What Insiders Are Saying
Come to Kokkari Estiatorio in the Financial District to feel like a big shot. Maybe even throw on a suit and tie. It's a Greek temple of lamb.
Tutto perfetto, locale, cibo, personale. Bisogna andarci per riconcigliarsi con il cibo e la qualità europea
Great service and recommendations.
Excellent food that's reasonably priced. Loved the restaurant.
I had been to Kokkari once before with my family, so when my boyfriend and I were planning a trip to sf this past few days I thought this would be perfect for our dinner. The food was amazing as well as the whole experience!! It is pretty pricey so be aware of that before choosing to dine there, but if you are a foodie like us it is totally worth it. :) highly recommend the kalamari!!!
I loved the food. Definitely will be back. I was there for a business meeting, but equally I’ll be great for a date too.
Fish and souvlaki where excellent service was attentive good afternoon peace and quiet
I've been to Kokkari a few times for business lunches and I don't get the hype. The decor, service, location and ambiance were great, but the food was just okay. I've had the same impression on my previous visits.
Fabulous food and ambiance. However, our server was extremely condescending and unprofessional which made us feel uncomfortable. We wanted to stay for what looked to be an amazing dessert menu but we were too uncomfortable. Disappointing way to end our time in San Francisco, but overall we had a wonderful experience. We will definitely be back (although hopefully with a different server)
Never, ever disappointed at Kokkari! Food was perfection, our server was very helpful & knowledgeable about wine selection & the Greek dishes we weren’t familiar with.
We always love when we visit kokarri. If you haven't been, do yourself a favor and go! The last time we went it was unusually warm for the city and the restaurant was just a smidge warm. Other then that, everything was outstanding!
Wonderful food and our waiter, Peter, was the perfect host.
Great food and service; wonderful place for a business meeting or a romantic outing
Kokkari is hands down the best restaurant in the western half of the United States. Once the best ingredients have been chosen it is not necessary to over medicate the food with elaborate sauces and too many spices. The chefs at Kokkari strike the perfect balance in their preparation. The service is first class: friendly and not intrusive. There is a confidence that all of the staff exude that is based on the knowledge that they serve fantastic food in an unmatched setting to appreciative knowledgeable customers. It’s as if all participants know it is a privilege to be there.
Fabulous food and service. We ate our way through the appetizers and thought we were in heaven. Can’t wait to return (again).
This was our third, and definitely not our last, meal at Kokkari. Each time has been extraordinary--elegance without pretension in the food, the ambience, and the service. Even the simplest dishes are prepared with wonderful attention to detail, but without pretence.
The stone fruit salad was hard peaches and none of the fruit was ripe...no flavor and it is stone fruit season. The spanikopita phyllo dough appetizer was cold and had gone sent back. Overall was expecting much better food flavor.
Great service. Wine choice was outstanding
An all around wonderful experience
Wonderful service and great food. It is my favorite spot for special occasions.
Best waiter I’ve ever had. Please let him know
We had a great experience at Kokkari recently. Love the ambience. The server was very friendly and helpful. We ordered the artichoke, octopus, and apricot salad appetizers which were all amazing. For dinner we had the chicken and sea bass, and our friends had the salmon and lamb. We all loved our meals. Baklava and flourless chocolate cake for dessert were the perfect ending to a perfect evening! Loved it!
It was good but they totally forgot about the birthday which I had mentioned on the open table as a request. So basically it was awkward to ask the waiter to bring a candle with the dessert we had ordered. Food is good but it wasn’t mind blowing! I liked the ambience. Seems pretty popular for some reason. And the place was very well set up.
Food was wonderful, as usual.
Another visit to the Kokkari Estiatorio and another very good meal. Our table started out with appetizers of the watermelon salad and octopus. Both excellent. Wine pours were generous. Server was friendly, attentive and provided the long list of specials and offered good advice. Main courses were salmon, branzino and chicken. All tasty. Only minor complaint was the branzino had more than a few bones left in the fish. However, taste was excellent. Dessert was the flourless chocolate cake and filled pastry with mint soaked apricot pieces on the side along with a scoop of ice cream. Chocolate cake was the absolute best. Filled pastries were also excellent, although the apricots were overly minty to the point they had no apricot taste. Ice cream was good. Great ambience here too. A go to place for a memorable meal.
The last time I dined at Kokkari was about a year ago. While the prices have increased, the quality has decreased. I may have to wait a couple of years before I return. By then, they may realize that competition in the Financial District is steep for the dining dollar. If their prices and the quality do not improve, then they may no longer be in existence.
We created a lunch out of appetizer specials for the day and each was outstanding. Our waitress was very well informed about every menu item. She was helpful and personable. In short, we loved it.
Amazing food, one of the best i’ve ever tried. And staff is very friendly
Amazing experience. Service was old school... Everyone on the staff engaged us to check on our experience at this restaurant. Good was amazing. Rare experience these days. Top notch all the way around. Can't wait to go back.
Lovely staff, fantastic food, a delightful experience
Lovely place when seated in quiet corner, per my request. Great food and service, too.
The entire experience was delightful from starting to finish. The food and dessert selection, presentation, and preparation was outstanding. Our server also made an excellent wine recommendation. We will be back hopefully sooner rather than later!
Frank, Dimetre, Abel and Jeff were all so welcoming. The food was terrific and service impeccable. It’s our favorite go to restaurant! Dine date 7/29/19
Great and healthy food and service! Celebrated my husband’s birthday and he was a very happy man!
This is a fantastic restaurant located in the financial district. Decor is elegant, food is superb and service is nearly perfect. My husband and myself do not have a strong stomach to eat a lot of foods, so are regret to have only 3 dishes; grilled octopus, Napa peach salad, and Ravioli with mushrooms & toasted pine nuts, but all of them are more than our expectation. Service staff is very professional and accurate to respond our needs, especially selection of glass wines and grappa. We spent a wonderful time there.
Definately, we would love to re-visit there with more our friends to share various great dishes. Many thanks.
Anniversary evening... fantastic food!
Excellent location for a special occasion; spouse's birthday. Menu items are all so descriptive and appetizing; our meal experience was great! Service was prompt and attentive. Cost is what I'd expect from a fine dining establishment and this was a special event. Will come back again.
Absolutely one of our favorite restaurants. This evening the service was exceptional!
Beautiful place. Hostess was cold. Food just ok. Service very good. Next time would stick with a bunch of starters and ask waiter for recommendations. Although said it was a birthday lunch did not offer birthday dessert perk or even acknowledge birthday person.
We had the peppers and riblets as starters. The lamb souvladi for an entre was perfect.
