Tanta is dedicated to sharing the flavors and culture of Peru with Chicago, serving authentic Peruvian dishes and beverages in an approachable, fun and casual downtown setting. We provide service that is casual yet knowledgeable, genuine and attentive, utilizing locally sourced products and vendors that are sensitive to sustainable farming and fishing.

Tanta has two Chef’s Tables that each seat up to 10 people. These tables are located in our main dining room in between our open kitchen and cebiche bar which allows you and your guests to experience our chefs creating Peruvian cuisine while you dine.

The menu, created by Acurio and Tanta Chicago Chef Jesus Delgado, takes diners on a voyage through Peru via its food. From the Pacific Ocean, through the Andes, to the desert, to the Amazon, Tanta celebrates the diverse landscape and ethnicities that make up Peru’s culture.

Our first visit to this restaurant was exceptionally wonderful except for one flaw. We made the reservation on Open Table and when we got to the reception desk, we were escorted to a table in the back of the restaurant, close to the kitchen. We asked for a front table which was unoccupied. The gal was reluctant to move us forward.

However, once we were seated at a table upfront, the friendliness of the waiter made up for everything. He made recommendations which were superb.

We started our meal with Pisco Sours. Then had the Pulpo or octopus dish which was tasty. It was followed by our favorite Cebiche. I had the Mercado and my wife had the Classic. Our favorite Peruvian dishes. We tried the scallop appetizer which was OK. The final dish was a fried rice. Choose the Chaufa Aeropuerto. This dish was excellent with pork, and shrimp ingredients. The bowl was large enough to satisfy both of us.

We left very full.

We highly recommend this restaurant.

The manager went above and beyond to seat us, even though our party was larger than the reservation. He was gracious, accommodating and even brought us an appetizer. I was very impressed with the level of customer service and would definitely go back.

This was my second time at Tanta. I took my dad for his birthday and he loved it. I loved it all over again. Highly recommend the pollo al brasa, a lo pobre, and the llomo dish! Along with the el chingon drink, it’s like a spicy margarita yuuuum!

We were way early. Hostess said to give her a moment and sent us to the bar. She forgot about us. I had to re-promt as the restaurant was half full. Waitress took 10 minutes to then show up. Surprising as the restaurant is cool and humming. Waitress only takes the order. Food is delivered by bussing staff, who clear the table right in front of you, down to the separation of silverware and loudly. Food is far from transporting, mediocre at best. I am not sure how it has all these positive reviews. It could be the area of expensive restaurants serving meh food and that what people expect. Not me...siguiente

Great experience. Food overall was very good. A couple dishes could have used a bit more seasoning. Service was attentive in general, but server did disappear at times. Overall, i think it is 4.5 stars.

Food was underwhelming, outside of the chicken skewers.. nothing else really stood out on the menu. Wine selection wasn’t great and the service was average. I wouldn’t go back

One of my fave places to dine!! I have brought so many friends there for the first time including this visit. Friday night reservation so had to wait a little longer than usual but very friendly server! The ceviche (actual fish and sweet potato) tasted a little different than normal. I truly love this place. One of the best for peruvian and look forward to dining again!

Upscale Peruvian restaurant with positively incredible food and drink. The waitstaff was fantastic. The bar was humming. I can’t to return!

This was my second time at Tanta and the food was really good, like the last time. However, the service was below average. We were a group of four, sharing all the entrees and appetizers. The server forgot to include serving spoon every time. The server also did not do a good job of explaining the portion size and whether the items were sharable.

My favorite item was the ceviche sampler and the skewers (chicken and octopus).

We enjoyed an outstanding selection of ceviche, small plates and one entree. The service was impeccable, and the Pisco sour was almost as good as the ones we had in Lima. My only regret is that we did not have sufficient appetite to try more of the small plates. This is the third Gaston restaurant we have tried and we will look for others.

This is my go to restaurant in Chicago. Every time I go (twice a year) it is a new and better experience. Great cocktails, ceviche, sides and main dishes are perfect. Don't forget to get desert. Even the valet person was great.

I Love Tanta. The food is amazing and service is excellent. Drinks are also fabuloso.

There is loud and then really loud. The noise level in the dining room just way too loud to enjoy a meal with friends. Staff wear tee shirts not fitting of a quality restaurant.

The food was good. The Peruvian wine was interesting. The vibe was hipper than thou. A huge crush at the bar. A few too many big parties squeezed into the room. Mind numbingly loud.

My first experience was a winner! I loved the buzzy atmosphere and friendly service, and the food was exceptional. Start off with a Pisco Sour to set the mood, then dive in and experiment. Cannot wait until the rooftop opens. I'll be back!

Been here 4 times. I'm sure that I'll be back. Each time has been a unique full tour of the menu. Excellent Peruvian food. Well executed with lots of variety. Very good service, and room decor/ambience. Sound level permits conversation. Warning, prices are a little high across the board. But the James Beard pork belly tamal special at $32 took that to an unreasonable level especially for the portion size and was not as good as the rest of the menu. The pork belly was a bit dry (which shouldn't happen) and the tamal was a small puddle of grits/polenta like stuff.
chicken skewers and cebiche were good as was the arroz con mariscos. Regarding drinks, Paloma was good, but Caprihna was a disappointment and did not have muddled limes.

I liked Tanta! It’s a very vibrant and modern place! We ordered two entrees, however one of them (chicken with shrimp, noodles and egg) was very mediocre. I would still give it another try though, because the other plate (steak cubes with vegetables and dark sauce) was delicious.

Impressed. I had been wanting to go here for awhile, but needed to make a reservation! We would normally just be downtown and try to get in, but it's busy every night it seems. For good reason, everything we ordered for the table, everybody loved, including the drinks. The server also made great recommendations on the menu. Will definitely be back, with a reservation :)
