Coal Lounge and Grill
Our meal was excellent! This place is an instant favorite for my wife and I with the best seasoned beef and lamb that we have ever had from a restuarant.
We loved the decor of this place. The food was good and the wonderful spice combinations weren't too "hot", and very tasty. We enjoyed the music, which mostly was at a level that allowed conversation. We'll definitely go back!
I cannot rave about the experience nor the food at Coal enough! Amazing value, excellent food, great atmosphere and ambiance, friendly staff and the Chef comes out to speak to everyone. This place is absolutely, hands-down amazing.
An amazing restaurant from start to finish. I recommend highly. The service was stellar and the menu was thoroughly explained. The food was fantastic. The chef came out to chat which was such a unique touch that you don't see often any longer. Very friendly and super talented. Coal is a must location to try & to frequent! You will not be disappointed!
Delicious food, beautiful setting, excellent music (but not too loud).
I love the vibe and food was great. I will definitely be back very soon. This is a must for date night or just a relaxing evening with friends and hood food
So different from your run-of-the-mill restaurants. Menu is limited, but quality is outstanding. Seating is so comfortable & relaxing. Have already spread the word & will return next week.
Food was excellent. Would recommend and will be back.
Unfortunately they had staff call out tonight, so service was slow but the owner took care of us and couldn’t have been nicer. The ambiance is really cool and the food was delicious!
The chef was really nice. My family and I enjoyed the food and the new experience eatting at a West African restaurant. We told jokes as we waited for our food since it is cooked to order and we did not mind one bit. We look forward to eat to,g there again
A very different and unique experience. The food is West African which is pretty spicy, but I am sure a request to adjust the spice would not be a problem. The menu is limited but then it is made to perfection.
The seating is at long low glass-topped plank tables lined with a settee on one side and two hassocks on the other side. This was a little awkward only because you need to hold the plate while eating from it. However, this is part of the uniqueness and what made it such a fun experience.
The chef came to our table and we chatted for at least 20 minutes with him. A very charming young man with a wonderful passion to share his love of his native African food.
All four of us in our group agreed we will most definitely return.
Friendly staff, great atmosphere. Highly recommend.
A small menu but great options and excellent flavors. Didn’t realize it was BYOB but fortunately there is a good wine store around the corner. The staff was very friendly and the chef came out to talk with everyone. It was great to hear a little bit of his story.
We absolutely loved the food and ambience! Unfortunately our waitress was not super attentive to our large table and when our dinners came out it came out in shifts. First the lamb dishes, then the beef a few minutes later then lastly the chicken and veggie dishes. By the time all the food was out the first few people were done eating. The quality and value was awesome just too bad the service wasn't better.
Tired of going to Italian, want a change. Coal is the answer. When you walk in you are transported to Ghana, Africa. The ambiance is fantastic. The service was excellent. If you are not familiar with the food the staff was more than willing to explain the dishes.
We had a great time.
Small menu but it packs a punch. Lots of interesting spice combinations and everything was well-prepared. BYOB and their hibiscus and ginger drinks make great drink bases if you want to add some rum or vodka. Casual couch seating throughout. Great for relaxing and sharing a bunch of dishes. I don't have a thorough analysis, but the menu seems pretty favorable to people avoiding gluten.
We really didn't know what to expect but were very pleased. Very good food excellent service.
The menu is small but the flavors are big! Food is perfectly cooked with a spicy finish but not too spicy. The plantains were wonderful and the atmosphere is lovely. Tables with sofas on one side and ottomans on the other. We will definitely keep coming back!
Great spot! Wonderful vibe for the area! We forgot that it was BYOB, but still really enjoyed the fruit infused Ginger Me/Sobolo drinks. The food was well-presented, flavorful and full of spice (if you like spice!). Staff was friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back to try other dishes on the menu and enjoy the ambiance!
BYOB Good food to pair with red wines!
Live music that night, Very nice jazz trumpeter.
