République, located in mid-city, is owned by Chef Walter Manzke and Chef Margarita Manzke. Centered in the heart of Los Angeles, the classic building in which it resides was originally erected in 1929 by Charlie Chaplin, and later transformed into the iconic La Brea Bakery and Campanile Restaurant. République builds on this storied past, offering a gastronomic environment imbued with history and grandeur. The space features a casual bar and bistro in the front with a more formal dining area located in the rear, serving a French-inspired menu created daily by our Chefs.

Great in every way, except that it is way too noisy. Wonderfully French! Highly recommended, but ask to sit upstairs to be able to hear your companions.

In town with a friend from Italy. We were seated first in the bar where the music was so load it was stressful just sitting and pondering the menu. We were very kindly helped to move to a table in the back where the noise level was much better. The waiter was not terribly personable, but his service was fine otherwise. We had four dishes, each of which had not a single missing note. Really excellent cuisine.

We were seated between two couples and were not given a menu until five minutes or so had passed. The music was pretty loud so everyone was talking over each other. The noise level, especially with a headache, was not very pleasant. Other than that, the service was great with frequent water refills from multiple staff members and napkin refolds when you left the table. Our server was amazing and the food was delicious! The wait was a little long but the restaurant is huge so that’s understandable. Would definitely go back!

I walked in by myself after a bsd date. Everyone there was so friendly and so sweet. From being seated to the service to pleasant conversations and the food was incredibly flavorful and Chef Walter was nice enough to come out so I could personally thank him. One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had!

Never again!!!!
Octopus salad was excellent, as was bread the bed of polenta added nothing.

The busboy hit my chair once and grazed my hair twice while clearing.

It was so dark we couldn’t see.

The crowning blow, NOT the restaurant’s fault, was the couple that came to sit at the next table and conversed at a shout throughout the meal. The folks on the other side noticed it, too, but what could be done. Nothing.

All in all, not a repeat performance.

Seating in main room was great, nice spot, but wooden stool killed my buttocks after a three hour meal for a friend's special birthday celebration. Their wine list has exploded since I've been back (pre-Tyler leaving). Our waitress was so nice, happy and smiling. She had a great energy, and a nice ear whispering technique to get around the house in the vaulted ceiling room.

As always, the fresh bread and pan drippings with Normandy butter is to die for. We had too much of that. The smokiness of the big eye tuna tartar with caviar was ridiculous. The uni toast was probably the best I've had outside a sushi restaurant, perfect toast on the bread. Salads were all great, especially the red salad. White asparagus was a nice rare seasonal menu item.

Caccio pepe was spicy, good, but I've had better. But the signature dish here that I've drooled over for years that still doesn't fail to impress me is the spinach bucatini with mushrooms. Paired so well with the 2010 St Joseph Rhone wine I brought. I was in heaven.

The young female som was a pleasure to talk to. Such amazing and personalized service. She pulled two of their last bottles in stock. One of them rocked our socks, the 99 Mersault. Haven't had a wine that good since I had lunch in Paris at Le Truffiere for my 40th birthday in June.

The som also pulled an amazing 98 CDP Beaucastel that was very "brambly" as she, spot-onc put it. Wild berries, strawberries. Everything came paced correctly, maybe a little slow, but hey they are super packed. They made no errors and everything was spot-on so I can't fault a slight time delay which led to uncontrolled bread binging in between plates.

I'm skeptical about aged rib eye meat boards now a days, but this one is really good. On the way out, saw the aged duck hanging and wondered if she should have tried that instead. No complaints on the meat though. Excellent preparation, more on the rare side, the way I like, and meat was very tender and clearly had the aged flavor.

We had a lovely time- it has a very NY vibe and while they were out of the sea bass, we instead had delicious black cod.

Definitely a fun tasty experience and would recommend for a nice night out

Just WOW! Lucky to be able to eat at great restaurants around the world, and this just jumped into my top 10! Fantastic food, thoughtfully prepared. Great service, from the guy shucking the oysters near the front door to the Sommelier (one of three!). Amazing wine list, eclectic menu, super interesting interior... just about perfect in every aspect. Go. Go now!

I have enjoyed your restaurant so much in the past, Sunday the food was disappointing. Service good, ambience excellent. Chicken disappointing, salad just lettuce and short ribs barely a taste not enough to even share.

We greatly enjoyed our evening at République. Each course was exceptional. The team that waited on us (three people) could not have done a better job. Our waiter, Alex, was delightful and guided us to delightful dishes after taking a brief moment to ask about our preferences. It is unfortunate we did not learn the names of the two others that that took care of us. I wish it were possible to thank them by name. They quietly waited far enough away not to feel like they were hovering, yet responded unobtrusively before we asked for anything. If I thought about refilling wine glass, they beat me to it! The service was better than any we have experienced elsewhere...and we dine out frequently. Our evening at République is in our top three Hall of Fame dining experiences.

MY WIFE AND I PICKED REPUBLIQUE AS THE DINNER HOUSE TO CELEBRATE OUR 62ND ANNIVERSARY. THEY FIRST SEATED US IN THE BACK SECTION WHICH WAS EXTREMELY DARK! I ASKED TO BE MOVED TO THE FRONT WHICH IS A VERY SPECIAL SPACE BUT LOUD. A GREAT SPOT TO HAVE A MEAL. HOWEVER, THE LAMB WHICH WAS TOUTED AS THIS HUGE HELPING WAS NOT AND WAS COOL TO BOOT. THE OTHER STUFF WAS DIFFERENT BUT MY WIFE LIKED THE SALAD...I FOUND IT TO BE OK. THE SERVICE WAS OUTSTANDING! BIG STAFF! WOULD NOT GO AGAIN BUT WOULD RECOMMEND TO FRIENDS FOR THE ARCHITECTURE AND NOT THE FOOD.

Very LA very pretentious; the maitre'd checked me in then proceeded to ask me if I had already checked in - literally 5 mins. AFTER i had checked in - wtf? Our waiter was not as attentive as we had hoped but everyone who helped at our table was. Oh, and Republique, word of advice. You are by NO MEANS 2 dollar signs - please change your dollar price rating. Please and thank you.

Food was unique and fantastic. Dinner in the common area is noisy. Only major problem was a pushy sommelier, about whom I complain to management and problem resolved. Other areas of restaurant are more suited for dinner conversation.

My wife and I had a great experience at this restaurant. The only thing I'd say is there needs to be a little more lighting to see the menu. As the 2 couples beside us had there phones out to read the menu. The light was annoying.

Stupendous!!! Republique could be chaotic. But the staff handles the mob with aplomb. Food as always superb. Worth every hundred dollars.

Republique is the best dining experience I've had in LA. Chip's & Dip, the Cauliflower and the Butternut Squash Agnolotti were all fantastic and daring. The bread with butter and bread with pan drippings were good...not great as advertised. The beef short rib was the only boring dish of the night. The white chocolate sabayon was edible art for dessert.

This is one of the few "fancy" restaurants in Los Angeles that I think is actually worth the price. Not a single thing is anything short of completely delicious. Kudos.

I went there to celebrate my friend’s birthday. I sent an email to make a reservation for dinner and cake, they gave me a very kind and prompt replies. Also every servers and workers were really kind and friendly. I am sure that i would recommend this restaurant to my friends. Love this place a lot!!!!
