The Bull Valley Roadhouse
The Bull Valley Roadhouse serves American roadhouse food prepared from scratch with century-old techniques using fresh ingredients from our favorite small farms. A beacon at the end of a canyon road in the historic dock town of Port Costa, the roadhouse welcomes locals, travelers and adventurous day-trippers alike in its 1897 landmark dining room and bar. Stepping into the saloon-like rooms, guests can sense more than 100 years of hospitality. The proprietors strive to maintain that warm tradition and leave everyone feeling relaxed, well fed and eager to return. Look for us under the golden bull.
Sunday brunch served from 10:30 am through 2:00 pm.
Hidden Gem.. SHHH we shouldn't tell anyone about this place because we want it all to ourselves. BUT it's amazing, staff is super sweet, food is amazing and changes ALL the time, and ambiance, well, if you love old you'll love this place. It's all about the 20's (except everyone bathes and there's no foul smells) and the food is ON POINT. But please don't tell anyone, because we want this place all to ourselves!
After four visits here I think this is now my favorite destination (sort of staycation) restaurant. A beautiful drive, an understated town, cool dive bar across the street, eclectic ambiance and literally the most delicious food (with great service). Not much more I could ask for. If you’ve never been you have to give this a try. It’s a very special experience all around.
I love bullvalley road house, but in my trip this time around service was subpar :( sever didn't really check on us and other staff just wasn't that friendly. A little disappointing
We love this spot! Food and service are always on point....
Excellent brunch! So good that it was my second visit in 2 weeks. Start with the buttermilk biscuits, you won’t be disappointed!
Enjoy sharing all of the delicious foods!
Great food, a bit ecpensive.
The food was absolutely delicious!
We had appetizers, 4 main entrees and couple desserts. The service was right on! BullValley has the best bar too. Many different choices of drinks.
BullValley is a wonderful dining place! Can’t wait to go there again.
Bull Valley never disappoints! The staff is always great, the food delicious, and it's an adventure to go to Port Costa!
Overall great experience. Although I was a little shocked to see a cat sitting in the restaurant at the front window.
food is amazing! Drinks are strong. A hidden gem that’s worth the drive.
Hummm. If you are going to read this, get your self a nice drink, as it may go long..
I discovered this place from a newspaper review, which was very favorable..
Made the reservation through Open Table, which may have caused us to get a bit better table, looking out on the main street. Going to Port Costa kind of traveling to an out of the way location. You turn off Highway 4 and head into the rolling hills. The roadway is windy and narrow. This resembles the back roads in the Sierra's. It is a 4 mile trip to town. Port Costa has a population of maybe 200 and is set back in the 1850's. The building that the restaurant is in looks exactly like every other building in the area. Run down...You can distinguish the restaurant by the gold bull on the sidewalk. You know you have arrived at the restaurant as it is the only place in town with a lot of cars nearby.
You order any dish and there is enough served to handle two diners. All the food is very good. The service was excellent. My wife and I shared the mac & cheese and the fried chicken. My wife had tea and I had coffee. Both beverages were served in insulated presses. The beverages were hot throughout the meal. I had a glass of wine and we shared desert.
Would highly recommend for the adventure and the food.
Food was fabulous. A rustic environment. Very pleasant evening.
A bit pricey but worth every penny. The only drawback is the windy road getting there, otherwise a surberb dining expeience, romantic, cozy, unique eclectic decor, consistantly good food. Been to Roadhouse for many special occasions. Will definately return.
Arrived early. They seated our group early. Wait staff did a great job, attentive but not overbearing. Entrees were very slow to arrive at the table, but anticipated this as we saw previous reviews. Wish we would have had an extra appetizer to help with the wait though. Brussels sprouts and pork were almost too salty, chicken was great. We enjoyed ourselves and want to try again.
We are ‘regulars’ and with good reason! It’s just simply the best! Great food! We have been dreaming of the bucatini all day! Service was excellent as always! It’s quite loud, but it doesn’t matter! The food is insanely good!
We've been going to The Warehouse in Port Costa for a couple years now, but have not really tried anywhere else in town, but a friend of mine was raving about the Sunday brunch at Bull Valley. So , we decided to try it out, and am I glad we did. We made reservations, which may not be entirely necessary, but I'm glad we did. Upon arrival, the friendly hostess escorted us to a nice little nook in the main dining room, which was bustling and a bit on the loud side. The noise didn't bother me, but my girlfriend had a bit of trouble with it.
Immediately upon sitting we were offered water and brought the oh-so-hot towels--great touch! Our friendly server took our drink orders, Bloody Marys, of course. The drinks were excellent! Ready to order, we chose the Fried Brussels Sprouts, Chicken and Waffles and Biscuits and Gravy. Talk about a savory treat. The Brussels sprouts were evenly browned and crispy, tossed in lemon and sprinkled with a Parmesan-like cheese. It took everything we had not to devour these before the rest of the meal arrived. I am glad I paced myself because the Chicken and Waffles came out next, and they were everything I want Chicken and Waffles to be- a light and airy Belgian waffle accompanied by a perfectly browned Leg and boneless breast all drizzled with a light honey syrup. Soooo Goooood. At this point, I knew we were headed for a food coma, but I didn't care because the biscuits and gravy came out next and wow! The savory, herb infused gravy perfectly complimented the chicken while the flaky biscuits just melted in my mouth. I couldn't have asked for better drinks, food, or service.
We will absolutely be back!
Spent the weekend starting with a fabulous birthday dinner for 15 on Saturday night and brunch for 13 Sunday morning after a stay over at their Burlington Hotel next door. It was a magical weekend... the food is the BEST!
Claire was a delight!
The staff and restaurant were both part of what this an amazing experience! Not to mention, the food was delicious!
The “shareable” plate portion size was a hit or miSs. Unfortunately, we missed, and three sides with salmon and rib as our shareable entrees wasn’t enough.
It was my wife’s birthday so we went here for our date. The food was great and the service was amazing. It gets very loud when everyone comes in and the chair and seating was the only bad part. Other then that the place is worth going to.
I would only recommend the breakfast on the weekends or just have a couple unique drinks. The dinner isn't enough to share and is really expensive for the amount of food you get. Our server started off good and then got busy or... When she came to check on us we had stacked the plates to give ourselves room, she didn't take the plates and left us again. Overall, I wouldn't be back for dinner. The menu doesn't change either which is a bummer.
Amazing every time!! Lil hidden gem of port costa!! The service is always amazing and the food is to die for.
Great food and experience. The old fashioned was one of the best I’ve had. Fried chicken was outstanding. Really loved the Brussel sprouts as well. Port costa is a fun place to check out and bull valley roadhouse is a must! Very unique place with outstanding food and service we will be back
We were so positively impressed by the service and food. I can’t wait to return!
Good food as always. Wish they would switch up the menu a bit sometimes....have specials maybe? Drinks on point as usual.
My wife's favorite Bay Area eatery........many memoraiable meals since they opened their doors in Port Costa!
It is a great surprise to find that the food in this out of the way "roadhouse" is excellent. They have a small wine list of very intelligently selected and reasonably priced items. The bar prepares excellent cocktails. The only downside is that the restaurant is often full and as a result can be quite noisy.
Dinner with friends
A fun excursion to Port Costa to celebrate a 50th birthday. Our whole group had fun and enjoyed the variety of the tasting menu. Highly recommended if looking for something a little different.
There were a few hiccups in the service (too long to bring our cocktails, then it was the wrong item) but the errors were handled very well by the Manager. The food was excellent! Will definitely return!
My fiancé and always go here to celebrate important events. The service it’s great and the service it’s very good!
It is consistency the best food and experience in the east bay. The qualiy of the food is remarkable. Simply delicious!
Still the best!! The only complaint - Irish Coffee was a little watered-down, but replaced!
Ex-Slanted Door chef and bartenders. Front-to-back the best meal you'll ever have!
Always great service and tasty dishes. Prices a bit high for location.
Overall this was a good experience with great service and good food. The food would have been great but the pork chop was stringy and the scalloped potatoes were too greasy and salty. The large pieces of fresh rosemary in the potatoes added flavor but the rosemary leaves were a little tough to chew on and there was too much of it. The honey ice cream was delicious and the decaf coffee was fresh which not many restaurants manage to do.
Cocktails were great. Because the menu is served "family style", there was a hodge-podge of dishes and not enough of any one thing to serve everyone at the table. Main dishes came before side dishes, and the dishes were on the smallish side. We ordered scallop potatoes that didn't come until everyone was finished eating. All together, underwhelming.
Always love coming here and introducing this gem to friends. The food is consistent and the cocktails oh so yummy!
We took my brother and his wife here for his Christmas gift and had a wonderful evening. Bull Valley never disappoints. Lost Costa cocktail is my new favorite libation in the world. Honestly if I didn't have to drive the windy road out, I would have had 4!! The salmon melted in my mouth and the smoked pork chop was to die for. The brussel sprouts and potatoes are simply sinful. Bull Valley and quirky Port Costa are perfect for date night, family night, birthday, anniversary etc. Make a reservation - you won't be sorry.
Great service and very attentive staff. Food was very good. The atmosphere was very comforting . Our experience was outstanding.
