We enjoyed the bread appetizer and the hanger steak. The wine recommendation was good; the crispy potatoes were excellent. The country music selection did not fit the crowd (unfortunately the entire record was played instead of a mix) and was played too loud to enjoy an "inside voices" conversation with our friends. Overall, great food and hit or miss music rotation.

We don’t go out much since the pandemic, so when we do, it’s a special occasion. I had read how the Exchange had a Japanese’s Style Listening room which was just some vintage speakers with the covers off over the bar. The building is beautiful. The restaurant itself ok. Mac and cheese was an entree but it was the size of a side dish. Hangar steak was raw inside- I didn’t want to wait to ask them to cook it longer, so I brought most of it home. Overall flavor of the entree wasn’t that appealing. Food didn’t arrive very warm. Bread and butter were the highlight of the evening, but we had to specifically ask for some.I would rather have tried somewhere else.

What a fun location, with more to come. Amazing how they transformed the environment. A great vibe. The food is superb, minimal but great choices. Accommodating and super friendly service. Anxious to see what the future holds. Love the music (wow! the speakers! It was, perhaps, a bit too loud)

The food is okay, service was a little slow but that's probably because of understaffing, not thr server's fault. It's a beautiful building, but the restaurant itself is just a room off the main lobby. They played classic rock on the turntables, which was good, but overall, just an okay meal, nothing special.

Food, service and warm Listening Room vibe are outstanding. Our second time dining at The Listen Room at The Exchange, lucky to have Savannah as a server both times - lovely, attentive and provides expert input on the seasonal and other menu offerings. The entire first floor of The Railway Exchange building has undergone a stunning transformation, almost like getting a free architectural tour bonus with your visit. Only suggestion relayed to the establishment: our group of 5 was seated near the Michigan Avenue entrance, please add a protected entry canopy outside before colder weather. The startling blast of air from the open door blew items off our table each time (or have entry only through The Exchange main entrance a bit further north). Overall another exceptional visit to this lovely new restaurant, can't wait for the additional venues to open in the lobby.

The restaurant needs to add an option to select to be seated in the Listening Room. We were not and left after a drink because there was no way to specify.

The ambience is lovely, the music thru high-end speakers is a wonderful playlist, but we wish it was not quite so loud. Tables are nice and large, which was a welcome change from so many restaurants. Food was excellent, though quantities, such as for the Autumn salad, was small ($16 and no protein). My tofu was also on the smaller side (I would suggest 25% more), though the chicken thigh dish, was lovely and the right amount. Our server was lovely, but somewhat overly busy...it took 10 minutes till she was ready to take our order, and she was rarely where we could get her attention....her skills were otherwise great.

Hostess forgot all about us waiting for our seats - yes we had reservations. Also, we were told that the main area would be open for dinner service but it was not. Only the two bar areas. We ended up in the Japanese listening room. It was much better than the first time when music was loud we could not hear each other talking. Buratta, tomato and reshape bread appetizer as well as the chopped salad were fantastic. The walleye and chicken thighs were very good. The pasta was cold and tasteless.

This will be an excellent restaurant. The staff is excellent. Everyone is friendly and really works hard. They are still getting the kinks out. Our drinks and most of the dinner came at the same time! Bread...which was outstanding....came at the very end of the dinner. The food however, was very good and given that we are on Michigan Avenue, a fair value.

Looking forward to the next time I can get downtown and enjoy the delicious cocktails, wine and food. Also, the service was genuine and a delight. The space is simply stunning and sets a great mood for a night out.

Arrived at 6 before 8pm symphony. Told waiter who assured us it would be no problem. Entrees arrived at 7:50 and included completely raw potatos and bleeding rare steak (ordered medium). One of the worst meals I’ve ever been served on top of the completely subpar service. This place is hopefully short for this world.

This is a really promising new addition to the neighborhood. The bar is a little too well lit/bright for an intimate dinner, but the decor in the rest of the restaurant is inviting and great for date night. The wine list is small, but interesting and has reasonable options for most palates and budgets. The big disappointment was the food, or at least the value for money. A $32 entree (Halibut) should be impeccable but it was bland and not well proportioned (too many beans). The tofu was in an interesting sauce, but also didn't deliver. The bread, their signature, was delicious and the highlight of the meal. The menu is very limited, it'd be nice to see some smaller plates which may reduce the sticker shock ($170 for two with tip). There is definitely potential, and we intend giving it another try. The food and overall experience needs some polish if they want to charge these prices with the dining mecca of the West Loop right on their doorstep.

Wonderful meal. The people at the table next to us told us to get the carrots, which we did. Friends had gone there and said to get the bread, the harvest salad, and the brussel sprounts -- all of which were absolutely delicious. Great vibe, wonderful food and great service. Would go there again.

The Exchange is a hidden gem on Michigan Ave. The restaurant is cozy and the service is impeccable. Our waitress shared her favorites with us and we ordered the spicy tequila grapefruit drink, burrata snd heirloom tomatoes, chicken thighs, macaroni and cheese and blueberry dessert. We enjoyed everything snd can’t wait to go back as they are opening a bar in the atrium called Theos today!

One of Chicago's new treasures. Great experiential to taste and smell (food), hearing (music), and sight (people around me). This is an awesome place and my new favorite for drinks and food. The staff is very friendly and professional. If you are headed to The Art Institute or Symphony Hall this is a must stop. Where else to see the "awesomeness" of Daniel Burnham architecture!!

I arrived early and was seated at the bar. It took a long time to be greeted and get a drink. When my party arrived we ordered drinks and never got them. No one came back for a food order. When we wanted to leave he said he didn’t have a bill. I live very close by and even during Covid you can be treated better elsewhere.

The meal started out fine; good drink, nice salad. But then we waited for our entrees and wine (which never came) for much too long. The waiter was aware that we needed to finished in 90 minutes. We finally had to ask for our meals and finally they showed up. Then we were charged for the wine we didn’t get, so more delays. No apology from server.. not for overcharging us, or the fact that we didn’t have time to eat more than half our dinner.limited gluten free choice- halibut or a steak. No gluten free starter except olives. Hopefully, The Exchange will get it’s act together, but I’d skip it for now.

Sleeper hits like the vegetable soup and spicy tofu were the stars of the meal, honestly some of the best bites we’ve had in a long time, and we go out to eat frequently and my husband works in the industry. The menu is extremely limited and the quality of the food varies. The halibut was overcooked but the chicken thighs and kale salad were delicious. The price was way out of line for all. The hostess, waitress and the people cleaning tables were all outstanding, and the wait time for being seated and served was perfect.
