What Insiders Are Saying
A solid North Beach brunch option, which, get this: actually takes reservations. Don't sleep on Park Tavern.
Servers/staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was mediocre and overpriced. At least it was away from the tourists.
The last time I went to Park Tavern was 2 years ago. Since then things seem to have really taken a turn for the worse.
The food service was slow to the point that we had to ask about each individual item ordered because it was averaging about 20 to 30 minutes just to get individual plates on the table.
When the food would arrive, it was either heavily salted, underdone, or cool to the point that it's obvious the plate had been sitting out waiting for someone to bring it to our table.
The manager did acknowledge our poor experience and comp us for two desserts and an entree. But unfortunately, based on our overall dinner, I have no plans to ever go back to Park Tavern again.
Our waitress and other staff were very attentive. We enjoyed our dinner. It was a very warm evening and there is no air conditioning. The noise level was very high, making it difficult to have a conversation and communicate with staff.
The bartender was delightful. Server was fine until he took our order and disappeared. Food took way to long to reach our table. The steak was chewy, pork chop dry, and salmon over-cooked. First time I have been back in 2 years and won't return. So disappointed.
Great place for San Francisco a walk far from the fishermans warf
First time eating at Park Tavern and all I can say is WOW! The quality of the food, the service and the cool surroundings made for a great Sunday brunch. I will definitely be back!
Risotto was pretty bad. Not sure how you can screw up risotto. The other food was fine but nothing to write home about. Server didn’t care enough to swap out a drink that I didn’t like. Hard to find someone to get a water refill. Valet is rude and over charged us for “making him wait” and he “has a life.”
Delicious food and wonderful service from hostess, server, food runner, and even the busboys were super sweet!
We ordered the scallops and steak. The scallops were undercooked and not great and the steak was grisly and fatty and we paid $42!
The salmon and Park Tavern salad and they were good.
Definitely an off night for a place that I usually think is close to perfect. The chicken was flavorless and my husband’s risotto undercooked - and not the al dente the waitress was trying to pass it off as. Extra disappointing as it was my birthday dinner.
This place is so easy to enjoy. The attitude is friendly in a clean and welcoming environment where the food is always good. Their fried calamari is still one of the best around and does not disappoint and they’re deep-fried asparagus were amazing. One of my favorites when I’m looking for a light lunch or supper is the Caesar salad with chicken which is not overdressed with Caesar salad dressing but even the small one is a meal in itself. Steaks are perfectly done and just about everything else on the menu that I ever experience with friends has left us walking out of this restaurant happy and satisfied.
We came for brunch and it was absolutely delicious! A beautiful atmosphere and perfectly crafted plates. We had smoked salmon toast, pancakes, French toast and the bacon and leek scramble. All were perfect! The mimosas were awesome as were the other brunch cocktails. Highly recommend!
I’ve always loved this restaurant but this experience was substandard. The food was good but the entree came almost 30 minutes after we finished the appetizer. We dealt with so many wait staff that it wasn’t clear who are waiter or waitress was. They spent much more time filling our water glasses than giving us the speed and service we needed. It was a disappointment as I was entertaining old friend from out of town and I raved about the place.
Service was super slow. Took over 20 min to get our burgers and they weren’t even that good for an $18 burger :(
WE had a wonderful dinner! The salmon was outstanding and papardelle were excellent. The appetizier with shrimp wrapped in bacon was worth coming back for!
Beautiful bar and restaurant with friendly, efficient service and always outstanding food. Happy hour prices are exceptional for both appetizers and wine.
Such a delightful experience for my husband’s birthday. Arriving early, we were seated immediately. Then the wonderful Sara (bar manager) appeared with two glasses of bubbles. Never feeling rushed, we were able to peruse the menus and consult with Sara about some wines. We started with both the Brussels SproutsChips and the Demons on Horseback. Both were cooked perfectly, tho the chips were a tad too salty. The scallops were divine and one can never go wrong with the poulet noir. We’re already looking forward to a return visit.
The service was excellent - attentive, timely, courteous and knowledgeable. The vibe as that if a private club, warm and a bit frenetic. Our food was tasty, but we were a little disappointed with the portions (the scallops felt more like an appetizer portion than an entree size). The mixed drinks were good but not great. And the desert was mediocre. Overall, we enjoyed it but hoped for a bit more at this price point. We’d go back but would ask a few more questions about the portions and would skip desert.
Love Park Tavern. Enjoyed the food. Menu is a bit limited for brunch, wish they had a lunch menu. Staff cranked up the music making discussion less enjoyable so that was real bummer. Still, would go back.
Our second visit and all four of us loved everything but the noise level.
We had fantastic salmon and an amazing beet salad. The wine list has some very good wines at reasonable prices. We'll go again when we get to San Francisco.
Birthday dinner for a friend, casual mid week.
Lovely dinner at an outside table - service was excellent, cake and sparkling wine on the house at the end of the meal.
Park Tavern is a neighborhood gem!
Very fun place to celebrate something special. The restaurant goes all out to join in the fun. Food is prepared beautifully, and served with professionalism.
Our appetizers were rushed, the drinks came about 5 min apart- the pork was undercooked and they forgot about our side...
overall it was ok, they redid the steak and refunded for the carrots... just not the best experience
The server was less than adequate. He was rude and not friendly at all.
Food was great. Server was rude and unaccommodating, frustratingly slow, he seemed annoyed to be doing his job. I will point out that we are nice enough people who make sure to say please and thank you and look people in the eye. We also have a well-behaved toddler. None of the server's behavior could be explained by us being rude and entitled toward him. Made me not want to go back.
One of the best dates I’ve had in SF due to Park Tavern’s excellent service. The server surprised us with some special accommodations—really set the mood for us. Hands down, some of the best service I’ve had in SF over the last 9 years, period. Will definitely be back again!
This was our first visit to the Park Tavern. Great location and great ambience with a lively bar scene. Service was attentive but the food was extremely slow to come out. One person in our party ordered a chicken dish that was supposed to take 30 minutes but we had to wait an hour for main entrées.
Food was OK, not great. Cocktails were outstanding. This is an expensive restaurant and I don’t mind paying when the service and food are great. Unfortunately, neither was.
MacKenzie, our gracious host, remains a highlight in my choosing Park Tavern (and its sister café, Leo’s). She is a real pro—warm, gracious, and attentive. Our brunch was matched by fine food & service. Thank you!
Really gorgeous place with lovely menu, top-tier efficient service.
Great cocktails and food! The music was a tad loud making it hard for us to hear each other when talking.
Great service all the way around. Waitstaff and servers were very attentive. I did not feel rushed to turn the table.
I have been to Park Tavern three times. The first was excellent but the second was just OK. I took two friends out to dinner last night and I wanted to try Park Tavern again. I wish I hadn’t. The brussel sprouts were excellent. The green goddess salad was good but the warm goat cheese salad was so lemony that I am still puckering today. We ordered the fish and 2 burgers. The burgers were quite good but my fries were so salty I lost my appetite. The fish looked good but the accompaniment looked over cooked and not appealing. The chocolate dessert with cherries was unappealing in the presentation and didn’t taste any better. The sorbet was good. The carrot cake was listed as “birthday cake”. It was served with a lite candle that I extinguished before the waiter could place it on the table. The candle gimmick was silly. When my salad was brought to the table the server placed at the vacant seat next to me and walked away. All in all a disappointing evening. I won’t go back even though they did not charge us for the desserts.
Brunch is the way to go. Unfortunately, the food during dinner service is very disappointing. I'm 0 for 3 on my most recent dinners yet really pleased when I have brunch.
nice for drinks and bar food, but the dinner was a little disappointing.
Wow. We’ve loved the place in the past. We are locals and enjoy the bar fairly often, but haven’t had dinner for some time.
We started with deviled eggs, which were amazing. From there it went down hill. My entree was halibut, over cooked even for me. My companion had scallops; they were ok but the accompaniments were weak. The twice baked potatoes were bland and gummy. The smoked beet salad was watery and missing flavor. What a disappointment.
This was not my first time at Park Tavern. I returned as I have fond memories of prior visits. Overall the restaurant was quite loud. Surprisingly I found the prices to be higher than on prior visits. The food was adequate, but the chicken was extremely salty and the steak as just average. Overall I did not find it to be an amazing dining experience.
Great food and service. Definitely a place to visit.
Delicious food. Every dish was stellar, eggs, Benedict, hash. Was ridiculously loud. We had to yell at each other to be heard.
Love this place. Food is incredible, cocktails are great.
Get the deviled eggs no matter what. You can thank me later. :)
Great food & service in a historic & wonderful setting. Very inventive menu.
