Our magical conservatory restaurant is set amid Updown’s rambling grounds. Dine under the grape vines surrounded by beautiful 17th century brick and watch the chefs in the open kitchen tending to the wood fired grill and original farm house bread oven. The restaurant has been completely transformed by owners Ruth and Oli to be heated and fully enclosed and is open year round.

Menus will be small, hyper seasonal and use the best of local and European produce and change on regular basis to reflect what’s best. Everything is cooked over wood in the open kitchen. There is a short list of exciting wines of limited availability, local beers and seasonal cocktails.

Monday - Friday lunch as well as Monday & Tuesday dinner we have a 3 course set menu along side our full menu at £35. On Wednesday nights along side our full menu we cook a Steak Night menu , priced at £30 per person for 3 courses. On Sunday our restaurant is only open for lunch 12 -4pm.

Private party facilities
Updown has several beautiful spaces in which to host your private event. We have a beautiful conservatory Private Dining Room overlooking the farmhouse lawn. It is perfect for groups of 4 to 16 for a seated meal, or up to 20 for a drinks party. The main restaurant can accommodate up to 60 sitting or 150 standing and is ideal for a larger party.

It is a wonderful restaurant in lovely surroundings, with excellent service. The Guest Chef provided an interesting menu. However, for this one-off occasion, the tables were too cramped and it was too noisy. Would have preferred seating on smaller tables. Despite that, it was an enjoyable evening.

Lovely location, atmosphere and food. Gary, our server, was particularly wonderful! We have been to Updown in multiple occasions and its always a treat to return. Unfortunately it was raining on this occasion as we normally like to walk the beautiful garden before dinner.

Fabulous restaurant in a stunning setting. Portion size excellent despite reviews. Only suggestion would be to have toilet facilities inside the restaurant as you currently have to walk outside, fine on a sunny day. Also, an additional singular steak option would be good as currently only a sharer available. Otherwise amazing experience and would return.

We were very much looking forward to our evening at Updown and it did not disappoint. Being nestled away in the beauty of the east Kent countryside is part of the appeal, which made it feel even more special. The food and service were brilliant.

Delightful experience from beginning to end. We both went for the set menu lunch which was beautifully cooked and presented by lovely staff. The restaurant is a little haven in the centre of lush gardens - a memorable moment and a real treat……

We enjoyed the set menu for steak night. The wild garlic and asparagus soup was exquisite, steak perfectly cooked and flavoured with amazing panacotta to finish. Lovely ambience and quiet celebration for my partner’s birthday. The staff were attentive without being intrusive. Lovely time

Lovely setting in the Kent countryside. Arriving early, we had a relaxed drink in the bar before wandering through to the restaurant for lunch. Service was good, handling a minor faux pas with grace (mistaking us for another booking). Food was generally Italian influenced, cooked well generally but I felt it erred more to the relaxed setting rather than the elegance of it. The type of restaurant I’d happily recommend to those who are in the area, want a touch of country house glamour, and who (under the current kitchen) are comfortable with approachable rather than fine dining.
