Takeshi Sato worked at a Michelin Star Japanese restaurant in Tokyo and came to Canada in 2011 as the official chef of the Japanese Consulate General in Toronto. Qualified as a tea ceremony, flower arrangement, sommelier, and international sake master, and has more than 20 years of experience as a high-class Japanese chef, as well as the skill and knowledge.

Bar Shozan is an intimate Japanese restaurant on Ossington, offering a menu that highlights authentic flavours and regional specialties. Chef Kohei, originally from Miyazaki in Kyushu, Japan, prepares standout dishes such as Chicken Nanban, Goma Saba, and slow-braised Pork Belly. Guest favourites include Pork Belly Yakiton skewers, Hamachi Crudo, Beef Tataki, Miso-glazed Eggplant, and our hand-chopped, house-made Gyoza.

Bar Shozan’s beverage program is led by Squid-Ti, an Advanced Sake Professional certified in Tokyo under John Gauntner and a Shochu specialist trained through the Japan Sake & Shochu Makers Association in Kagoshima. A second-generation Japanese-Canadian, Squid-Ti bridges traditional craftsmanship and modern creativity through an evolving selection of premium sakes, artisanal shochus, and signature cocktails.

With just 20 seats, Bar Shozan offers a cozy, welcoming space where food, drink, and conversation come together to celebrate the richness of Japanese hospitality.

Yasu is Canada's first Omakase sushi bar. We celebrates the ocean’s best catches and the craft of sushi in its award-winning Toronto eatery; dishes created by Executive Chef and Owner Yasu Ouchi from Osaka, Japan. There is only one menu at Yasu; Omakase style at $195 per person, a Japanese tradition wherein Chef Yasu creates a new menu daily based on the freshest and seasonal seafood available from around the world. The Omakase course consists of approximately 20 items including a kaiseki plate, soup,

Has gluten free options if you let them know ahead of time. While there is cross contamination, they do rinse their hands and wipe their boards in between. Sushi was great, explained the dishes, fun to watch.

Our food was outstanding. I had two special appetizers: takoyaki and salmon tataki which was fabulous - garlic chips! Mains were salmon bibimbap and stir fried beef udon. The beef flavor was powerful. We had an excellent cold sake with our meal.

A wide variety of menu options and choices were made available through a professional and courteous service. The food quality and quantities were excellent and the sushi was very tasty and fresh. A special catering request to mark an anniversary was very well handled. The setting is cosy and calm.
