Overall great experience! Waitstaff is quite kind and attentive, and we thoroughly enjoyed our food. Only complaint is that they were out of both the beer and wine that we initially wanted.
The wait staff was great, food solid.
Initial service by manager was excellent, but once transferred to waiter—he was inattentive. Advertised fresh pasta with truffles, but were canned or used oil. Pasta was quite soft (not al dente or even close) but that might be so to American tastes. Octopus was quite good. Think there are better places out there.
I have not written a review in quite sometime, but this restaurant pulled me out of my slumber.
We have dinned out a lot lately and have enjoyed many fine restaurants but this one I thought was something special. Nothing special about the decor,or the location but what a wonderful experience.
We were greeted by the owner and mastermind of this establishment with a pleasant smile and how do you do and brought directly to our table. The server was very attentive and anything we asked for was handled immediately.
We ordered wine. and at the same time a basket of wonderful crusty bread with olive tapenade was delivered. We shared a charcuterie board. I had the lamb shank which was fantastic and my wife ordered pasta with mushroom and truffle oil.
For desert we did not have time to order because they brought out a terrific tiramisu in honor of my birthday.
There are many fine Italian restaurants in San Francisco and this restaurant does not have the glitz of many of those, but if you want a good meal in a quiet a welcoming place. this is for you.
Had the coniglio.
“Just like Mama used to make” is an understatement, not just because she still cooks.
“Brought tears to my eyes” doesn’t describe the yawning chasm of difference between this and the depth of “great but not what I grew up with” Italian food I’ve been surfing for decades.
Great food, great service, great ambiance, I’ll be coming back for more.
This restaurant is lovely. It's quiet and good for a meeting or a team outing. You can actually have a discussion without screaming. Food is delicious and hot to table. Table service was extremely attentive without being overwhelming. The only issue is that the meals took forever to arrive! I'd estimate 45 mins. That's fine for a leisurely lunch, but for a work or business lunch it's waaay to long.
Food was badly prepared: Kale in soup still had ribs in it, risotto didn’t include what the menu said it would and the fish was way over cooked. My husband had the baked halibut and the seasoning was weird and the potatoes were raw. All in all a huge disappointment.
My husband and I LOVE this place! The food is so good that it’s hard to order different dishes. The Orecchiette pasta is superb and the lasagna is to die for. Aside from the terrific food, the whole wait staff is wonderful - attentive, focused, and truly desirous of your enjoyment. I highly recommend La Briciola!!
We've been here several times as it's a great option when out-of-town guests visit. Our waiter was fantastic and checked on us often enough, but also gave us space and time to catch up with old friends. We felt terrible when we realized it was past closing and we were the only ones left in the restaurant. Our waiter showed tremendous grace and didn't rush us out or make us feel bad for carrying on our conversations. The food is always delicious and they have a great selection of wines. Between the great food and impeccable service, La Briciola continues to be one of our favorite SF restaurants.
Great server! It was my moms birthday and he made sure to make the occasion special for her. Food was great! We will be back.
Love coming here for business lunches. Great service, nice food, ambience. Very consistent high quality.
Had squid ink pasta with seafood. The pasta had nice flavor but the generous portion of seafood was all over cooked. Nice dining room
One of the rare Italian restaurants in the SoMa area, this was a great place to take work colleagues for a celebratory dinner. No cocktails, but definitely an adequate wine list, with beers and Prosecco available. Luca provided us excellent service, and the pasta dishes were all amazing. We'll definitely be back!
This is an out-of-the-way neighborhood gem . The chef is an artist who’s food is as pretty as it is delicious. We never made it past the marvelous polenta trio and the puff pastry. Even the afogato was creative and delicious with a trio of vanilla scoops cover by two (yes ask for an extra shot of expresso). The entrees received great reviews, but after four appetizers, we’ll have to return.
Never a disappointment. Luca and the rest of the staff are fantastic. Charming.
Visiting my daughter in SF and extremely pleased by this off the beaten path SOMA Italian place.
Food was really good but service was a bit slow. We got a table next to the window towards the front of the restaurant and servers rarely came by.
Its Saturday night, we went in with a reservation. The restaurant was basically empty. We ordered from the specials menu and they were out of a 'star' item (shank of lamb). None of the specials were elevated and that surprised us given La Biciola has a 4.2 out of 5 rating on OpenTable. The cannoli shell tasted stale. We ordered coffee expecting a nice Italian roast but it was an Americano because they had not brewed up any coffee. The price was not $$, more like $$$.
On the good side the service staff was EXCELLENT. They need to check the overarching Saturday evening management staff.
We LOVE this place! The food is so good that it's hard to try new things as we have our beloved favorites that we order again and again. We always leave stuffed with food and with a smile on our faces!
Food was pretty mediocre.
Great service. Tasty food. I love this place.
Great as usual. Can’t go wrong here.
Easy atmosphere.. nice team..
The loudest screaming children were running around. Other than that, all good
The starters, grilled squid and minestrone soup were great. The waiters were professional and attentive. The place looks authentic and well run, and quite full on a week night. Our only disappointment was with the truffle pasta, which tasted starchy and didn't have any truffle scent, and the profiteroles which were undercooked. It's only our first time there - we may give it another shot. We so wanted this place to be good.
Yummy and good Italian food
Stick with pasta. Calamari, sword fish over cooked. Didn't taste fresh!
Excellent italian food. Authentic Italian restaurant with great dishes and nice staff. Good location.
We wanted to try a “new” place. Immediately upon entering, we asked ourselves, “Why haven’t we come here before now?” It’s a lovely, even romantic trattoria, with an attentive and jovial staff. The menu and wine list are extensive, including daily specials. Servings are ample and delicious — I’m guessing someone’s mother bequeathed some of the recipes to the chef and restaurant. Yes, it’s that authentic. We will definitely come back. Again and again!
We live in Berkeley but go to La Briciola for Italian! Enough said.
Listen to the recommendations! The menu offers many intriguing options, but the waiters know what you should order on any given night. But if you're stubborn you'll still be fine. Hard to go wrong.
La Briciola is a wonderful find. Warm and cozy atmosphere, great service from a staff that seems to truly care, and delightful Italian food that is the real thing. Highly recommend this place.
Really great service and quiet ambience; unfortunately the food was mediocre.
I make an annual pilgrimage to this standout Italian eatery. A must dine experience.
The food is fantastic! Service is great. It’s a very intimate place where friends can enjoy the food and wine while talking. Love this restaurant!
We just love this place. Luca is the most charming of servers, and you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The lasagna was amazing, as was the burrata and panino. We alway do lunch, but I'm sure dinner is an equally good bet. Alla prossima!
Gian Luca Toshi is by far the most authentic Italian chef in all of San Francisco. His dishes never disappoint, the stewed rabbit is to die for, try it.
To be honest I don't know what the fuss is about over this place. Maybe it's because I spent so much time in Rome (lived there for several months), but the food is mediocre at best and the service is cold and unfriendly. Don't bother.
Great Valentine’s Day spot :)
Good food, nice staff. Will visit again, if in town
