The Chinese Library
What a yummy experience.
We wanted to go somewhere special, romantic, classic, this place filled all the gaps.
Chinese Library is such an outstanding place with great staff and tasty, very tasty food.
They have re-invented traditional dishes into modern creative presentations but still preserving the base.
I rarely give an across-the-board 5-star review (maybe the first time?), but this place was just outstanding. The dining room is gorgeous, perfectly lit and dramatic. The service was very attentive and the staff well-informed. Loved every dish we tried, from filet of chicken with Sichuan peppers, crispy aubergine w/ shrimps and string beans, beef shin w/ sesame, BBQ pork loin w/ honey (AMAZING). Very special place and will most certainly have a repeat visit on my next trip to HK. Located at the old Police Headquarters--really cool new entertainment complex in Central. Nice!
Ambience was great and staff was very attentive. However, food was a bit too much in a way that it had too much conflicting tastes. Maybe about the preference but I’d prefer to have basic dim sum options as well
This restaurant is amazing. It’s a bit pricey but with the adventure.the room was gorgeous. The service and food were impeccable. Unfortunately, due to the local protests, there were only four tables. 5 stars.
One of the Best Chinese restaurants in Hong Kong ! Amazing food & friendly and professional staffs.
My experience at The Chinese Library was extraordinary. I was looking for a nice venue to have Chinese food and this place surpassed my expectations.
I'm very happy to have spend the night in such a nice restaurant with really delicious food and a very nice environment.
My family and I had the Pekin Duck and it was better than we expected.
For the food and decoration/ambiance, everything Ok..., the problem comes with the service, we were a table of two and all service in relation with us was was almost zero, like invisible people. BUT we had two large tables around us, and at least three waiters fully assigned to each of the table, then you can guess why we felt so miserable....
Food and ambience was great. Waitress was rude, she was very unfriendly and had issues with one of our party turning up late. She rushed the food orders and it felt like she was trying to get rid of us.
I was very embarrassed as I had organised the dinner for a birthday and my previous experience was great
The air con system makes the food cold quickly after being served. Either the vents need to be otherwise dispersed, or some kind of umbrella over the table, shielding the food would make sense. But as it is, it does not make sense for us to return. It should be said that the service was fantastic. The staff were very very good. And the food was good.
Food and ambiance at this restaurant are incredible, the setting in Tai Kwun and historical relevance coupled with the service, food quality make this a special experience. Highly recommended.
Attentive service. It was a nice Chinese/Western food experience. A nice surprise for an upscale establishment.
Elegant surroundings, clean, simple, tasty Chinese cuisine....... and great cocktails, the perfect recipe for a fun night out.
Excellent restaurant and overall experience. Beautiful interior. Good music & audience.
Only wish is that the wines would be kept at 16-18 degrees instead of +20. Will come back!
It a great place to dine if you happen to be in Tai Kwun. Highly recommended.
A little pricey but the food is good. Nice menu, a slight twist from the usual dim sum and Chinese restaurant menu.
Food very good but service slow despite restaurant was not fully booked. And found it more expensive than I had expected...
The Chinese Library offers a very luxurious setting for a meal, with spacious seating and impressive decor. The food can be exquisitely presented, with the chrysanthemum thousand-cut silken tofu soup and the whole Macau sole particularly well-done. The service, while extremely amiable, could perhaps be just a tad more well-coordinated: there were many people, but it didn't always seem that they knew who was doing what, and it could sometimes be surprisingly difficult to get someone's attention.
i would like visit one more time
See you soon ^^
The best meal we’ve had in Hong Kong! And a very swanky dining room. Be sure to order the iberico pork dish with cashews and dragon fruit – you will not be disappointed!
Had a great meal - first day in Hong Kong and we picked this and were happy with our choice. Restaurant room was very nice and appealing. Some items on the menu not clear but we had a great waiter - Billy who took pride in walking us through and explaining. We ordered the tiger skin and aubergine to start - both quite unusual but delicious- followed by the wagyu beef rice, the spicy chicken and the amazing flaming lamb chops which had amazing flavour. The complimentary dessert was also good made of tofu it tasted like pannacotta. Thanks Billy for looking after us!
The service is very bad, not much of smile from them.
Ask for bowls n they forget had to ask again.
I had to top up tea for my guests.
No answer from them when we said thank you during serving.
After I sign the check (without a tip of cause) there was not a word.
At 2:45pm when we leave no one usher us out, I did their job.... I open the door for ourselves.
Seriously, I think you people don't know what you are doing.
Great food, service. Love the decoration. Must try the dessert
Excellent dishes, especially those dishes with a lot of knife skills. Incredible.
Delicious food, friendly staff, good mood
I cannot help but make a recommendation.
The atmosphere is nice, foods are good. The serving was bit late, but the server name Sonia was really kind. Will visit again.
great service, beautiful cocktails, really nice food
and the venue is stunning
will return most definitely
I recently had lunch here with an out-of-towner friend, which was also my third visit to this premise. As always, I had a great time, although the overall food quality seemed to have gone down slightly since its opening last year (I hope they can bounce back soon). They gifted me with a surprise birthday message during the dessert service, which added a nice touch.
Amazing from start to finish!
Nice deco but poor service. Food is average. The famous Peking duck is not as good as expected.
My server Loida give me the best memory I can’t unforgetable. It was amazing expereince in HK. I will be def. back once I visit HK.
The pecking duck comes with almost skin only which is quite disappointing. The rest of the food was very good. The service was nice but they did a mess with the dessert and I didn’t feel they were quite sorry about it. The most annoying think is that when they followed up with a courtesy WhatsApp 2 days later I gave the feedback and it felt to me that they were just interested in a future booking rather than hearing the issue.
A very pleasant dim sum experience on this public holiday Monday. Very nice range of dim sum favourites accompanied by free-flow champagne.
Nice lunch overall, beautiful setting. The food was a little oily but we are tempted to give it another go and order differently. The service could have been a little sharper throughout.
The setting is unusual but stunning, the service was absolutely excellent and the food was the same! I’d highly recommend anyone to go! And have a cheeky cocktail before or after at the Dispensary! Very good!!
Our second time at this restaurant and this time we came with friends; a much better decision as we could sample more of the menu! Once again the service was outstanding with great suggestions by our waiter for a selection of appetisers. Can't recommend this place highly enough.
Food quality surely met our expectations , with a remarkable traditional pekin’duck served with not-by-the-book sauces, which added an appreciated twist to this dish. Environment is elegant, comformatble, classy. Need to mention the service (Nina): it's rare to find so much friendly discretion and professional attitude at the same time. A place to try again soon.
We had a lovely evening at the Chinese Library- Nina took great care of us. We celebrated my mother‘s birthday are happy with our choice to spend an evening here!
My guest was surprised that you do not have crispy noodle in your menu.
The staff were unfriendly ( but to be fair efficient) from the start. We chose the tasting menu and the first two courses were good but after that pretty average. When we paid the bill, we paid by pre-loaded currency card and asked for it to be taken in HK dollars ( as if you pay in sterling you would pay for the conversion) On signing the chit we asked if the transaction had been done in HKD and the waiter said yes. When we checked the card two days later we saw that the transaction had been done in US Dollars so not only were we charged for converting the amount into US dollars, we had to pay to convert the US dollars back into sterling. So not very happy - wouldn’t recommend the place
