The Hero Ranch Kitchen
Excellent waiter. Farm fresh menu.
Enjoyed the cuisine. Will return.
By far one of our very favorite restaurants in the area. The food is always amazing and the hospitality of the owner and his manager and staff are always excellent. Please be sure not to miss this treasure in our own backyard. Can’t wait to return!
The Hero Ranch Kitchen is a small, upscale, trendy gem. Located in downtown Saratoga. It is a great place to have a craft cocktail and a delicious meal. Reservation during popular times are hard to get, so book as far in advance as you can. Walk-in patrons risk the chance of being turned away at the door. The venue has close quarters and can get a bit noisy as it becomes full. The staff is well versed at keeping things running smoothly and never make you feel rushed or forgotten. The food is exceptional and eclectic. Everyone seems to watch as plates are presented to diners. It is hard to choose between the small plates and the entrees. The menu really teases the best out of local farm to table produce, cheeses and meats. The wine list is small and the prices are very reasonable. Make sure to check out their selection. It will be hard to resist ordering a bottle at such a good value. Make sure to save room for a desert. The bread pudding is really great.
Engagement! Great food! Great everything! Great experience!!!
Delicious, thoughtful, warm, friendly are words that come to mind regarding our evening at The Hero Ranch Kitchen. The dishes were extremely well thought-out and exuberantly tasty. Talking with owner Angelo Heropoulos was the icing on the cake.
Wonderful evening to spend a belated Valentine's Day dinner! Already have reservations for dinner with family in a couple weeks!
We read about Hero in the Mercury News and were extremely pleased with our first time experience. I usually judge the chef on whether he/she can get the medium-rare lamb chops correct. They were spot on perfect. The only downside was the noise level--and, even that was because people all appeared to be having a great time. Our server was Buck. He took care of all our needs and more. There was also Michael, who seemed to be a roving ambassador. Great Job. We will definitely be returning.
We were greeted by friendly hostesses and taken directly to our table. But when we got to it, it was a challenge to get into it! The tables, as others have stated, are just too close to one another. We were so close to another couple, we all started talking as if we were old friends! This was okay, but would have liked the opportunity to just hang out with my husband. The food was terrific, as were the cocktails and the wine we had. We shared an appetizer (amazing stuffed mushrooms), kale and broccoli salad (excellent), NY strip steak special (great flavor but sometimes chewy.) and the berry cobbler dessert (good but I've had better). Our waiter was terrific - felt bad for him trying to get to all his tables, so close together. I suggest they take one table out. It would just give that much more room for all the others. We'll come back, but maybe when it's warm and sit outside!
We were seated late (15minutes)...our reservations were at 5pm and we arrived at 4:50pm(first in line). Last to be seated....
Need to upgrade (hostess)
Finally seated in the annex section of the restaurant ( big mistake)
Very cold room...
Good food.... good pricing on their wine section.....
Good food, pleasant wait staff - but extremely noisy and jammed tables - if you go, do not sit by the entrance door and keep your elbows in!
Small and noisy
Delicious food. Enjoyed all the menu items we tried so far. The only reason it’s 4 stars and not 5 is that it really seems to be too many tables for a small space. Felt somewhat uncomfortable how close we were seated with other guests. Otherwise, definitely recommend going.
The food is fantastic, as are the service and ambience. The 4 of us tried 3 different entrees and loved each one. This will definitely be our default restaurant.
My reservation was for 8 PM and they called earlier saying that they could seat us earlier (45 min early) if we want to come in early. We went there 20 minutes early and were seated. But not at the table we would've preferred. Our preferred table was given to someone else. The tables are too close to each other and the server helping the table next to me bumped my chair twice and each time I'd to keep bending away, lest I get hit in the head or have food spilled on me. The music was loud so it was difficult to hold a conversation.
Food was good and our server was courteous and attentive. Interestingly the owner/chef was going around other tables but somehow did not make it to our table.
Loved it...the food and the service very good. Will be going back.
Amazing drinks, food, service, and ambiance. The best restaurant in Los Gatos/Saratoga!
Cozy spot with a lovely wine list. Attentive, friendly service, but the food was hit and miss.
This was our 2nd visit to Hero Ranch. We went in a group of 6 in December and were a party of two this time. We had the crab cakes, hamachi salad, octopus salad, lobster bisque, Brussels sprouts and a goat cheese cheesecake plus cocktails. I really enjoyed the crab cakes, the red wine blend I got and the grilled octopus. The Brussels were overwhelmingly sweet. It took a long time to figure out why there were sugar crystals in the salad and realized those were candied pecans but really were mostly sugar, not nut.
Service was friendly but felt like we were being rushed through the meal. They are busy and without the patio seating in winter, I understand the desire to turn over tables but it did take away from the meal. We will return but maybe not until the weather warms up.
I recommended it to a class I taught on Sat. 26 people. It is a bit loud. Otherwise, wonderful and fun experience.
Good food, service, ambience and value.
Our first visit to Hero Ranch Kitchen was definitely worthy. We are anxious to go back and try more options. All the food was very tasty. We shared some small plates and then split the pork chops. The pork was very delicious but a bit dry as pork chops can be but still very enjoyable with excellent carmelization. The corn and carnitas cups were both delicious.
Can't wait to try more options.
Beautiful new decor for this new restaurant. Wait staff good and cocktail offerings fun. Actually, my cocktail was the best part of the meal.
Ordered tempura green beans....way too few beans for the price....but tasty. Followed with the kale/ brocalli salad...too much acid in dressing. I ordered the pork chop ( server never asked how I would like it cooked) and my date ordered the zoodle ( zucchini noodles) bolognaise. The sauce on my pork chop was delicious but couldn’t compensate for the dried meat. The accompanying potato mash and Brussel sprouts perfect. The zoodle dish arrived icy....yep that is the word my date used. The wait staff took it away immediately and then returned with the dish ,saying the chef said this was the way the zoodle shad to be prepared and that by stirring in hot meat sauce, all would become warm. Actually nothing became warm. The owner/ maitre de then offered a substitute lasagne , which we took advantage of. That level of customer service was nice....and expected at these prices. He also brought over a complimentary cup of the soup special to tide over my date while I ate my pork chop.
All in all, found the place lovely to look at, loved the music selections and wait staff, but think the kitchen needs a bit more time to get things excellent.
My steak was delicious and so perfectly cooked! Everything right down to the cocktails and desserts was amazing. We loved everything our wonderful waiter recommended. We will be back soon!
Overall pretty good, but it was loud and crowded. Food was good, but nothing really that special.
Our new favorite restaurant. We’ve been there twice it didn’t disappoint. They food was top notch, the service was great. The waitress is very knowledgeable. We can’t wait to go back!
Visited Hero Ranch twice in one week. On this visit invited a friend who lives in Palo Alto. We both enjoyed the appetizers which we shared - crab cakes, carnitas cups and tacos plus the shredded apple, bacon salad. The wine selection is over the top and prices reasonable. Service was great. I think this is the best restaurant in the Cupertino/Saratoga/Los Gatos areas.
Not only was the food good but our server, Brianna K was the best. She made our experience an
A+++++++++. She is definitely an asset to that restraunt.
Service excellent, food superb, we will be back many times.
Absolutely love this new restaurant. Great food. Wonderful presentation. Fantastic and reasonably priced wines. A true winner.
First time there. Won't be the last!!! Great variety menu. Everything we had was wonderful. Can't believe the wine values.
We had an unforgettable evening last night. We were celebrating a 60th birthday. At first, we thought our night would be a disappointment because, although we had an 8:00 p.m. reservation, there were some issues and we were not seated for 30 minutes. Luckily, Angelo, the owner came to our rescue. He found us a table and comped us. We went on to have an exceptional meal, much of it served by Angelo himself. We had the himachi and the shrimp wrapped in pancetta for starters. We followed this with an excellent Caesar salad, incredible lamb chops, and a NY strip steak with grilled asparagus and mashed potatoes. The desserts were also fabulous. The food is truly outstanding. There is also an excellent wine list with prices that are essentially at cost. The wine prices are so good that we actually bought extra bottles of wine to take home. We will definitely be back and highly recommend Hero Ranch for any occasion
Excellent service, never a disappointment.
This is the best restaurant I have been too in the South Bay in a long time. Loved everything about our dining experience. I Very interesting menu choices. There were so many great appetizers that my daughters and I shared four appetizers and did individual salads. Everything was delicious. My husband had the steak and a Cobb salad and gave high marks for his dinner. Besides ordering wine we tried the Rancharita cocktail - like a margarita but made with carrot juice and passion fruit and loved it. Highly recommend this restaurant!!!
Prices for the wines are a great value for money
Belle glos pinot $40
Very good food!
All the food was amazing ... highly recommend the pork chop and carnitas wraps for an appetizer. Good selection of wines at great prices. Make a reservation, it will be busy
A superb addition to the dining choices in the South Bay. The quality of the food, inventive preparations,
delightful presentations, and fine service makes this our new favorite restaurant.
We have enjoyed dining here five times already, and each evening was outstanding. On several occasions we had the chance to converse with other diners, everyone we spoke with thoroughly enjoyed their meal selections as well.
Angelo, the owner, makes a point of stopping by to greet his patrons and getting to know them.
Charles, one of the waitstaff, makes ensures each diner has an outstanding experience.
We try new dishes each visit and highly recommend them all! The many small plates are particularly enjoyable.
First time there and I was delighted with the food, the service and the friendliness of the place. I’ll be back often.
Have visited twice and both times everything has been amazing!! Great food, great service and a fun atmosphere. A great addition to downtown Saratoga. We will be back!
The food is unique and the service is quite good....We went there for our anniversary and will return...
