Trattoria Il Panino
and back of the house form a desirable marriage. The entrance on 260 Hanover street has a full liquor license.
Food was great. Service wasn’t. Had reservations and they sat people they knew with out reservations before us . Waiter broke a glass and landed on my leg and under my chair and didn’t clean up. The waiters were swearing in Spanish like crazy. Won’t be back
Excellent food. Waitress was exceptional. Great wine and great table.
This is my go-to North End Restaurant - love sitting outside and ordering one of their lobster pasta dishes. Bibb salad was great as well. My eating companion had the lobster ravioli in crab sauce and I had the lobster fra diavolo. Both great. Lobster not very big, fyi.
Only suggestion is to go (Back?) to fresh ground Parmesan cheese, and be sure to offer it.....
We were seated relatively quickly which was great. Our table was downstairs and felt a bit tight. the service was good and attentive. The carbonara spaghetti had too much oil or butter and the fried calamari would benefit from an additional aioli sauce to vary the flavors. I unfortunately would not go back
Well, not everyone could have been treated as well as we were . . . . could they have been?? Valet...BANG!! Seated on time ....BANG!! An awesome "ocean view" table as the manager called it . . . . BANG!!! Our waiter and the rest of the staff .... BANG!!! The food .... as always here .... BANG!!! And this on the craziest busy Saturday night in the North End that I've ever seen in 35 years of coming in town!! We will be back!!
AMAZING food. Best meal I've ever had. Staff was very friendly. High recommend!
Wonderful open air restaurant in the heart of North End. The food and service was wonderful ... I will definitely go back to enjoy again.
Food was delicious, but we were sat right next to the entrance so it was very loud.
Felt rushed. We sat by the kitchen, the traffic in/out was distracting. Food was delicious.
Food was delicious, waiters seem disinterested if you do not order drinks and the bathroom by the kitchen is tiny
Food wasn’t the best I’ve had, but it was great tasting. Did not mind the prices. Waiter was very nice and the service was very quick for how busy the restaurant was.
too loud, too crowded, and host did not acknowledge my girlfriend and I until I told her we had reservations.
We had a great recommendation from a friend but the food was not exceptional. The worst part was the waitress. She was very short with us and rude when I told her the risotto was not good. She checked on us once when we first received our food but then we could not get her attention to tell her that my drink was awful, the risotto lacked flavor and the ravioli was a bit hard. She spent so much time showing the table behind us pictures on her phone that she flew by us and I had to stop her to make her stay and talk to us. I was really disappointed because my friend was visiting the north end for the first time and that was the restaurant we chose.
Great food and service
Great food pretty good service
Fantastic experience! Excellent food and Ari you were amazing!!
We will definitely be back again and again!!
Appetizer and pasta dishes were very delicious. Service was fast but not rushed.
Nice waiter, pretty good food, a lot of hustle and bustle.
Delicious food and a great atmosphere. We requested seating in the basement wine cellar which is a very pretty space and quiet. Highly recommend sitting there. Favorite dishes included shrimp limoncello, Ossobucco, and spaghetti carbonara.
Loved it! Really nice folks and food was delicious!!
Always a great meal. Highly recommend!
While the food was ok, the service was awful. Our waiter rattled off the specials so quickly we weren’t sure what he even said. Never told us which foods were overly spicy ( the mussels, OMG), so that we couldn’t even finish them. One of us had ziti with the meat sauce on the side. The dish was served in the cooking pan, on the cold side with nothing on it. No oil, no cheese, nothing. Just naked. One of our diner’s dinners cane about 10 minutes later than the rest and no explanation was given.
The young woman who was busing the table was efficient and kept checking on us, while our waiter never did.
The veal chop Parmigiana ( not on menu) is excellent. 16 Oz butterflied chop served with penne pasta. Some extra gravy on the side and you’re set.
The food was very good but our service was simply very poor. It took a long time for a waiter to ask for our drink orders and bring our drinks. It took even longer for the waiter to take our order. After we ordered, he did not come back to our table until after we were finished eating, despite the fact that we tried to flag him down for shaved cheese. We all had empty glasses of wine before our meals and would have ordered a second glass if he came to our table. Instead, we just ate our meals with water and were not even checked in on after the meals came out. Luckily for the waiter, we were a party of 6, so 20% gratuity was automatically included.
Way to loud !!!!!! Don’t sit downstairs !!!
We were visiting from out of town and wanted to try a North End Italian restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. My husband ordered the shrimp al limoncello and the ossobuco. I had the zucchini flowers and ravioli porcini. Everything was fabulous! Limoncello and garlic sauce on the shrimp was especially delicious and we soaked it up with bread. Tables were a bit close together and restaurant was crowded, which made it a little noisy, but the entire neighborhood was packed on a Sunday night. Highly recommend the restaurant for both food and service!
Food was great, service was meh, basement seating bad. Upstairs looked nice though.
Great food and atmosphere. Our server was pretty terrible and only came by to get our order and give us the bill. There were no check-ins other than that and we ended up not ordering another bottle of wine because of that.
The food was not good for the price. Was served cold. The service was terrible. The waitress never brought the garnishes requested with our drinks, even after being reminded. She never asked if we wanted another round, and never checked how our meals were until we were finished. I would expect much much more for these prices.
15 minute wait beyond reservation time for a table. Seated in a dark basement next to wait staff violently sorting silverware. Very loud. Waiter seemed unhappy and annoyed that we were at the restaurant.
When we arrived the restaurant was packed. We had reservation for 630pm and were seated 10 min after. Our table was next a large party and it longer than expected for the waiter to make it to our table to greet us. When the waiter did arrive we ordered our drinks and an appetizer. The appetizer arrived quickly and our drinks just before the appetizer. Besides having to wait longer then expected for the waiter the food was excellent. I recommend Trattoria II Panino. I have to say the waiter worked well under pressure and we we generally satisfied by his service. But you should know that during peak times you could feel rushed. We would definitely come back to Trattoria II Panino.
It is always very good. I highly recommend it. Excellent food.
I love this place. My favorite in the North End. The best beef carpaccio I have ever had. It has been a few years since I have been able to go and I was disappointed in the appetizer eggplant lasagna. It use to be another favorite but the recipe was different this time. Too much of a hard thickly grated cheese in the layers. As far as value, I just wish they didn’t charge so much for plain pasta with butter. It’s all my daughter gets but it’s pricey at Il Panino. Service is always good and it is a lively atmosphere
The place is delicious. My husband ordered the ragu, and said it was wonderful. I had carbonara and it was so good. We had a 9 pm reservation, but after walking around the city we were hungry by 8:30. We went in to ask them for availability and they gave us a table 30 minutes early :)
Slim bald host ignored open table request for upstairs dining, near window and that we were celebrating my fathers 70th birthday. Reminded me 800 people eat there on weekend nights and that we were lucky to be seated. Originally seated downstairs and it was too loud so they did let us move to an upstairs table at my request. Never acknowledged Birthday or the lack of honoring open table reservation. Excellent service and delicious food But plenty of other open table restaurants in north end that will honor special requests and display interest in customer service. My fifth and final time eating here due to the disappointing experience last evening.
food overall was good. We had the caprese mozzarella which the mozzarella was the star of the dish. The service was good. The ambiance was beautiful. There is valet but it's more expensive than what I'm used to paying. It is on the pricey side but it was expected. Food definitely made to order. My food tasted better the next day. I give 4 stars.
Our server Angela was beyond amazing
Always a favorite! Introduced my nephew who’s moved to Boston to this yummy place.
This restaurant is basically good. It just seems like it could try a little harder. The dishes were tasty and delicious, but they are very dependent on their “tourist favorites.“ I would’ve like to see them stepping out with more seasonal ingredients. Everything seemed designed for tourists coming and going quickly. For instance, we ordered a Caesar salad and 30 seconds after ordering a premade Caesar salad came out of the kitchen so cold it hurt my teeth. Probably about 2° above freezing, it had been stored in the refrigerator waiting for somebody like me to place the order. And the wine list was so disappointing. I saw lots of delicious wines for over $100 a bottle but for every bit day dining I really don’t like to go over $50. The bottle that the waiter recommended could be generously called “not good.“ I think a restaurant has to try a little harder to put $50 bottles of wine on their list that actually taste good. This one did not. And I know I’m able to buy a decent bottle of wine for $18. Just takes a little effort. What I recommend this restaurant? Yes. Would I go to this restaurant again myself? No. But I’m a snob.
