What Insiders Are Saying
The Progress, on Fillmore, is a great time and a good scene, with excellent food.
Loved this place. Great food, great service. All food was Great but the squid ink pasta was an absolute standout.
No valet on a day where we had the women’s march not a great experience
Diners crammed in like a rush hour BART train
Poor wine selection
The service was VERY slow. We had 45 minute gaps where we would have no service. We were dining with a 2-year old and this was very difficult for us. Way too slow.
My wife and I went here as a first night out after being enclosed with our newborn for 6 weeks. We had an amazing meal. The rib eye was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes were a must with them and together they made us melt into our chairs with satisfaction. We also ordered the roti with truffles, the Brussels sprouts, and the pork shoulder. Our waiter, Sophie, was also great. She encouraged our celebration. We topped it off with the chocolate cake and the 20 year tawny port. Back to the grind!
The only downside was the noise level. My guest and I could barely hear one another. The decibel level was 84. Any way to get things quieter?
The food and service were super!
Delicious food, great service, warm setting. We'll be back!
Everything about this place was magical.
Wonderful meal at The Progress! The duck platter was so delicious, the brussels sprout dish was the best brussels sprout dish I've ever had and the hot toddy panna cotta was amazing! Will be back again - every time the menu is a little different and every meal so far has been A+
Absolutely fantastic! Food, service, everything was wonderful. One of top dining experiences I have had in San Francisco!
I booked this restaurant for my boss and after he's been there he emailed me directly that he was so happy with my choice! Food and atmosphere all good!
Came here for my birthday and was such a great choice! We shared a bunch of amazing bites, great wine, great cocktails and the ambiance is the best in the city!
Heard really good things about this place before, but unfortunately the food was highly disappointing. Out of the 7-8 different meals we tried only one hit the standards of what you’d expect from a Michelin starred restaurant.
This was truly original food, beautifully presented. Although it was the popular plate sharing, the waiter helped us organize a wonderful meal.
Great ambience and excellent food. Service could be improved but cocktail list more than made up for this. Great meal
Excellent evening! Attention to detail all around and an upbeat staff very welcoming. Cocktails to start were excellent, we even ordered a few rounds. Service was much better than the usual per the city which was refreshing. Server described the menu and specials very well and took care to course out the meal giving us proper time to enjoy it at our leisure without feeling rushed. Definitely a place to revisit regularly.
Incredible New Year’s Eve at the bar! Friendly service and perfect pacing. Some of the best food we have had. Creative, diverse and many vegetarian options.
Always great, perfect evening. Hardly worth complaining about but when we were seated, we saw that there were two open booths that we would have preferred. We asked the maitre d' if we could have a booth, and she just ignored us. Let the booths just sit there empty for about ten minutes, and then seated others there. Seemed a little bit rude, no biggie, though. Only other thing that is a little bit off is that they recommend for a party of 4 to have one main entree, and 4 or 5 small plates. So we did that, but the small plates are really small, and they came one by one. Each small plate has two maybe three bites for each person. So you get two bites of food, then wait about 10 minutes for another two or three bites. By the time you get to the third small plate, and you've had a couple of drinks, it's not so bad, but it would be better to bring a couple of these small plates at the same time.
Service was attentive and excellent. Every dish was exquisite in taste.
We had an early reservation and the mayhem outside of state bird provisions had me a little concerned. We got right in and had a great table in a quiet corner. It’s a zoo outside at 5:30!
The cocktails were delicious and well-conceived. The family-style dining was fine for two but I can imagine it would be amazing with a bigger party. We had the pork chop special which was fantastic. The sides were all on point. Dessert was great. Only disappointment was an Americano instead of a cup of coffee, I’d have just ordered an espresso instead.
Excellent service, great food.
It’s alright... been a few times... super small plates and relatively expensive... you feel like you should get a little more... and deserts suck...
Progress is a gem. Spectacular service from the greeting through the departure. Shared plates are outstanding, varied, unique, well prepared and tasteful. While most are small plates, the main platters are substantial....though you can make a meal from all the smaller plates. A must go to restaurant and one we’ll return to again and again. Again the staff is well trained and exceptionally stunned to patrons needs and requests...even if you have to send a cocktail back once in a while.
Really good food, quite expensive though (but was expected).
State Bird Provisions is a lot better. Menu here was very limited and food was very underwhelming. Not worth the price.
For a high end restaurant, we were disappointed with the waitstaff as they seemed to have a “abrupt” attitude. We were told immediately that we did not order enough food even though that included seven appetizers and an entree. We told our server that we would order more food later (which we did) but that seemed to just add to the negative attitude.
Bottom line... the food was good but the waitstaff will prevent us from a return visit.
Creative, delicious, and fun dishes. Almost all dishes were memorable and wonderfully tasty. Service was friendly, attentive, and casual. A hair pricey, but well worth the money.
We had 4 dishes mostly veggies and 3 were not good. The only good dish was the squid ink pasta. We also had 2 dessert dishes and only one was good. Not extrodinary, just good. For the price, this restaurant’s food is a one star. I would not recommmend.
Great ambience and service but we were disappointed with the food. The cavatelli al ragu pasta was excellent but the lamb tartare was almost bland, the kimchi tempura was tasteless, and the veal piccata had no crunch and the oil was borderline rancid. For that price range we had higher expectations.
Excellent, inventive food, well worthy of its Michelin star. Service was extremely professional and friendly.
The food was innovative yet approachable. Very good service augmented the excellent food and wine offerings.
Very good food, nice environment
After several visits, this restaurant never fails to please with food, service,
and ambiance. One of my favorite, if not THE favorite place to eat in the city.
Delicious food, neat atmosphere, servers have a nice personality.
Food was fantastic
The Progress exceeded expectations. We had a group of 6 so were able to try 18 items off the menu. There was not a single item that wasn't delicious and inventive. The menu is extremely well balanced with several veggie, seafood, and meat options. I'd love to return next time I'm in SF!
Unique, creative vegetable dishes. Amazing flavors. Best duck we've ever had.
Excellent food and incredible service.
High quality food, impeccable staff.
Our server was wonderful! She had great suggestions. Our meal was delicious. Drinks were inventive and wine list extensive. A great experience all the way around!
Most pleasant experience all the way around and can’t wait to be back!
