Waiter was very Gliebe. Bartender never engaging with customer even when prompted. Food. Need to learn other to cook a filet Pittsburgh rare on cast iron. Waiter and bartender actions could have been corrected with 20 seconds of being genuine. $250+ for dinner for two. We could have gone to Bones.
I took my girlfriend to the Federal in the hopes of having a wonderful dining experience for Valentine's Day. I made reservations for 7pm, and we arrived around 6:40. We were informed that our table was not ready and to come back to the host stand around 7. We were seated around 7:15 and probably waited another 10-15 minutes before our server even took our drink orders. We ordered the French Onion Oxtail soup for an appetizer and it was fantastic. We then ordered our entrees, my date ordered the Swordfish and I had the lamb chop. Both were great. However, right after we ordered our entrees, our waitress asked if she could have our menus because they did not have any more for the other guests. We kindly obliged. Without menus, we asked our waitress for wine recommendations to pair with each of our meals. After a wonderful dessert, we got the bill and we noticed that the wine that was served to us was literally the most expensive wine on the menu. To top it off, when we asked for our meal/leftovers to be boxed up, the bread was just thrown in the bag without having been wrapped up with so much as a paper towel. So considering that we were gouged and didn't have our food boxed up properly, I would say that the overall experience was poor.
We went after a visit to the High, about 9pm. Parking was easy next door. The Federal has a bistro feel, and the wait staff were jovial and on top of things. We had the smoked fish appetizer with salads and the onion soup was superb. We will come back.
Amazing staff and food!!
THere is virtually nothing on the menu for a non meat eater, one swardfish dish, that's all. The entree's were exorbitantly priced. The simple steak frittes my wife ordered was $58!! I had an exceptional meal at Atlas last night, substantially better and more interesting, and the entree prices ranged from $32-$45. The corkage was also outrageous, at $25 per bottle. That is very high for this level restaurant. I even gave the manager and chef about 1/4 bottle of a 1999 Grand Cru Burgundy, just to be generous.
All in all, it was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have had in a while, and we eat out often. The Federal is walking distance from our house, but I will not waste the steps again for this one.
We visited The Federal for our Valentine's dinner. The setting was very romantic. Low light and candle lit. The music was perfect. Our server was very knowledgeable and friendly. We had the flatbread to start for a light snack with Cava. Then we enjoyed the Oxtail French Onion Soup. It was the best we've ever had. A delicious brussels sprout salad and we shared the Ribeye. It was cooked to perfection. With a great bottle of Zin and a Kit Kat for dessert, we were happier than can be. I highly recommend The Federal the next time you're in the mood for a steak or have plans Downtown.
Very good restaurant for special occasions. Excellent service.
We have been to The Federal several times and we always return. The food is terrific, the atmosphere very inviting and the services is consistently good. Located in the heart of Midtown, it's the perfect spot for dinner and then whatever else Midtown has to offer for the night. Always a delightful evening with very good eats. Looking forward to the next time....
Excellent steak and crab Louis salad (on special that night).
Food and service were very good. Music was 1940s love songs at a comically loud volume level. We couldn't wait to get out of there. Won't go back.
Bad attitude and limited menu
Good food. Poor service. Had to walk to bar to ask for water and our 2nd glass of wine which was ordered from server who was just hanging out at the bar. One guest meal came out 15 min after 1st meal. Note: not crowded only 2 other tables in restaurant.
It doesn't get any better than this -- Their Dinner menu is filled with a litany of winners from their tested appetizers to delicious desserts! Everything from the best Oxtail Onion soup you'll ever eat to their medium rare Ribeyes are cooked to perfection and served with a smile. I would not hesitate to go back for seconds --
I had looked this place up since I needed to have a business lunch with clients and The Federal would fit the bill. It was loud. The music was loud, but I did ask the waitron to lower and she did. Granted, we were the 1st ones there for lunch so the acoustics were sub-par. Then when partrons came in and filled the space, it was still a bid noisy. The food was awesome!
Solid all around
I stop in to The Federal every time I visit Atlanta. I can always count on a consistently good meal and a great bourbon selection!
Wonderful dinner, will go back! Food was fabulous. Atmosphere is dark and intimate, and we feels like you are in Europe.
We really enjoyed hearing about the specials and details about the menu. When they we’re energetically shared by the server at the table next to ours and we overheard them. Our server was infrequent and seemed rushed. We waited a long time for drinks as well as food. The food, however, was excellent. Was not as impressed with the steak as much as a prior visit, but the sides and other entrees were very good. Our water was refilled so aggressively (twice) that it spilled onto the table.
The food was excellent. The service, not so much.
Horribly slow service from someone who clearly didn’t want to be there, hadn’t washed his hair in days, and was generally disheveled throughout. We waited 15 minutes before getting water and another 30 before we got our drink orders. The restaurant was maybe at 60% capacity on a Thursday. The food was overpriced for the value of what you got both in the amount of food as well as the flavor.
Food was good, server ruined what could have been a nice night. After 20 minutes at the table, I checked with the host to ensure someone had been assigned to us...the server arrived shortly afterward and as best we could tell from his demeanor, this may have been an unforgivable offense. At the 60 minute mark, a food runner noticed us looking around with nothing on the table and offered to bring us some bread. She and the host were gracious and the meal was fine when it arrived, we just wished we had the service that the tables around us were receiving from other servers.
Angus filet was cooked perfectly to order and very tender. Sides were great, especially the mushrooms and Brussels sprouts.
The service was great but the food was underwhelming. Steak was over salted and Brussels were mediocre
The steak and service was amazing. Might come back to try the happy hour Prix Frixe menu at the bar next time.
Enjoyed a great meal. All the staff was so wonderful. Great evening.
Celebrated a birthday lunch with friends. All was excellent.
We took my Mother to the Nutcracker so made reservations early before the show. We had previously had lunch here but not dinner. The restaurant was not full as we were early. I have to give a shout out to our waiter. I do not remember his name but he was awesome. He made a great recommendation to try the new Bordeaux on the menu and it was much appreciated. It was an excellent wine for the price. We had Charcuterie as an app - incredible meats - a little more cheese would have been nice but I am a mouse in a different life. My husband and I shared two meals - the hamburger and the special of the night mussels in a white wine sauce. I don't think I have ever had mussels that big before. They were awesome. Once again our waiter stepped in and recommended we switch out one of the fry sides for something else and we picked Brussels sprouts - huge side by the way and perfectly cooked. My Mother tried the pork schnitzel with the toppings and loved it. We were too full for dessert. I would definitely return and appreciate the great service.
Most of us thought our food was outstanding. Burger not so great.
The waiter was a little overwhelmed and some of our items were delayed. The restaurant was busy for a Monday night.
The Federal never disappoints. We shared a wonderful family dinner here in the early evening before walking to the Botanical Gardens. Service was spot on including great recommendations for food and wine. We all found the filets to be some of the best we’ve ever had. The Brussels sprouts were crispy and flavorful. Pommes frites are a must.
Not a place for a business lunch. One server to the whole place. Food came out wrong, waited for water refills etc and then the icing on the cake is I left with someone’s to go order. Super messy establishment for a business lunch. Will not recommend or be back to try again. To be on crescent, you lack the business hustle and bustle.
I went here for brunch with my family and everyone's food was delish! Service was great and the mimosa's were yummy! Would like to come back to try the regular menu.
This was our first trip to this restaurant. Our service was outstanding. However, it was so incredibly loud in this restaurant, that even at our table for two, we had a hard time communicating. I had to practically yell my order to the server so she could hear me. I had to resort to pointing and nodding. I often had no idea what she was saying, though she was very kind and attentive. The food was pretty foot, but I think the loudness of the restaurant just took away from the experience. In addition, our seats were so close to the people at the tables behind each of us, that we often bumped into one another. The tables on the perimeter seemed fine, but the tables in the center were too close. That can also ruin the ambiance of a romantic evening. This was intended to be a special occasion dinner. Unfortunately, for $150-200 for two, it did not turn out that way.
Good food, very good service, cozy ambiance. Chicken liver and wild mushrooms were very good. Ribeye was good and cooked the way we asked ( medium rare) but not the best we’ve ever had. Our waiter was really good, gave us good food and wine recommendations without being aggressively polite.
The veggie sandwich I’ve ordered before - and I ordered it again. It way too salty (I think it’s the fried tofu?). And very fatty. A lot of avocado and avocado sauce - and not much taste except for salt. And not a lot of options on the menu for other non-meat dishes.
My spouse and I went here for dinner to celebrate! We split a few items and everything we had was really good. The crab cake - all crab. Rich and absolutely delicious. The 12oz Wagyu Steak - WOW! In my opinion this was one of the best steaks I have ever had and this is coming from someone who loves Ruth Chris, Hals, Rathburns, Marcels, and has even had famous steaks in Argentina. I thought it was fabulous and cooked to perfection! We also got the truffle mushrooms - they were great! Different type of mushroom then we are used to but delightful still! Would highly recommend! My only complaint was the music - they were trying to play vinyl and it kept skipping and was WAY too loud considering how small the place is - but this has nothing to do with the food/or service!
Walking into the place, the atmosphere is very cool. Definitely has a laid-back but upscale vibe. The menu is definitely focused on steak so that is what we ordered. We got the Manhattan which is supposed to be their signature dish and we were somewhat disappointed. The steak didn’t have anything unique or special about it. We also ordered salmon with the two sides and that was decent. For the price, I definitely think other restaurants offer more so we were a bit disappointed.
Fue una comida de negocios en un ambiente ameno, una buena variedad de platos para el almuerzo, comida muy sabrosa, buen servicio, volvería por la noche también.
Excellent food...very friendly wait staff....good wine list. Best pork scnitzel in Atlanta.
The new track lighting is HORRIBLE. Makes me never want to go there for lunch ever again. I have been a weekly customer for months.
Great food, excellent service! I appreciate that they welcome my little Yorkie on the patio.
