Centered in the heart of Los Angeles, the historic building in which it resides was originally erected in 1929 by Charlie Chaplin, and later transformed into the iconic La Brea Bakery and Campanile Restaurant. République builds on this storied past, offering a gastronomic environment imbued with history and grandeur. The space features a casual bakery, café, and bar in the front with a more formal dining area located in the rear, serving a French-inspired menu created daily by our chefs.

    Republique is always sensational. After dinner, looked at the after dinner drink menu and adjourned to the bar where I enjoyed a 12 year aged calvados. Not many places in LA that will have this great selection, or such great service, or such fantastic menu.

    Not my favorite food of all time. Quite interesting flavors. You can tell the quality is incredibly high so no complaints there, just didn’t love all the flavor combinations. Wouldn’t take it too harshly, probably just an unrefined pallet.

    It was my pre-Bday dinner and my Parents pre-Anniversary. We had phenomenal experience especially with the Service. It seems all the staff were trained well with how to provide excellent service. Food was great as well and something different from all the food I tasted. My over all experience was excellent! Bravo!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙌🏻

    It was my second and I believe the last experience with Republique. I had a reservation for 6 people at a communal table. Instesteat we were sitting at the absolutely isolated table on the second floor with minimal service and almost no attention. The management was coarse and not able to communicate in a proper way. They didn't try to solve the situation to satisfy their guests. They were only trying to explain why they couldn't do this or that. Very very disappointing!!!

    Parking spoiled all the impression! I spent 15 minutes in the line for valet parking. After dinner - a line to get the car from parking, 15 minutes again. Seriously? Even if the parking is provided by third party it is still seen by the customer as the restaurant’s convenience. Waisted 30 minutes is not convenient. Food was ok, I’ve been to this restaurant before for lunch and breakfast and was under better impression. Dinner menu is very brief. Tried Beef Cheek that was tender and flavorful, the vegetable salad was great. Cocktail that I ordered did not meet my expectations. Atmosphere in the restaurant is very warm and welcoming. We were comfortable to talk on the second floor.

    The bread with pan drippings came highly recommended, but was a little salty for me. Anything Wagyu is a good choice and the roasted chicken with mustard jus was very good.

    Lovely experience with delicious, interesting and tantalizing food and cocktails! The pear cocktail was superb and a great way to begin the meal! Chef Walter Manzke dropped by the table and made the evening complete with his usual warmth and effervescent smile. Lovely evening!

    While it was a cool evening our outdoor table was comfortable enough and the space heaters kept us from needing to eat with our coats on. The food was as good as always and our server was friendly and attentive. She helped guide us through the menu and we especially appreciated her telling our vegetarian/pescatarian about the presence of chicken stock and pork gelatin in dishes that on the surface would appear okay. The outdoor space is not as beautiful as the building inside but it is easier to have a conversation and that was a plus.

    I pride myself on being a foodie and am embarrassed to say this was my first time dining at Republique. The menu sounds so delicious it’s hard to choose! Being able to share everything made it a bit easier and each dish we ordered did not disappoint. Caution on the baguette. It’s hard not to devour it. We ordered the spiny lobster that was perfectly cooked and came with a delicious sauce and oven roasted tomatoes. Dover sole came next with yummy puréed potatoes and we finished the meal with light as air agnolotti stuffed with purée of cauliflower in a Maine lobster sauce. Alas, there wasn’t room for dessert but we will be back for it!!!

    Reservation was sat late and not in area reserved. The high tops across the front window are rather uncomfortable and staff and guests repeatedly bumped into me. The food was described as family style but tapas may be more accurate, and for the price it’s just not much food at all.

    I think we have had better choices, but we decided to go there because there were so many good reviews. Simply disappointed and have had much better exciting meals and experiences with other chefs.

    Republique never disappoints. Service and ambiance are great (as oldsters, we prefer the back room which is quieter) but the food is stellar. Shared small plates create such a special experience.

    This was my first time dining at Republique. I was promptly seated. The service was punctual and very efficient. My server Rebecca ensured I had everything I needed, including a scrumptious baguette to soak up the sweet potato angliotti sauce and the duck reduction. Both of which were savory and delicious. The yakomoto oysters were very fresh with plenty of mignonette vinegar and lemon. For desert I had the ginger custard tart which reminded me of pumpkin pie. Perfect for Fall. I definitely would return!

    Grabbed a 9:45 res after another restaurant did not honor our booked reservation. Arrived early, was sat at 10pm at a tiny table next to the server station window. Our server barely fit between our table and the next and was a bit clumsy with clearing, stacking dishes on the table before removing. Drink service took a while. There was no seafood entree options or specials so we ordered two pastas on top of the oysters, leek with vinaigrette, mushroom tart, fries, and baguette. As a classically trained French chef the mushroom tart was a disappoint as were both pasta dishes. The sauce in the lobster Campanella was overly salty and the pasta was not consistently cooked. Some chewy, some soft. There was no basil, at least that I could taste. The Arugula casarecce was forgettable, frugally sauced and garnished. The tart was flat and buttery, very dense. Not flaky, or anything I would call a tart and the shaved mushrooms were raw and overpoweringly earthy. The wine service was thoughtful and successful, but the execution could use work. Our server was sweating and overworked with too many tables, and he did. It seem to have support from bussers as he cleared our dishes himself. When I have a bill that high, I expect the service level and execution of the menu to be at a higher level. I doubt I’ll be back with so many other restaurants in LA to give the opportunity for my business, you really only get one shot in this town to leave a first impression. On a side note, I was so gassy shortly after this meal and the next morning it was both painful and comical. I am not sure what I had to cause such a reaction to but suffering from gastric distress after a rich meal is not typically something I experience or expect.     We had .. Drinks Celery - mild, strong notes of celery + perhaps celery salt Roasted tomato - sour and mildly sweet, didn’t taste tomato Cucumber - light and refreshing Dinner Baguette and butter - fresh, warm bread : crunchy outside, soft inside. French butter was good, as always 4 oysters - fresh, sweet and it came with lemon wedges and vinaigrette. Wish I had more toppings like horseradish Matsutake tarte fine - this was a disappointment. Toppings lacked taste and not enough sauce. Liberty duck - reduction sauce was good, though the duck slice was so minimal for the money. We expected a full breast but it was a quartered!
