The General Muir
A favorite with many of the residents, this deli serves guests in simple but comfortable settings. The General Muir is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner all week, with a special brunch menu served over the weekends.
The Valentine's miho was overpriced and not worth $20 and we paid $125 for it
The Valentine’s Day
Valentines Day dinner.
Two words: loved it! We went for Valentine’s day. Fixed menu but extraordinary cuisine.
We had a great dining experience at The General Muir. Our server was extremely nice and made sure our food was served quickly and was to our liking. The food was excellent. We look forward to our next visit.
Always really amazingly good food in an upscale deli kind of way that you wouldn’t expect to find in the south. This last trip I did bring vegetarian friends in the menu was a little spartan for them. I personally love the Reuben and always make sure you have time for one of their seasonal desserts in a cup of coffee .
* also a great place to go for lunch if you’re by yourself and grab a seat at the bar.
Loved the food. Had great experience in the past, but the service was horrible tonight. It took a long time to get our drinks which we saw sit on the counter for at least 15 minutes. Then we ordered wine as soon as our food came, but the wine didn’t come until our waitress was bringing the check. Hopefully this was just a bad night to go because we loved our brunch experience prior to this.
We had a fabulous time with great cocktails, nice selection of beer and amazing fried chicken. The crunch on the fried chicken was wonderful, and it was surprisingly moist. We also got an order of corned beef that was very tender and flavorful. The server was very attentive.
Spaghetti Sunday was delicious!
Family gathering
We had a great dinner, great service and weirdly enough saw an episode of Diners Drive ins and Dives featuring General Muir later that night. Made the experience that much cooler.
Wonderful food and atmosphere.Worth the drive from, anywhere
This charming place is one of our favorites for a nice but moderately priced restaurant. Easy reservations, nice bar with busy bartenders. One of the best burgers. Trout was very well prepared. Kid options. Great bakery for deserts if you still have room.
We have been there before--primarily for the outstanding housemade pastrami--but this time came for the New Year's Even prix fixe dinner. The spaghetti & ricotta meatballs were tasty, but nothing special. The housemade pickles made more of an impression. Same for the sald, just OK. But the sdessert Tiramisu was OUTSTANDING!
Amazing Matzoh Ball Soup and delicious burger stack, and of course the fried chicken. Always enjoy dinner here. Also a great place to grab a sandwich during the day, or a bagel and schmear on the weekend.
The best corned beef and pastrami in the city- combine them in the large sandwich is the way to go. Great matzoh ball soup. The Mushroom appetizer is fantastic!
Very small menu but excellent food.
Great food and service. This place is amazing. Food is consistently excellent.
Our server was amazingly helpful!
Enjoyed the General Muir completely.
Great Food. The best Reuben I've every had hands down! The Matzo Ball Soup is amazing as well as the holiday Latke plates we had. Our server was extremely friendly and even got us special donuts that had been prepared for Hanukkah. Highly, highly recommended.
We had the Sunday night spaghetti dinner. It was fine, but not great. Brunch is a lot better there.
Hostess would not seat us right away because they did not have menus available. We were with a 85 year old lady and I said we really need to sit at a table.
It was a Sunday night and they had a special menu of latkes for Hanukkah. We were given the menus and when we were ready to order were told there were no latkes available.
Service was slow.
Very disappointed
Food is outstanding, wait service top notch. Way too much attitude at the front desk.
Empty restaurant wanted us to wait for the last person to arrive before they would seat us. There were only 2 or 3 tables sat in the dining room with no one waiting. When we asked to speak to a manager, she assured us that the hostesses were new and confused about policy. Said we could be seated. Manager then approached the hostesses and appeared to mumble something snarky. We were finally seated. Customer service seemed a bit lacking. Food made up for it. Thanks chef!!
Met up with a friend for an early dinner. Staff got us seated right away. Waiter was super attentive and helpful. He made a great recommendation for the veggie small plates (we weren’t super hungry so we were sticking to something smallish). Really enjoyable— I will say that I prefer their brunch menu and their bakery but that’s not a flaw in their dinner menu, it’s just that their other meals are SO GOOD that the dinner menu is just a little less memorable by comparison. GET THE BRUSSELS SPROUTS— you will not regret it!!
menu was more limited than what was on the online menu. food was OK but not great.
We are long time customers and have dined at TGM many many times. The last few times both the service and the food seemed not as good as usual. I hope they are not spread too thin with so many locations that they've lost their quality control.
Only real complaint is with OpenTable who has it clearly listed as Monday Nov. 5 limited menu due to Ramen Night. We we're excited to try Ramen Night but the waiter hadn't heard of it nor seemed to care. All of that said, the regular menu was good but we were looking forward to the ramen.
Server was away a lot. He seemed to lose interest since we were t drinking.
The veggie plate was.... incredibly small. It was more like an not very tasty appetizer. 3 small piece of cauliflower, eggplant purée was less than a half of a small yogurt cup. And they gave me 4 notes of lentils. Really over rated.
Trout was good. But it was swimming in 3” of butter. Really. Do we need a stick of butter to cook one fish
It wasn’t terrible. But it wasn’t anything I would go want to go back for.
It was my birthday and a friend and I decided to try General Muir for dinner. I saw it was featured on the Food Network and was interested in trying it out. Everything was great (service, food, timeliness of reservation). It is an slightly upscale deli restaurant so be prepared $$ (a la carte). Otherwise, everything was wonderful.
General Muir is fantastic. I've recently discovered this place and keep coming back. Their Sunday brunch is absolutely delicious. They make a mean breakfast during the week as well! My favorite so far, however, has been their Friday night fried chicken dinner with a watermelon salad. Highly, highly recommend this place!
Nice setting with good staff BUT very limited dinner menu. Would stick to breakfast and lunch here, not for dinner.
Love Sunday Night Spaghetti!!
Went for the spaghetti and meatballs and was kinda disappointed. The meatballs were pretty dry and there was hardly any sauce in the bowl. I don't think it's unreasonable to have pretty high expectations when a salad and a small bowl of pasta with meatballs costs $17.
I'll hope for better next time, but i won't order meatballs.
Great food.
I have been to the General Muir for brunch and dinner before. Every visit is wonderful. The food is delicious and the service is grand. I highly recommend the burger stack.
The $17 spaghetti dinner at TGM cannot be beat. I have dreams about their meatballs.
Have been wanting to check out their new Burger Stack since a friend told me about it. Wish I had gone sooner! This definitely rates in the top 5 burgers, almost indistinguishable from Bocado, which I consider the standard bearer. Fries were perfect. My wife had trout, which she loved. Great service, surprisingly not crowded for a Friday night. Will definitely have this on a more regular spot in the rotation!
So. Much. Salt. I could not eat it all. The scallops were find but not great. We the sauce and the beans were inedible.
Did not know from their website that on Sunday and Monday nights, they have 'specials' and that is ALL they serve. I would think they would state this somewhere on their website when stating that Sunday and Monday's are special menus.
