Wako Japanese Restaurant
The seating capacity is 22 guests at a seating. We cannot accept reservation more than 4 guests.
All guests will be served with the same Omakase.
While we do our best to accommodate with your dietary restrictions, we do not have vegetarian or soy-free options. Please let our servers know of any allergies or special requests.
Tables are elbow to elbow style and my personal preference is not to be so close to neighbor eaters. Also, I had to ask for another drink after I finished first one.
Food is delicious and on another level of great which makes me always want to return.
Fantastic omakase experience with a few creative touches to really make it special!
The Omakase #2 with sake pairing was exquisite.
Service was outstanding- fish was very fresh and simple. No bold flavors
We always have a great time at Wako, fantastic food, warm reception, excellent service, everything is
consistently kept at the highest level.
Every bite was thoughtfully prepared. The wait staff were graceful, attentive and well timed. I appreciated they didn't push alcohol or add ons. They asked once and then let us be.
Everything was amazing and it felt like a true Japanese dining experience. We went to Japan earlier this year and we kept talking about how everything reminded us of something there.
The confetti for the birthday dessert was a nice surprise.
Excellent omakase meal. Although expensive, it is below others in the city. Wish there was still an a la carte only option but understand why the smaller space doesn't allow it.
Tomo-san and staff great as always
-Celebrated Birthday with cute surprises
-Food was absolutely delicious
-Kind & Friendly Staff
Best sushi in SF!
Wako is a fabulous place for an omakase meal. The dishes are based on traditional ingredients, even if presented with a bit of contemporary flair. The ingredients are of the highest quality, and the preparation is artistic, but subtle. The service is friendly and very professional. The restaurant is small but not cramped. Each table has enough space to have some privacy. Last but not least, the clientele are "real people", not all on a company expense account, but couples and small groups of friends. While this is a top-notch place, the prices are very reasonable as there are two omakase menus to choose from, including a less expensive selection with fewer courses, but still very satifying.
This is the finest omakase restaurant I have been to in SF and rivals the omakase restaurants anywhere in the world. Highly recommended.
We ate at the sushi bar (shorter Omakase experience) and it was Outstanding. Service and food was exceptional. The restaurant is small and intimate, which elevates the experience. Top level - highly recommended!
Went for my birthday with family. Food was delicious , seafood was fresh. Service was excellent!
Amazing food. Each bite was a masterpiece. This is my new favorite restaurant. The fish was delicate and flavorful, each piece better than the last. The combination of flavors was perfectly balanced and expertly created. We sat at the sushi bar and watching the process of creating each bite was entertaining. The chef and the waiter were so nice. I want to go here for every special occasion now.
Absolutely incredible. Worth every penny. A truly memorable meal and experience.
Great food and service. Dishes and very delicious and delicate. Best tasting experience I’ve have. Strongly recommend for omakase.
A word of advice: you have to request counter seating BEFORE you get there on weekend. Call it in. I was under the wrong impression that it was first-come-first-served.
Great evening. Thank you.
Amazing omakase. The ingredientes felt so pure, and savory. Incredible variety of seafood. Come here if you want to get a fully traditional japanase experience!
Found hair in the food. The first pieces of sushi are poor quality. Won't go again.
We went for our anniversary dinner and the food, for being a Michelin Star restaurant, was just ok. For both of us, it seemed that there were flavors like ginger and wasabi that overpowered our palettes so all we could taste was that and not the fish. Also our waitress was soft spoken so with the noise level in the restaurant, we could barely hear her. And we went thinking we would have really good sushi like at another omakase but it was somewhat of a let down.
Excellent food and thoughtful service. Special occasion for sure!
We had a wonderful evening at Wako. We sat at the sushi counter and enjoyed personalized experience with sushi chef. Very fresh sashimi. Reasonably priced omakase. Only disappointment was the dessert.
This place was incredible. Would recommend for anyone who loves sushi.
One of the best omakase experiences I’ve had in the Bay Area, and it was reasonable in price. I would come back for another dining experience!
Traditional style Japanese sushi preparation. Blue Fin Tuna items memorable. Nothing special about Omegase menu or preparation. Smaller size fish portion on each piece of sushi.
Excellent food and attention to detail.
Amazing sushi. Great experience. Loved it!
Wako provided the best omakase sushi experience. The food had amazing flavors and was beautiful. The service was impeccable and friendly. I would definitely eat here again for an elevated yet casual/comfortable experience.
The experience was great. When we sat down, our attendant asked to ensure the restaurant knew we were celebrating a birthday (we’ve been to restaurants which actually forgot this even though we entered this information into the reservation notes) and the crew made it a special night by adding the celebratory events on top of the good food, service, and ambiance.
It was a very disappointed experience, not worth the price.
Absolutely amazing! Tomorrow is a sushi artist!
Amazing cuisine, art-ful plating, and food that is as lovely to look at as it was delicious to eat. We also appreciated the fact that it was quiet enough for us to have a wonderful conversation in this cozy, warm, hidden gem. We lived in Japan for 5 years so we are very particular about high-end Japanese food. Wako exceeded all our expectations.
We came to celebrate my retirement, they stamped "Congratulations" on our menu (taken home as a souvenir). The even decorated the dessert plate!
We came last year for our anniversary, and had similar treatment.
The food is to die for; we've tried other Japanese restaurants known for their Omekase (fixed price) menus, and this is by far the best, most succulent bites! Nothing ordinary about the taste and flavor of the fish. We were pleasantly stuffed by the end of the meal.
The sushi was yummy, but I think you’d have to be a sushi expert to tell the difference between several of the bites. The 3 flight meal gets old after about the second flight. Everything is excellently cooked and beautifully presented. I just cannot tell the difference when everything tastes like horseradish. Maybe that’s just me.
Such fine dishes and sushis. Great value. I will go again for sure
The staff were really friendly and chef tomo san really has a great attention to detail. The sushi experience was better because of some training the chef had in kaiseki which were incorporated in the middle of the course. Overall, amazing experience.
