Tartine Manufactory - San Francisco
What Insiders Are Saying
Tartine Manufactory in the Mission is a huge operation with excellent pastries, coffee, and ice cream, and dinner as well.
From the moment the drink arrived, I knew I was going to enjoy the meal. Everything was prepared meticulously and tasted fantastic. Really enjoyed the meal, and of course, the bread.
Amazing restaurant experience. Hostess who led us to the table acted a bit rude, but the waiter who served us did a great job. There was so much thought in every dish brought out and the Denver steak was amazing. Booked another reservation in 2 weeks.
Even though we had a reservation for 8pm (a bit later than what we hoped for, given we had somewhere to go at 9pm), we were not seated until 8:20pm. The host just said it was not in his control and we weren't even offered any glass of wine or bread even while we waited, with another 2 couples in the exact same situation!!
The portions were smaller than expected. Also, for being such a famous bakery, I was surprised not to get even a slice of their delicious bread with my pasta. That said, the food was delicious and I will definitely be going back—the above just would’ve been good to know beforehand.
Much like. Very yum.
Great cocktails. Great service. Amazing meal. Will definitely be coming back.
SUPERB FOOD, WENT THERE LAST SATURDAY AND BACK AGAIN, GREAT SERVICE, AMAZING INNOVATIVE MENU, COULD GO AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK!!!!
I’ve had many great meals at Tartine Manufactory, but on July 5th, the meal was not up their usual standards. Dessert, was, as usual, very good.
Food was innovative, but not fussy. Fresh combination of ingredients were a nice balance of healthful and comfort food. The spiced lentils with duck carnitas were outstanding! Very knowledgeable staff, and great wine recommendations.
Manufactory continues to be one of my top 3 faves in the City. Food is always wonderful. And this time one of the line chefs was willing and able to talk with me at some length about my baking questions. Can't recommend the place enough!
Love Tartine! Amazing ingredients, thoughtful preparation, great atmosphere, solid service make for an exceptional experience — every time.
What an awesome place. Great food, great service and great everything :-). Can't wait to go back.
The bread is great, but beyond that, we had a pretty bad experience. The food was mediocre at best, but the service was awful. Issues included: our drink order (placed with our food), came after our apps had come and gone, and our mains were on the table for 10 minutes. We ordered a non-alcohol drink for a member of our party who doesn't drink (8 years now), and got a (totally different) alcoholic drink. And it took 5 minutes of me craning my neck and sitting almost backwards in my seat to get wait staff attention to get this corrected....and then ANOTHER 10 minutes for the correct drink to come. Generally I am pretty understanding about service issues, and prefer to cut wait staff plenty of slack here; but the restaurant was at 50% capacity max at 5:30 on a Sunday night, and our service people clearly just didn't care about getting it right. We were eating with a gift card we got as a present, so i wasn't so annoyed about the service/cost ratio, but had that been a meal I was paying for out of pocket, I would have been very upset about the quality of food and service.
Our 35th wedding Anniversary and decided to spend it here. The food was good, surpassed by the BREAD, which is amazing. Easy to have conversation and nice mixed drinks.
Food was very underwhelming for the price. It feels like a place that can use their brand name to get out of making quality food and having quality service. Our waitress had a ton of tables so she paid little attention to us and the host was dismissive.
After many months if saying we just go...we finally went! The food was incredible and the flavours suit my pallet perfectly! Our servicer was just the right amount...overall...we’ll worth the wait!
Delicious food with special combinations. The bread is amazing! Good wine choices too.
Excellent meal, and very affordable for the quality + quantity of food. The octopus and steak were both particularly amazing!
Duck was excellent, staff engaging and service was terrific! Bread is the best ever!
We LOVED Tartine Manufactory! All the dishes were tasty and the cocktails were incredible. Our server, Ryan was also on his A game and made sure we had a great experience. We will definitely return to the restaurant!
excellent food, service was a little slow, but very nice and helpful.
Food was great! Very unique and diverse menu. Great wine list. Service was a little slow and not very engaging.
Hands down the best meal I have had in a long time. The mushroom tartine and the bread and butter AND the goat cheese put us over the edge bc we were so excited about it... could hardly eat the last three items we ordered. Huge portions! Can’t recommend enough.
The food and drinks are truly exceptional. Service was perfect.
We started with the bread and butter, which is amazing on its own, and added the beet hummus which took it to new levels! Then we had the five spice duck which had so many tiers of flavor that I could have been happy to eat the whole thing by myself. It was followed by the pork chop, best I have ever had with delicious greens and the grilled octopus, meaty and tender with a spicy sauce to accompany them. We ended on a sweet note with a lovely cheesecake with blueberry compote. All was cooked perfectly and more than the sum of its parts, just wonderful. The service was friendly and efficient, and the industrial space is quite charming. Highly recommend!
The Gem salad was amazing. I LOVED the sardine lemon dressing. Tops. The smoked pork chop entree was tasty but not especially tender. And the penne with cauliflower so so. The cheesecake with black currants was divine. The grapefruit gin cocktail was outstanding, as was the service. I would have been happy with just the salad, bread and cocktail. And it goes without saying that the fresh bread (I can’t remember which one we had) but it was a dark brown bread slathered with sesame seeds.
The host was incredibly rude. We arrived at 8:45 for an 8:30p reservation and were told to wait until “they had a table for us”. I guess they don’t know how to manage their restaurant and keep reservation times. Unfortunately this place has gone downhill since first opening and small things like this combined with the disgusting restroom will keep us from ever returning.
The food and ambience at Tartine Manufactory are terrific. The menu is extremely creative and everything is delicious. My one complaint is that the place is just too noisy. Nice energy from all the many diners but that in combination with music being pumped from somewhere is just too much. Makes having a simple conversation a real challenge.
The food was fantastic. Service could have been a bit more attentive. We would definitely return.
One always forgets just what a gem this is. With something new and hip opening daily, this continues to produce not just amazing quality, but inspired cuisine. And of equal importance, incredibly interesting cocktails. Such a great spot. Wish I could have a meal plan.
The beet hummus is quite literally to die for. I realistically could've just eaten that + the sourdough and been the happiest little clam in the deep blue sea.
Food and service are exceptional. Prices however are a bit high for what is to be casual dining.
The food was excellent. The ambience was excellent. The waitress was the worst I’ve ever seen... she let the runners and bus staff tend to her tables while she went MIA for 45 minutes. After asking someone else for the check, she literally slung it at us and disappeared again. After getting the bus person to give our check with the credit card to he to run, she took an obscene amount of time with my Amex just to find out she ran it for the wrong check and then tried to blame it on the bus person which was super tacky. Other than that, we loved everything about it.
Drinks were over the top delicious, and the bread is reason alone to come here. I took my parents to dinner and it was quite loud, but we tried to talk over the noise and had a wonderful time. Very young and hip vibes!
Great bread of course! Octopus was too salty, and the beet hummus was a bad value given that it doesn’t come with bread. Cocktails were great!
The food and cocktails were excellent. I recommend dinner over brunch, only because I think the brunch is overrated (imho) and I don't like long waits. Make a reservation and there's no wait! And get the steak tartare because it's amazing!
As a note, don't bother putting in whether you're dining for a special occasion–they don't do anything with that info. I was there for my birthday, but there was zero acknowledgment of it.
The food is good but the portions are insanely small and overpriced and way too precious. Beautiful space, but not a good value at all.
Food was great as always but we waited for over 30 minutes despite having a booking. There were mix ups with drinks and in general the service really let down the chefs work.
They were not able to honor the reservation time inspite of us being prompt. We had to go check after 15 mins and ask and only then we were seated. Service was spotty, the hostess wasn’t particularly friendly nor helpful and the food was mediocre. Not sure what the hype about this place is all about.
