Ristorante Saraceno has been a go to place for my family for the past several years. The food is consistently good and the red sauce, the staple of any Italian restaurant is good. In addition, it is 3 doors down from Mike's Pastry which is a definite stop every time we go to Boston. However, we were at the restaurant on 8/10/19 and had an experience that might cause us to not return. We were seated in the lower level back in the far reaches of the restaurant, and then ignored by the wait staff. It took 20 minutes to get drinks and another 40 minutes to get appetizers, then every dinner came out separately over 15 minutes. To add to that, despite requesting a 2nd drink we never got it. Then the capper was my meal. I ordered the fried seafood plate and asked for it over linguini. I got a handful of linguini and a mountain of fried seafood (calamari, shrimp and scallops) that were so dry and just bad. Maybe we will give it another chance but this was a disappointing experience.
One of our favorites. Whenever we are in Boston we always come for dinner. Food is excellent and the atmosphere has the wonderful feeling of a little Italian home. There's no place like it.
Very nice place for a birthday!
It was simply awesome. We can’t wait to go back😎
A friend recommended Ristorante Saraceno to us, when we told him that we would be traveling to Boston. He told us that it was his favorite in the North End and that he had always had a great meal. When we got to the restaurant, my husband and I recognized it as the Italian restaurant that we had gone to during our honeymoon in Boston 24 years ago! The owner showed us downstairs to the small table that we had dined at 24 years ago and sent us complimentary Limencello to enjoy after our meal. Our entire family had a wonderful time and enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere.
Nothing very special. Crowded north end restaurant. Very busy. Waiter had so many tables in his defense he couldn’t take care of everyone. They forgot about our bread without a reminder. House wine by the glass was not cheap and mediocre.
It wasn’t horrible but I wouldn’t rush back. Caesar salad was doused in dressing, shrimp dinner had about 5 little shrimp. Eggplant was good.
Very noisy and difficulty with restaurant temperature control
2nd time dining here and will be back again. Ristorante Saraceno gives the quintessential north end experience! Right on Hanover street, the restaurant has big windows that open up to the street for an immersive meal. Knowledgeable staff and the menu includes all the classics. The downstairs space is beautiful, and gives off that old time-y authentic feel. Ambiance- check, food- check!
This is our favorite restaurant in the North End. Delicious food, great service, always attentive to our needs at the time. What more can a person ask for!!
Very enjoyable great appetizers, dinner, desserts, and wine
Took over 30 minutes to even get drunk order taken.
Another great spot in the North End. Great food and the layout is fascinating if you prefer older buildings. I highly suggest the house wines! nothing on the menu will disappoint!
Food was delicious. But service was very very slow.
Great authentic Italian food, good portions, friendly staff, overall wonderful experience.
Delicious authentic food, charming ambiance, great service!
Excellent food and service.
Booked last minute reservation on open table on Saturday night. Seated right away at table in basement which we were thankful for because we had our 2yo with us. Didn’t feel like a basement though. Ambiance was great. Food came right away. Fettuccine Alfredo and the veal saltimbocca. Both fantastic! Can’t recommend enough!
Amazing food, we had such a nice waiter and it was a really great dining experience!!! Only things: I wish there was music instead of silence and the bread as a starter was a little cold but seriously those are very knit picky thing. It was great overall!!
In town on our last night of vacation, we were looking for an Italian meal after a week of lobster in Maine. We ordered the lasagne and the eggplant parmesan. The portions were huge but the food was just ok, nothing special. The owner said they use family recipes, and he still has family in Italy, but maybe the recipes need updating. The atmosphere was cute with tight seating on the main floor. It looked like some diners were seated downstairs but we didn't go there. It was a super hot evening but the ac kept us cool which was a relief.
Love Saraceno. Brought a colleague for lunch this time and it was great. Dishes made to order, wait staff extremely professional and friendly. We'll be back and you should go there too!
Outstanding ambience, service and food!
A bit of a disappointment
Eggplant Parmesan was delicious
Gnocchi were terrible (no pillows here) but sauce was fabulous
Saltimbocca portion small but price appropriate
Red wine served at wrong temp
Seems like this place may be past it’s glory days
Cute. Small. Good food. Great service. Fair price. Great wine. Not many tables. Family restaurant.
Quaint and inviting restaurant, however very noisy and average food.
This was my second visit to Ristorante Saraceno. The meal was spectacular. They have a wide variety of choices and everything is amazing.
Typically Italian food, lasagna was meaty the way my wife likes it. Price was a little high for pasta.
Always a favorite when we’re in town. Excellent. We tell all our friends outside of Boston when they come here come to Saraceno!
We were looking forward to dining at this restaurant but it went downhill from the start. When we went in there was an empty table right by the window but some guy in a white jacket (maitre d ?) said it was reserved (didn't we reserve) and motioned us to follow him. He proceeded to take us to the back basement right by the busboy station and on the path to the bathroom. Delightful! The food was okay but not memorable, the wine was nice and the service was good. The only thing to stand out was the espresso. In any case we did not linger and when we left the table by the window was still vacant. Maybe those diners were speed eaters but I'm thinking no. With all the wonderful restaurants in the North End there is no reason to return.
Every time we visit Boston (we live in Minneapolis), we go to this restaurant. Never get disappointed!
Amazing food! We were on the roof and ambiance was beautiful. They were a bit short staffed, but would definitely come back.
Table for 7 was upstairs in a beautiful room and slightly separated from other tables to allow for bright conversation without disturbing other diners. Wine list is terrific, our servers were attentive, and the food is the best the North End has to offer. Compliments to the chef and all who make Saraceno a warm and friendly place
Love it here. Ambience is perfect. Wonderful food. Friends come to town that i have taken here and they always ask to go back.
The food was delicious. Can’t wait to visit again !
Saraceno’s is one of our favorite restaurants in Boston’s North End! The mussels and eggplant Parmesan never disappoint. The staff is friendly and receptive but the noise level can be intense. This past time we had dinner next to some people that were incredible loud, asking if there was an all-cash discount, sort of dampened the mood!
The service was poor and the fish was not fresh. The “standard” Italian dishes were good, but the specials were not good. The ambiance downstairs was dark with really low ceilings, and that made it really noisy.
Much better than I expected. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and the price was right.
We were a group of 4 and all 4 of us loved our dinners ! Definitely will be back next time in Boston -
Sat by the open sidewalk window. The lobster shrimp special was amazing, had great service, and the portion size was perfect. Great dinner!
I think this is the best restaurant in the North End by far. F
