What Insiders Are Saying
Mott Street, a restaurant on Ashland near Wicker Park, serves interesting, delicious Asian-influenced food.
Food came more than one hour after ordered.
Amazing. The kimchi cabbage roll, the broccoli and the cauliflower remain on my tastebuds. One of my favorites
They have the absolute best burger in Chicago! It was actually the best burger we have ever eaten. It’s a little messy, but it’s worth getting your hands a little dirty. If you go, get the burger. You will not regret it.
Have driven by this place a thousand times and finally tried it for dinner. The food is very unique, everything we ordered came out in a timely manner and paced well through the meal. We tried the imperial rolls, scallops, Mott st burger, rabbit, udon kimchi noodles — the rabbit was by far the best thing we tried. Atmosphere is very noisy inside with the windows open so wouldn’t be great for any guests hard of hearing or where you want to visit a bunch. But liked the concept. Food was great, service was so-so. We’d finished our meal and waited about 20 minutes to locate our server and ask for the check, wish he wouldn’t have disappeared on us like that but overall not bad. Unique neighborhood spot.
We came from france to visit Chicago. Mott Street was definitely the best restaurant we went to: thoughtful service, amazing creative food based on quality products, chill and relaxing atmosphere. I definitely recommend
Service was poor. Asked to order everything at the same time and then it all came out very quickly at almost the same time and we had 6 plates on our table. Next time we won’t order all at once because it basically ruined the meal
Food is good the plates are expensive and small you have to order a lot of dishes or leave hungry. My husband was raiding the refrigerator the minute we came home.
2nd time been there and tried more dishes. Stuffed cabbage was really tasty. Didn't care for Steamed dumplings though as they were pretty hard and dry. Other good dishes included Skewers (Shrimp and Pork Belly), Bone Marrow, etc.
Food was all very good; drinks not so much. When you charge $6 for a tiny glass of orange juice, it should definitely be fresh squeezed...we weren't convinced. The Mottmosa was bland and the bloody Mary was very clumping for some reason. The wok-smoked gailan was the favorite dish at the table. Atmosphere is so charming
Best burger in Chicago! We also had the scallops and broccoli which were also fantastic. We always sit at the bar and the staff is always friendly. Mott Street is a must try!
Super awkward service that continued throughout a variety of server changes. Let’s just saw we got two plates before our wine came out... The food was downright bad (we had been before) - the rice was extremely bland and dry, the pork jowl was so salty it burned your mouth, the wings were a flat note of soy sauce and were overcooked (the meat was legit dry), the scallops were the only interesting dish were cooked and seasoned correctly. Then we had the dumplings (fine), and the cabbage that had rice on the top that wasn’t “crispy”, it was actually burnt to the point that you couldn’t chew it/ it was sharp and could cut your mouth if you weren’t careful. The meat inside the cabbage was fine if crock pot pork is supposed to be special. They did the opposite of pace the meal - we felt like we were being blasted with piling plates of mediocre food. I think their reputation has proceeded them and they’re more interested in turning tables than providing a decent meal. Used to be an awesome spot in the neighborhood that has become another Chicago “hot” place to be with crappy food and service.
Great food, absolutely horrible service. So bad that I wouldn't go again, or recommend to a friend. I also had to basically "fight" with the waiter to get him acknowledge my complaints--meanwhile, the table next to us had the SAME complaints, and were given free food, drinks, and apologies throughout their meal.
Service was slow. Many times our waitress was no where to be found, which is difficult considering the meals are not coursed and are served as they come out. White wine served lukewarm, cocktails weak. Some plates were great, while others were underwhelming.
Servers and wait staff were extremely rude and hostile
It was very good!
Every time I dine at Mott Street I am blown away by the food and dining experience! Not only is literally everything on the menu delicious, but the ambiance (out door patio) and service exceptional! Thank you, Mott Street, for a very delicious meal!
Cocktails were good - the dishes tasted very fried, overloaded with sauce - like Chinese takeout. Expected more out of this place.
My girlfriend and I shared 5 dishes, 2 cocktails, and a dessert and we were STUFFED. All but one item on that list thoroughly impressed us. The rabbit laap and pork sisig large dishes were our favorites, both very complex and both VERY tasty. The pork jowl medium dish and tofu small dish were also very good, both hitting on the sweeter notes. The Nam Prik Rita was my favorite cocktail, spicy and full. The dessert was also a very refined spin on mango sticky rice. All elements of it weren’t that special alone but with then combined, the flavor was just right. Mott St has become one of my top 4 restaurants in the city, up there with Kitsune, Avec, and Roister. Thank you Mott St and thank you Lindsey for an AMAZING experience.
Good menu recs from the staff. Food was amazing!! Bar service was a little slow but it was a Friday night and super packed. Good vibes all around.
The food was incredible. Our server was very helpful!
Incredible food and service. We loved the Mott burger the most. We will definitely be back!
Good food and setting. I was disappointed when I asked to add a person and was told there was no room and then sat at a table for about 20 people with 14 empty seats for the duration of the meal.
Love the place so calm and nice to spend the night with friends. Highly recommended
Solid as always. Their fish was excellent and well executed. The sticky rice dessert was also delightful.
Food was incredible. Service was great. Perfect amount of food. Can’t stop thinking about it tbh.
I have and I will! The food is so complete in flavor and quality!
I made a reservation for my birthday brunch with a group of friends. We got there a bit later than the reservation time but we were seated promptly when everyone got there and the staff were very accommodating. It took a while to get our orders in though -- not sure if it was because we were nearing the end of service for brunch / the staff was sort. I felt like our server wasn't as attentive to us. The food was amazing! I will definitely come back for dinner. The serving size was great. I left content and not too hungry or full. I put in a note to bring out a birthday dessert if possible but maybe because it was brunch / close to closing they didn't bother to bring anything out. We ordered dessert anyway and it was interesting but not something I would order again. There was a storm rolling in and we were dining outside but our server seemed like he wasn't in a rush to get our check and leave. Overall, the food and atmosphere was great (the succulents are so beautiful!) but service could have been better.
As usual the food was great. But took forever to get our drinks and the waitstaff was slow and unhelpful throughout the meal.
We must have ordered wrong. Everyone around us really enjoyed their dishes but ours were mediocre. We really looked forward to coming here based on the reviews. We ordered the wings (good and the best of the meal), Brussel sprouts (okay, not many crispy leaves, relatively bland), and the whole fish (branzino) which was in a tamarind sauce. This was very bland, the sauce added very little to the dish. The accompanying rice was quite tasty. Our table neighbors got the burger which looked amazing. Based on everyone else’s reaction to their meals, maybe avoid what we ordered and give this place a try?
As I walked in l thought it was very crowded and noisy but when I sat down l became more calm and the food made up for the slight noise
Incredible food, was not disappointed.
The food was a series of dishes near the quality of a pho takeout place near Argyle. There was nothing more interesting than that, except for the junkie that stumbled in off Ashland and danced around in the patio and threw his garbage around the tables before they sent a nervous hostess to shoo him off.
Branzino was great.
We were disappointed to learn they don't serve their burger unless you are sitting at the bar or unless its from 6-7 PM. We went there for the burger so even though the rest of the food was pretty good it was overall disappointing. It's unclear to me why people sitting at the bar 10 feet away from me could order the burger but I couldn't.
Went back after a not so great experience and had a really solid second time around. Great food, great drinks. Excellent burger.
Mott St. was fantastic. Outside of a hiccup when we walked in with seating arrangements and high chairs, the experience was great. One of the best burgers I've had in a long time.
The Mott Street burger was unreal, easily the best burger I have ever had. I definitely think it is better than Au Chevals' burger. Bold statement I know, make the decision for yourself!
Food was great but the service unfortunately ruined the experience. Our server was super sweet however we never saw her. We waited twenty minutes for her to initially come over for the first time and take our order. After she delivered our first course we never saw her again until we asked for the check. Mid-meal we paused so we could order another round of drinks for the last two courses. After waiting another twenty minutes for her to come over so we could order a drink we gave up and decided to eat the last course which at that point was freezing cold. The hot food we did eat was delicious but unfortunately the almost non exsistent service really threw the entire meal off.
Great service. Amazing food. Can't wait to return.
Everything we ordered was delicious and my out-of-town foodie friends were really impressed. We sat on the patio which was lovely and the service was outstanding!
