   Was very surprised there were no people at the opening of dinner hour---5:00pm. We were the first and only people for quite a while. I considered this very mysterious because it was Memorial Day weekend. True, there may've been a lot of people BBQ-ing at home since the weather was warm and beautiful, but TBD...Hawaii is located in a hotel; albeit not a large hotel, but even then.... Vikram Garg, the former executive chef left a few months ago to start his own restaurant, and currently, there is no "permanent" chef. Perhaps that may've been a major reason. Also, currently, there is only a "Bar + Lounge" menu consisting of small plates---no entrees. The small plates we ordered, the Maine Crab Cakes and Prime Skirt Steak were more on the salty side, but were cooked well. The Garlic + Furikake fries could've used more furikake. However, all in all, the food was good. The cocktails were also nice. The Manager, Julie, came by to ask how we were doing and our server, James, rated 5/5 for service, attentiveness, friendliness and efficiency. Julie said they would probably have a "permanent chef" and new menu before September. I look forward to it.

   To start off - the restaurant has a really nice ambiance, it appears on our stay at the hotel that the restaurant is maybe struggling a bit , I understood they have had a lot of changes . The staff was very nice/ drinks good, food was good , could use some tweaking. I have worked in the food and beverage industry and did so for over 20 yrs , worked for the w hotel/fours seasons / and other high end. I have also worked in other types of restaurants- I’ve done it all . That being said , I think the staff in restaurant could use more training before serving guests , lack of knowledge of the menu food and drinks. Could be better prepared for the guests / and the restaurant needs more options of food and nonalcoholic drinks. Odd not to have ice tea in hotel restaurant, especially a warm climate . Other than that it was good just think it could be better . Maybe it would attract more people. Wish the restaurant success

   The only reason the ratings are lower is because they are in between chefs. We made dinner reservations, not expecting to only be able to order from a limited bar menu.

   Upscale bar food menu. Everyone will find something to love. Most people will love everything. Very delicious. Good wine selection too. And the service and friendliness is superior. I would give them 6 stars if that was an option.

   Enjoyed a breezy late afternoon HH with a couple of cocktails over looking Kapiolani park and watching cars go back and forth searching for park parking. Filled up on yummy arugula salad, main crab cakes, and Australian Wagyu 'french onion' sliders. Imbibed Dew we or Don't we and Mi amigo Jorge cocktails.

   The whole experience was fabulous , from the easy parking, up the graceful curved staircase, into the lovely restaurant, to the exquisite food and service. Drinks are also terrific! Highly recommend for dates, actually for any occasion, small or large groups. Small plates to share- gastronomic delights. 👍 try!!

    It was our first time staying at the Lotus and visiting TBD for dinner. Chef Bryan was friendly and prepared amazing food. Our server, Shannon was outstanding and attentive. Bartender manager Brian lacked aloha spirit, particularly when it comes to Hawaiian hospitality. As a Kamaʻāina, back in the islands for a visit, his arrogant attitude was disappointing.

    The BEST night ever. The food, the service, the experience, the view … top notch. Even the bartender had specialty drinks and techniques we never had. Highly highly recommended. They change chefs periodically so that’s why the TBD but ours was super. Everything we had was so special. Loved it and eating overlooking Diamond Head was a bonus.

    My girlfriend and I went here tonight for a special occasion. Everything was perfect. From the greeting we received at the front to our table setting and our excellent server to the sommelier. Each dish was like a work of art, and tasted even better than we could have imagined. We really couldn’t get enough of it. We loved every coarse and every bite of this meal, which is rare for two of us ….we eat out so often, and often at fine dining establishments…so we have very discerning palettes. We appreciate all styles of cuisine and there are lots of great options in Honolulu……but to find everything in one place is a rare gem and this place is that rare gem.

    Gourmet experience in every respect. Delicious set menu with some "standards" (duck confit) and wonderful creations (lobster cappuccino with cognac cream and foie gras with strawberry gelee). Lounge menu is a bit eclectic, but has some nice items (e.g., flat bread) that pair well with the set menu. Good wine list. Service was great--high level.

    My second time dining at TBD..., my first time experience was ala carte Oct 2021. Prix fixe menu Valentine's week—the taste and preparation of dishes was very good; the value was very good. However, I returned for a... fantastical experience. My first time eating/savoring (+ surprisingly joyful the service! Never in my life did I want a server to return to check on the table again and again) (I trailed off)... my first time eating there, the whole experience took me beyond the limits of what I expected, much less what I could ever describe in a review. I can say that this was exceptional food and great service. We had a lot of privacy and their bar is the only one I know of that has Pisco in HNL. TBD... is amazing.

    Over the last couple of years I've dined at TBD a dozen times or so. It's my go-to special occasion restaurant. The room is beautiful and kindly lit. The bar area is inviting and super-cool. We've always had good service here but this last visit was a stand out. We have one diner with a food allergy and they have always been very helpful and accommodating. We'd made a note in the reservation and the waiter was fully aware and informed about the ingredients of each dish. Chef goes out of his way to make you feel welcome in this regard, not always the case in most restaurants. Rather than just leave off a sauce or side dish, he adapted some things to keep the meal special. I was especially impressed with the dessert. It was meringue based and he redesigned it into a non-dairy version. What a treat! For all these reasons and more I will keep coming to TBD for special occasions or just when I want a thoughtful, delicious meal, beautifully served.

    The signature style of TBD is marked by creativity and originality. I have never had fois gras combined with fruit gelee (an amazing marriage of flavors) with a sesame crumble topping (adding crunch for texture that enhanced the flavor). The fois gras itself was like creamy butter. I was also pleasantly surprised by the abalone, a dish that I rarely see on a restaurant menu. The texture was perfectly chewy, and every bite was flavorful. The abalone was served on a bed of creamy risotto with a sprinkle of crunchy macadamia nuts. I didn't want it to end. The duck leg a l'orange with pureed potatoes was elevated comfort food. For dessert, the pavlova was a delightful way to end the TBD food experience. The combination of passion fruit creaminess (tart and sweet), crunchy meringue, and explosion of cold fruit caviar was genius. I also like that the food was served as if choreographed, with multiple servers delivering food simultaneously to the entire table. I can't wait to go back!

    Highly recommend this restaurant. We chose the dining room with the 4 course meal and a little surprise at the end. We also chose the wine pairing option. Best dining experience in a long time. The restaurant is elegant without being pretentious. Casual elegance. The staff is outstanding. Warm, friendly, knowledgeable and yet so professional. Our server Haley and Sommelier Taro (with the help of others) were wonderful. Taro did an excellent job pairing the dishes with the wines. Every dish was beautifully presented and we were all raving about the sometime unexpected flavors. Dishes like the lobster cappuccino, foie gras torchon, salmon rillette are not familiar territory to us but mind blowing!! We couldn't stop talking about this wonderful meal. An overall amazing wonderful dining experience. We're already talking about coming back for more. Thank you chef and staff.

    The small dining room was wonderful, though the high ceiling made it a little difficult to hear the servers at times. The food was a joy to look at and a pleasure to eat. While most of the dishes were outstanding, a couple were only very good in our opinion. The salmon or was it ahi appetizer tasted a bit like tuna salad on shrimp chips said one friend; the pate in gelee was great, but the smoothness of the pate took away from the dish; while the gravy that came with the duck confit was to die for, and the duck perfectly cooked and deboned, the duck itself was strangely lacking in flavor. The wine pairings were great and reasonably priced. We immensely enjoyed everything else--the caviar frites, the cauliflower velote, the seared ahi, the beef entree, the chocolate mousse, the napoleon dessert and the pavlova. The service was excellent. The DJ who started playing in the lounge at 7pm was a little intrusive, but we were finished by 7:20. Beautiful venue, great parking. Will save up our money to go again.
