Water Grill - Dallas
Excellent oysters, the rest was very average
We went for Restaurant Week for an early Sunday dinner before going to the Opera House. Quiet atmosphere, attentive staff (many of them and they seem to help each other out), enjoyed watching the activity in the kitchen (behind glass, so not loud), restaurant decor is fishy / coastal / retro padded bar in the center and fresh bar opposite it. I did see a patio, but it's 100+ out in August, so didn't see anyone there. I had Boston clam chowder (mild, but fresh) served with excellent breads / Scallops were done well - not overcooked, but crispy exterior w/ a flavorful sauce, and the best bread pudding w/ caramel and sea salt even. Hubby had the watercress & Heirloom tomato salad - large portion and fresh, he had the salmon and Farro risotto - a little too earthy for his preference (green sauce), he had the dish of 3 ice creams for dessert. We each had a cocktail ahead and then a Pinot for the meal. I did have to ask for ice for my water. Valet was OK, but had to be found when we left.
Great food, the wait staff, although generally pleasant, seemed to be very busy but not efficient. They had no clue about cleaning off between appies and dinner; no clue that we might want to order more; no clue we might want desert; and the hostess' were very nice but not particularly well versed in dealing with clients. FOOD EXCELLENT!! so, bottom line, the back of restaurant should get a SIX STAR RATING but the front of house, other than the bartender who was top notch, really could use significant training on awareness and efficiency....much movement and constant scurrying around but not productive....kind of annoying actually.
Best restaurant I’ve been to in all of Dallas. I have been here twice & plan to return for my birthday.
Great food. Great service!
Always good and fun place to go.
Chef needs training on cooking fresh fish. When fresh fish gets close to expiring, chefs have a trick of over salting to cover fish smell. This is not my first rodeo. If I’m paying a premium to get fresh. I sent my overly salted Halibut back for a fresh, unsalted filet.
Went for Restaurant Week, so didn't have choice of entire menu. I selected the scallops which were delicious. I started with the Clam Chowder which was excellent. We shred desserts - ice-cream and bread pudding, all of which were OK. As for the service: Justin took extremely good care of us. I will return so that I can try other menu items.
It was amazing! The staff really made it a special night. The food was fantastic!
Delicious high quality food, amble serving sizes, great service, and for Restaurant Week- it was a very good value and great experience.
Definitely disappointed in the atmosphere and food
Food was way overpriced for what it was. It was aesthetically pleasing but that's about it. And, I got this menu during restaurant week, so it was already discounted as is and I still don't deem it worth it.
Great restaurant week specials. Excellent service and very good food.
Our first time here. Everything was wonderful (the food, the service, the ambiance).. we shall come back...
Absolutely flawless service, thanks Alley! Enjoyed fantastic oysters and crab starter, refreshing moscow mules and excellent breads. I wish I could finish the diving Mexican Sea Bass with bok choy, mashed potatoes were amazing too! Looking forward to coming back for sure.
Very good food, not cheap but worth it.
Beautiful, attentive and personable bar tender, good food, and great atmosphere!
Just an amazing restaurant, and each time it seems to get better. The host to the servers and table runners are so polite. The food never disappoints
The food was in eatable. Shrimp was mushy. Chowder smelled. Fish-n-chips were soggy. I don’t know what’s happened. Been a few time previously and always had good food. This was scary!!!
I wanted to take my wife out for dinner where she could dress up as she likes to do that. I was hoping Water Grill was such a place, but not so. My wife was looking amazing, hot, dressed fine, I was dressed in very nice business casual. The waiter commented we both looked great and asked if we were going somewhere after dinner.
Regrettably, there were patrons in the restaurant on a Saturday night during our 7:00 reservation wearing T-shirts and shorts. It killed the overall ambiance. So for management, can you have a minimum dress code of a collared shirt and any long pants (jeans, slacks) and sock rule. If not I will not return. Food, staff, decore, valet, etc. all great. But not a place to take a date if your date wants to feel special.
The food was amazing and the staff was very knowledgeable. We are looking forward to our next visit.
Valet understaffed and took extra time to check in our car. Snapper special came as full fish- no indication from server or menu that this would be the case. Full of bones and not very flavorful. Shrimp and grits unremarkable. Warning- if you get this dish, tell them to take the heads off. Otherwise your shrimp will come whole including the heads for some inexplicable reason. A disappointing experience.
This is a nice restaurant with a nice decor. Good food though very pricey. Good service. But for God’s sake why does a restaurant that try’s to market itself as a high end seafood restaurant have to play loud, obnoxious music like it is a bar in Deep Ellum? They don’t have to play ANY music. Look around at your clientele Watergrill. The average age in there is not millennial and doesn’t listen to the crap they were playing and not at that volume. We won’t go back until the policy changes.
Excellent waiter. Knowledgeable of menu and very helpful. Raw bar is outstanding. A wonderful overall dining experience.
Everything here has been fantastic!
Very nice. The restaurant was a beautiful surprise to be available on July 4th
Excellent food and service. The interior is very nice as well and has a very large bar area with great seating.
Wonderful ambiance and exquisite food!
I had the same problem this time as I did the last. The Valet is supposed to send me a text so I can request my car, but never got the text even after reminding the via the hostess 2 times. We typically come by prior to going to the theater, so it would be nice if we could request the car and not have to wait long for it. Can’t imagine why this wouldn’t work two times in a row.
this is the 4th time we have been there this year. great food, great staff. highly recommend...
For a seafood restaurant, which is usually quite a healthy choice, I found the offerings to be quite heavy. I ordered the CT version lobster roll, which I've had in CT and enjoyed, and this one had so much butter on it that it was a mess to eat, in addition to being quite unhealthy. The wedge salad was just good, not great. AND it's a very expensive restaurant, so it's just not worth the money. The interior decoration was quite nice, but still not worth it.
3rd time here was NOT the charm. Got the happy hour oysters and one was old and stinky. Shrimp cocktail was so-so, and copper river salmon over cooked. Way too expensive for a $47 plate of food. Wife’s Seabass was okay, mashed potatoes good and scallops were average. Do not believe we will be back with so many dining choices in D.
Overpriced for the tase of the food we received. Service and bread rolls were great. Otherwise everything else was kinda bland tasting.
Delicious food but extremely pricey!
Fantastic dinner to celebrate our wedding anniversary at Dallas Water Grill. Servers were attentive, good energy vibe without overdoing it, even offered a dessert special. ( Perhaps because we also held our Wedding reception dinner event at the Costa Mesa Water Grill.) My wife loved her Halibut Salad entree, and my Copper River Salmon entree was one of the best I'd ever tasted. Top marks go to the entire staff.
Valet parking was wonderful. The service and staff are very accommodating. The menu is suited for many diets and the food is well prepared. Very comfortable dining and we look forward to returning in the near future.
The Water Grill always seems to exceed my expectations. The food - Chilean sea bass and Dover sole were mouthwatering as advertised. The waiter knew just the right times to intervene in our late lunch to serve the table without interrupting our conversation. The meal was enhanced on the open air patio that provided a nice breeze but plenty of shade. A great dining experience.
Very chi-chi interior and ambience. The blue crab cakes with the vegetable salad is the one to get. In fact, you can almost make a meal of it but we split it since we were both getting main courses. Mine was the Copper salmon(in season) and was cooked to perfection with a bed of risotto underlayment. The risotto was good, marred a little by a bit too much salt. My partner had the fish and chips. The batter was very crispy but again a bit too salty. Since it was my birthday, they gave me a three cookie(double chocolate, oatmeal, and snickerdoodle) with homemade ice-cream. A very nice touch!
Horrible service!!!!! Had a reservation for pre-theatre at 5 pm, showed up at 4:40 pm. Walked in and the restaurant was nearly empty and yet it still took almost 10 minutes to be seated. Then service was so slow and the food came out lukewarm at best. It took almost 2 hours to have dinner. Dinner was not worth the money and especially when you factor in the service...waiting 20 mins for dessert was the last straw. I won't be coming back. This place was great when it first opened and now is another restaurant to never return to. If I could ask for my money back I would.
