The Wolf - Oakland
The service was slow even with a half empty restaurant, the starters are worth skipping over (the little gem salad is just bad, the mushroom soup forgettable, oysters poorly shucked). The duck is good (although it arrived cold) and the scallop dish was the saving grace. Our server was really sweet and the restaurant is pretty but for the price it was incredibly disappointing. I won’t be back.
Great food. Great service. Very relaxing environment.
One of our favorite places! Food, service, including the pacing of the experience, all great, making for a comfortable, relaxing night out. Thanks!
Seated promptly upon arrival...always a plus. Remodel is well done...subtle, refined. The service was excellent, with our server very knowledgeable about how the dishes were prepared.
The food was cooked excellently, with octopus not being the least bit chewy. Brussels sprouts, fried with “special sauce,” were excellent.
Unfortunately, some other dishes, though expertly prepared, tasted “soulless,” without that special something that personalizes the style of the chef...a flaw, but not fatal.
We came for the Valentine's Day prix fixe meal. Our waitress took her time coming to our table and then when I had questions about the menu since I'm 7 months pregnant, she didn't seem to understand the questions that I was asking to determine which dishes I'd be able to eat. At one point she cleared our appetizers and then came back a minute later to ask us if she had just cleared the first course or entree dishes. It was upsetting that she couldn't remember what plates she had just taken away when it was only a 3-course meal. My husband had to repeatedly try to flag her down to ask for the wine list again so that he could get another glass of wine. She also never came back to check on us after our entrees, since another server brought out our final plates, so we were never asked if we wanted any coffee or tea with our dessert. It was disappointing to be going out for a nice meal to celebrate Valentine's day, just to feel ignored.
The food was very good as always and our server was attentive and nice.
Outstanding seafood stew! Wonderful salad with gem lettuces, grapefruit and pine nuts. Perfect in every way.
Great food per plate, but didn’t always go super well together. Great place though, I’d just recommend asking for some guidance from your server.
Two very loud drunk men at the bar was an unpleasant introduction. No one from the restaurant said a word to them or asked them to lower their voices. I couldn't hear the person right beside me over their sloppy misplaced machismo.
We had reservations, and were seated on time, but our food took waaaaaayyyy too long to arrive - like an hour from placing an order to having it arrive. The restaurant was empty by the time it came. Food was tasty, portions quite small. I certainly did not feel like our dining experience was a priority at this establishment.
We hadn't been to this place since it was Bay Wolf, so didn't know quite what to expect. In fact, it was lovely, thoughtful and everything was delicious. We had gone with the family to celebrate my wife's birthday and they knew and remembered. We'll go back again!
Came here recently for a special occasion. The food and service were all top-notch. Definitely recommended.
Good welcome. Willing to move my party when we discovered we were seated too close to a party of 6 extraordinarily noisy celebrating women and could hear nothing. This is a noisy restaurant anyway, but food and service are excellent.
Great meal with friends—the polenta the hamburger was very good. Service was excellent but the noise level made conversation a little difficult at times.
Always a great meal and experience!
Overall was good- wasn’t wowed by our main courses. The appetizers were all very nice. Service was ok. Wine list ok. Location is nice and the restaurant itself is relatively cozy. Not sure I would come back.
Went to celebrate a friend's birthday. Waiter never did take our order; we ordered through the hostess. The lunch menu is very limited: salads, one pasta, sandwiches, including burger. Ordered a medium rare burger and got a well-done one. Gave up.
The Wolf is solid-these folks know what they are doing!!! The food is delicious, the service is outstanding, and the ambiance is elegant and welcoming. This was my second visit, the first time I went for an anniversary dinner with my husband, this time for friend's bday. I had the endive salad and scallops with risotto - fanstastic!
All three diners were completely happy with menu and choices made and served. Will be delighted to return.
Had a "first date", it was perfect, the foos was delicious and the wine the server suggested was exquisite.
Very hall...will go back again.
I DID answer twice-- the site kept disappearing.
Did you find my answer on the amazing Octopus and Sauce, and my husbands's delicious corned beef sandwich. The Restaurant is a REAL TREAT!
-- WE enjoyed meeting the new owner (charming and very pretty)
Overall we had a delicious dinner at The Wolf but we were put off when we were seated outside on a chilly evening. Though we were under a heat lamp, there was a cold draft and we couldn't take off our coats. We asked for another table but the maitre d' said he didn't have any alternatives (despite the fact we had made a reservation and had said this was a birthday dinner). Not a great start.
When the waitress came to take our order a few minutes later, she asked how we were doing and we admitted we were cold. She inquired and said there would be a table available inside in about 10 minutes. We ordered and a few minutes later were escorted to a table inside.
We ordered three appetizers -- carrot soup, seafood sausage, Brussels sprouts -- and one main dish of scallops and everything is fantastic and well presented. The wait staff provided extra plates and bowls for sharing and service was excellent.
I'd recommend The Wolf but if it's a cold day or night you might want to request a table inside.
Fantastic bay scallops - Our waiter was very knowledgeable about wines, allowing us to try some, and educating me on Rieslings. Decaf coffee was not great, but overall, it was a wonderful dinner!
With a front door open to the street, it was drafty on one of the coldest evenings of the year. The corkage charge is excessive. That being said, the food was very good and the service was outstanding. One of our guests is very gluten-sensitive and our server was fantastic about recommendations and substitutions. Some of the best service we've ever had!
The wolf is an excellent restaurant on Piedmont Avenue. Once again the wood family Richard and Rebecca have an all star restaurant. We will return.
The octopus and duck were cooked perfectly and presented beautifully. The wine was a shade expensive for what was being served, but the selections were good and it was a great experience overall. Perfect noise level to hold a conversation as well.
Great upscale yet casual dining with a solid wine list.
Server could have been more attentive to our needs but fair overall
Four of us for lunch...all chose the salmon salad, one requested special dressing due to allergy, which was no problem. The salad was great, but The fact that we all chose the same dish is a good indication that the lunch options were far too limited. Other options were not very appealing. As the host, I was delighted to find a very nice and reasonably priced bottle of Pino Blanc from Alsace...wines from that area tend not to be offered and, in fact, are hard to find in local wine stores. It was a hit at our table. We liked our seating and appreciated the knowledgeable and flexible wait staff.
Wonderful and kind servers and staff. Even though I arrived later than my reservation and my friend arrived much later, the restaurant accommodated us and didn’t give us a surly attitude so common in Bay Area restaurants. They also stored my luggage for several hours. Plus, the food was fantastic. Pork belly and octopus were both amazing.
Excellent dining experience as always at the Wolf.
Rodrigo took great care of us and all food was right
On the mark, ftom brussel sprouts to burger. Manhattans
Top notch as well
Will be back soon
Have not eaten here under the new name and management, but used to live in the neighborhood and went back to check it out. I loved our table, which was quiet and romantic, even though I had to ask for it after the hostess wanted to have us sit next to a raucus table of 6 at first! Loved the food, portions were so big we had to take some home but it was great their morning with eggs! Perfect, friendly, attentive but still casual wait staff allowed us space but still we felt very attended to. I would wonder if the menu choices open up a little next time-- Will be back!
It was like being at an upscale Wood Tavern. The ambiance was great and we were seated by the front windows which open but there were great heaters. The food was good but entrees were some what limited. It proved to be a unique and great dining experience.
Fantastically energetic and lively spot for drinks, exotic eats or a romantic date.
Great ambiance for an anniversary dinner! Romantic, delicious and classy.
The food was very good and the service was great. We would definitely go back. We loved everything we ordered.
Went for a birthday dinner. Pleasant experience. Have been coming here since BayWolf days. Still great. Will be back.
I was impressed for a dinner meeting the acoustics were not a problem. The service complemented the meeting nicely. I would not hesitate to return, either for business or pleasure.
Impeccable. Oakland chef has really found her footing here. Service was professional and decent
Birthday dinner, wanted to experience something new. We all were delighted with the atmosphere and food. I have told others to go.
