What Insiders Are Saying
It's summer year round at Summer House Santa Monica. Don your finest Lululemon and chambray in an upscale dining environment.
Had a reservation for Easter brunch. When we got there we were seated right away at a great outdoor table. Food and service were top-notch. Sometimes holiday dining can be iffy, but we were very pleased with our experience.
The hostess was slow and very rude. There was a large party standing in front of hostess area blocking the door. As I waited patiently they finally said they weren’t in line and I went around to the hostess and checked-in 9 mins after my reservation time. I then waited and after 25 mins waiting and watching others being seated who had not had reservations I inquired, only to be told- well you were late so we gave your table away. This is unacceptable. With many, many wonderful options in Chicago and Lincoln Park alone, myself not my friends or family should have to frequent an establishment with employees having this demeanor.
Our family of 4 loved it (2 kids 11 & 15 months old): the food was great and the atmosphere definitely reminded of LA 👍
We generally love this restaurant.
Nice sunny inside but very loud
Food was OK, one dish Spicy Tofu was Soggy Tofu
Waiter was sloppy, spilled wine, forgot to fill someones glass, and was inattentive
Corkage is 25$ which is fair
Overall, its best feature is the decor
The venue is a sheer delight, specially for lunch on a sunny day. The server could not have been better. Sadly the food, which sounded so interesting on paper, did not deliver. The one exception is dessert. The baked goods alone are a reason to go back.
Service and atmosphere were great, unfortunately the food was lackluster compared to other Lettuce Entertain you concepts!
Over-priced (guacamole @ about $17) and way over-salted Better suited for the suburbanite set.
Great atmosphere, food, and drinks!
Great for brunch with girlfriends!
It was good but expensive for what you get- not outstanding.
Always great. From out of town and get 20-40 pieces of baked goo to tKe home and love it!!!
Had an afternoon glass of wine. Such a pretty restaurant. Our server was great. We both liked our kale salad. The tuna on top was fresh. Will definitely go back.
Food was excellent! My daughter loved her birthday dinner. Delicious fish tacos!
Way too loud! The aloof waiter couldn't stop with the attempts to upcharge. When he asks if you want a fruit salad as a side dish to a sandwich, why can't he tell you there is an extra charge of $3. Same with the tater tots.
The mushroom soup was amazing. The artichoke was phenomenal. The portion of scallops seemed small for the price.
Always a great atmosphere but the food is not as great as it used to be. I got the steak and was pretty disappointed especially for the price. They dont give a lot for the price you pay.
Way overpriced for the quality of food
The place is beautiful and the service is good
The service was great. The appetizers were great. Main course of Halibut was a little over cooked but eatable. Didn't like the non diverse crowd. Looked like it could have been a party for Hitler. Might be just me. Chicago is a melting pot of people. It just seems strange that a popular restaurant would be entirely composed of middle aged and younger white folks. I'm white myself but when i come across something like this in a big city i find it offensive. I would recommend restaurant for their food and service but that would be it.
Server (Charlie) was great and food and drinks were so good as usual
Great good, relaxed ambience, fun place to celebrate life with friends!
The space at Summer House Santa Monica is very inviting and well put together. The vibe is fun and the space shines on nice days. The food is underwhelming especially in a city with many high quality options. The presentation is nice, but the flavor is flat. Each person in our party of four commented on the blah quality of the food. I would recommend Summer House for drinks with friends, but skip the food.
They have changed their menu and eliminate many of the good selections
Food was fair. Not as good as it was
As pretty as the restaurant is we will not return
Who is managing the restaurant is ruining it
To bad—it use to be bone of our favorites
The couple with us said the same thing
The experience, food and service, was very good. Would like to see more options without meat and shellfish, such as fish.
Love this place. Food is amazing especially brunch, drinks are great and desserts are fantastic! Love coming here.
The experience that we had was beyond incredible. From the beginning to the very end. The service was great completely and utterly were attended to. The three ladies at the host station, our server, the food runner and the manager everyone was incredible and I am so thankful for the experience that we had. The food was great definitely recommend the chicken tostadas, super good! Our server Tess, was Attentive, sweet, and incredibly understanding. I will continue to go back again and again. Thank you
It’s extremely loud even at brunch. Hard to have a conversation
When nearby tables are literally screaming. Need noise reduction.
Food is delicious, and they have an amazing gluten free menu. The tables are a little close together and thus it's a bit noisey
I hosted a small bridal shower brunch. Summer House was very accommodating to let me come in early and set up a few surprises. The food was great, and the service was attentive but not overbearing.
RECOMMEND! We chose the Summer House Santa Monica, specifically, for their gluten free pancakes. The ability to order gf pancakes in a restaurant is rare and these exceeded all expectations. Frequently, making a traditional flour product gluten free results in an item with a density most resembling wet cardboard and not the fluffy pile of deliciousness that ended up in front of me. With such impressive breakfast results I made sure to grab a gf cookie on my way out.
Excellent service, food was good.
Service was great and venue is charming but noise level is distracting for conversation and floor space ( table arrangements ) so congested .
Food was good but a bit on the pricey side . Good wine and cocktail selection .
Recommend visiting on a weeknight .
Our server Tess was the best!!!
One of our favorite restaurants. We've eaten there three times and each time the food & service have been consistently excellent. Can't wait to return when the roof is open!
I loved the ambience! I felt like I was on a get-away for a couple hours! The tomato bisque was fantastic and our Cobb salad was also great! The roasted cauliflower was cold and it wasn’t take off the bill until we asked why. The cocktail and mocktail were amazing! Our server just seemed like he wasn’t into to working that day. I get it, it happens, but it was our first time there. Lastly, I wish they had better options for gluten-free fish tacos. I really love sea food and the options just didn’t work out. Maybe next time!
Phenomenal, as always. Special Lobster Risotto was superb - so much lobster for the price. Will be back again soon, I am sure.
We had a great time and enjoyed everything we ordered. Our waitress was great and checked in on us throughout our meal. Will definitely be returning.
Loved it! Beautiful setting and delicious meal. Great for kids too.
Service was quite slow
