What Insiders Are Saying
Does eating at Sunda feel like eating in the club? Yes, but you don't have to love the ChampagnePapi lifestyle to love this restaurant.
Love the food and service here. Traveling from Dallas, this is always a stop on my list. Thank you!
Disappointed in Sunda after our last visit. Wasn’t nearly as good as it used to be and it seems like it’s gotten even more pricey. Not a fan anymore
Fantastic food and atmosphere. The staff were absolutely top notch and accommodating. We had a fantastic dinner all around. THANK YOU!
Very good food and service, a bit noisy
Todo bien, muy rico
A friend recommended this restaurant to me and so two friends and I tried it out on Sunday night. We sat on the patio and ordered shishito peppers, spicy edamame, chicken pad Thai, panang curry, and the crazy fried rice. All was incredible!! This place does not disappoint, I’m so glad my friend made the recommendation.
Recommend for food, great options although high priced for what you get. The way the food comes out is terrible, fried rice mains came out and then 15 minutes later the actual entrees did, that’s just simple kitchen organization, don’t make people eat the rice and wait for the meat portion, this style works well for apps but really the
Mains need to come out at a similar pace. Server was pushy and a bit all over the place, mistook a few orders and didn’t do a great job of taking care of the whole table.
The worst thing that happened was I ordered a Manhattan (at a place that says they “specialty cocktails”) and it came in a rocks glass filled with ice... first of all you always ask if the customer wants it up or on the rocks, but if you don’t ask you certainly assume it’s up as would be tradition.
I asked for it to be made up when I say the glass full of ice and the delicate flavors melting away... and she returned a minute later with a Manhattan up... only it appeared that she just strained the watered down beverage from the rocks glass into a coupe. Worst Manhattan I’ve had and unacceptable for the type of place.
I come here once a year when I’m in town for the restaurant show, and I have to say this year was a big big let down.
Love the creative assembly of ingredients to deliver a tasty treat that's more than the sum of its parts!
Fantastic meal! The service fell off a bit as our server's section filled and the noise level was very loud. I'd still go back just for the food. Amazing!
Knowledgeable attentive service and amazing food. A win win. Can’t wait to go back.
Food and ambiance off the hook! Enjoyed Spicy Edamame, Oxtail Dim Sum and the Crazy Rice. All shareable dishes. Left full, comfortable and excited to experience the food again! Highly recommended to many friends and anyone who visits should definitely put this on their list of dining places!
Get the Chilean sea bass! It's the best thing on the menu and melts in your mouth.
Some of the best sushi in Chicago. The brussel sprout salad is a must!
Love the energy here, the food and drinks are always excellent along with top shelf quality service. Plus can’t beat the crispy Brussels sprout salad, a must have!
the chicken wings are a MUST have, so was the brussel sprouts salad...but then everything was delicious.
The Brussels sprouts salad was amazing! Great place for sharing.
Food - Ahhhmazing! Service - Non Existent. I have been to this restaurant numerous times, and this time we were totally ignored. No water refills, no drink refills, no waiter with the check. The food was unbelievable and came out perfectly by the food runner. I can only assume our waiter was swamped or something. Hated spending so much money for such terrible service, but the food was worth it. Maybe it was just an off day; I'm hoping.
Sunda is my favorite place. I love the creative menu and could order everything on it
I will be back soon
Sunda never disappoints! I took my daughter and her boyfriend there for her 21st birthday, and our server went above and beyond making sure we had an amazing and memorable meal. LOVE the food here and the service is always outstanding . . . as is the energetic ambience. It'll always be one of my favorite Chicago restaurants.
Amazing. Great atmosphere for a romantic and fun date. Would definitely recommend for a date night or any occasion.
Vegan menu was out of this world! Made my hard to please mother very happy
Sushi great, any fried chicken dish should be avoided - our two were cooked to a dry death.
If I could give the food more than 5stars I would!
Mother’s Day brunch was awesome
We usually don't eat at buffets, but were very happy with our experience at Sunda. The food was delicious and fresh which can be difficult to accomplish with a buffet. I would like to have seen a little more sushi offerings and less American standard fare since you can get the latter almost anywhere else. I appreciate the Filipino dishes and was pleasantly surprised at the number of those dishes available. The service was accommodating and friendly without being intrusive. The environment was well decorated with a spacious atmosphere. The seating was comfortable and well placed with enough room for guests at the table and far enough from adjacent tables. The price point was a bit more than what I would usually spend for a buffet, but taking the entire experience into account still a pretty good value.
Fun for groups and sharing food
It was okay, portions seemed significantly smaller this time around than the last time I was there. Ordered the tiger shrimp tempura and the bowl was so empty you could see the bottom of it when it came.
Sunda was amazing! I reserved a table for 5 through OpenTable and we arrived and had to wait about 5 minutes to be seated. Our waiter was EXCELLENT (I believe his name was Dan), he knew everything about the menu and had great recommendations. The Brussel sprout salad was superb and the sushi was outstanding. Booked another table at Sunda for a graduation dinner as we were eating this time! Can’t wait to come back.
Good, not great sushi. Overpriced drinks and average service make it hard to recommend.
Great ambience and tasty brunch dishes. Would recommend for family/friend outings.
After many standout experiences, this night out for my husband’s birthday was a miss. The service was sub-par, and our waitress was extremely inattentive. We felt the desserts left something to be desired as well. Overall, I must confess I am disappointed in the overall experience.
Food was excellent. We had a few kinds of sushi. Service was ok. Server didn't seem overly interested in serving us.
I used to have an office here in Chicago for a few years, and Sunda became my absolute favorite restaurant in the city! I was ecstatic to be able to join you as I was in town for one night only. Thank you for ALWAYS giving amazing service and EXCELLENT food!
We found Sunda to be basically Asian-Japanese fare jacked up with additional meat and grease. The experiments were not always successful but what the heck, it probably makes sushi more accessible for some people. The Ghost in the Shell was a good drink. Environment too loud and too dark for us.
The sprout salad was simply spectacular. The Gambler sushi was delicious yet comes with a warning, not for the feint hearted. You have to try it. Ghost in the shell cocktail was smoother than Barry White.
Perfection. Loved all of it. Best I’ve had. Definitely will return.
Dodd good, service prompt and efficient.
Asian fusion at its best! Service was kind and attentive. Ambiance was classy and comfortable. We did eat at 6pm, so atmosphere wasn't too loud. Delicious food, I was very surprised the well done steak we had was very moist! I will definitely go back.
