Persian cuisine - which is NOT Mediterranean, btw - is rare in the SFBA. Bacheeso's/Oakland still serves Mediterranean B/L take-out next door, but the original restaurant is now Persian Nights, serving L/D with its new menu. The hot fresh pita was excellent with the Mast-o-Khiar, spiced yogurt, and the Shirazi Salad (like a Greek salad, but BETTER). Entrees come with Tachin, crispy baked saffron rice (think the toasty socarrat on the bottom of a paella). I had the Ghormeh Sabzi with beef. The beef was very tender, but note the stew is very sour, using the classic dried Persian limes. Spouse had Tahchin Morgh, the toasted rice cake with marinated dark meat chicken pieces, cooked tender - it has no gravy, so we used the spiced yogurt. Turkish coffee was great. The saffron rice pudding, Shole Zard, was a split: spouse liked it, I was so-so on it. I think next time I'll have the baklava instead. Mint tea was great, the fresh mint makes a difference!
