we always make a reservation there and it has been consistently great - except yesterday. My husband and I had brunch and were both dismayed at how disappointing it was. The service was impeccable, as always, but the food was not up to the usual standard. The new menu is odd, and the dishes we chose were inedible - the buckwheat crepe was bitter and the omelette was runny and laid on such a giant pile of crunchy leeks that I just gave up after two bites. The starters were also odd - my shrimp cocktail had a piece of shell left on that cut my mouth when I bit into it. My husbands starter was also strange - as he told me it couldn’t decide if it was sweet or savory so was left in a bland middle. The coffee cake was terrific and had we just come in for coffee cake and drinks - it would have been fine - but to spend $300 on brunch for two that was otherwise inedible was upsetting. We also both love the Spruce cream soups that are typically on the menu but not this time. We are hoping this was simply an “off” day and the Spruce experience we both love will be back by our next visit. Cocktails were typically inventive and well executed and the ambience refined and lovely.

    My husband and I had a delicious dinner with great service at Spruce on March 17, 2023. Our server was Katherine and she is lovely and very knowledgeable about the food and drink menu. All the support staff was helpful and efficient. We live out of town but visit SF often. Spruce is by far our favorite place in San Francisco for dinner. We have even brought friends who also loved everything about Spruce. Thank you Spruce staff for yet another wonderful evening!

    The pre fixe lunch second course was delayed for a very long time - both my French fries and filet mignon were barely warm by time they made it to the table. Cold fries are the worst! My friend and I had 1 glass of wine each, no dessert and w extra fees added for her entree and mine plus mandatory gratuity, our bill was over 250. Absolutely 100% not worth it. So many better options that are less expensive and better quality. Simpering, snooty service didn’t help either, although our wait person was lovely.

    Third time this winter. Great food and service and quite a good value if you avoid supplements (and even those are good and fair value, they just start to add up). Excellent wine list and helpful sommelier, but skews expensive. Also, since I have been three times since December the meninas not changed much, so looking forward to Spring

    Amazing dining experience, as always, this place is special. We had an amazing knowledgeable waiter, Michael, who made our evening even more memorable. A great friendly sommelier, perfect table, many thanks for that and let’s not forget to mention how incredible the food was-just wow!     We had heard that Spruce served the best burger in the city. Not to be. It was heavy due to a dense, too thick bun. French fries that came with it were only OK. The Caesar salad and an excellent Bloody Mary were the highlights of our lunch. While the dining room was nicely decorated and the bar visually impressive, our overall impression of the place was that is was a poor value considering the 200 plus dollars we spent.

    Right after opening, the lady’s bathroom was disgusting - the both toilet bowls. Bad start for me. No one wants to go to the restaurant that won’t clean the bathrooms well, especially at a Michelin level. Everything should be impeccable. My company had the same experience at his last visit here. So this happens occasionally and got to be fixed permanently. Food was great - especially for the $100/person. Scallop was divine, ribeye, cheesecake, wine were great. Wine list was a book, which I don’t like. Make it easier for guests by limiting the numbers! But it’s just a ridiculous standard in this industry… how could you remember hundreds of wine? I’m a certified sommelier yet can’t! But they really picked great wine (by the glass). Less is more. I’ll come back for the food, but never wanna go to the bathroom.

    Brunch at Spruce was truly a memorable experience. Our server Ne O is their most tenured server and provided excellent service. My wife lived in Austria for 20 years and we were amazed at the Austrian wine selection on the wine list. Michael Hoefling - service manager/sommelier assisted with our wine selection and after hearing about my wife living in Austria was even more eager to help us select a special bottle of Austrian wine for our meal. The freshly made coffee cake was warm and delicious. The oyster amuse-bouche had just the right balance of briny flavor with the mignonette sauce. Our first course of Carne crudo(carpaccio) of thinly sliced ribeye with all the accoutrements took first place over my delicious Dungeness Crab Toast on brioche. My wife had the halibut which was beyond tender and succulent. My chilled Maine lobster salad was rich with plenty of lobster claw meat. The mix of a lettuce wedge along with mixed greens and beets drizzled with a tangy vinaigrette was amazing. To top off this delicious meal were beignets with 2 different dipping sauces. And to put the final touch on dessert, Michael the sommelier treated us to a very special Austria Eau de Vie digestif because of the Austrian connection. This was the best meal we have had in a long time and we look forward to dinner next at Spruce.

    Celebrated my boyfriend’s 30th birthday and the night could not have been more perfect. Everyone was so attentive and the food was delicious. Definitely won’t be leaving here with empty stomachs, we had a great night dining at Spruce. Thank you!

    fantastic food and service. it was slighly unfortunate that we could not be accomdated inside as it seemed there were 2 top tables open before, during and after our dining experience outside. out waiter was effiecient and knowledgable.

    We usually go for lunch on weekdays with the $49 two course lunch but this was a birthday celebration for us and a late Christmas gift for some relatives and we were a little surprised to discover that on Sundays there's only a special brunch at $98/person which essentially doubled our cost. Since it was suppose to be a celebration we just went ahead and had a beautiful meal with lots of extra touches (the amuse bouche of oysters, pickled mustard seeds and a small "pearl" of Persian melon), the mignardises of chocolates and a jelly candy, plus three courses). The food was very inventive and delicious, presented beautifully. The service was outstanding as usually. Attentive but not obtrusive, good recommendations, etc. Spruce is a gem and the way they handled an old unused gift card in the past by comping us two meals since they had changed computer systems and couldn't tell us what the balance was, has paid them back by the 8 times we've come back, usually with friends!

    A must for a special occasion! Very pricey but the food is superb, the wait staff knows exactly when to serve and when to remove, and the ambience gives a sense of calmness surrounded by tasteful decor.

    Came here for our anniversary, and we arrived early. The Hostess’s were very unwelcoming and not very accommodating. When we checked in early they told us we couldn’t have a table until our reservation time and didn’t offer to take our large coats. We opted to have a drink at the bar, but as soon as we sat at the bar people walked in and we’re able to get a table right away. I also have an allergy to fish eggs and the first thing they brought out had fish eggs on it after I told our server that I was allergic. It was off to a rocky start but the food was excellent and everything after that was lovely.

    I went on a date with my significant other and the environment was really intimate. It was a great quiet space where we could just talk and feel relaxed. I thought the service was great. However, the prices were a bit overwhelming for what we ordered. It was only a 3 course meal and the bill came out to $290 including the 20% service fee. But overall, the plates were beautiful and the food was decent.

    Pirice fix three course menu. Of course other options are available. The basic price is $100 a person for three courses. But the minute you go for some extras, there is a fee. I had ordered a glass of wine with each corse. Great wine sommelier. I got to have French burgundy that was nature and beautiful and a great Tokai with my desert. The final bill was $511. Plus they add 20% for the tip. Still a fantastic experience. Do it again in a heartbeat

    The overall experience is great! We had the 2-course lunch and sit in the outdoor seating area. The waiter came and took our order in timely manner. When the food is served, they also took the time to explain what’s in the dish. The only minor thing is that the raw fish dish is not fresh. We told the waiter about this and he didn’t do anything. The other dishes are very tasty and good for photos lol
