What Insiders Are Saying
It doesn’t get much better than having a Spanish brunch on Terra Plata’s rooftop garden in Capitol Hill. We like it for Monday night paella too.
Lovely patio seating, acknowledged birthday celebration on specially printed menus, great handmade spicy Bloody Mary and food. Enjoyed the atmosphere and staff!
The rooftop is amazing and has nice heaters for a chilly day. Will be back.
The room was quite warm, not sure if the AC was broken.
It can get busy during peak hours, so if you're expecting a quick bite, this may not be the place. However, it is a FANTASTIC place if you're looking to have a easy-going meal and good conversation with your dining partner. The music isn't too loud so it's easy to actually have a conversation! Love it. The staff are friendly and lovely. Celebrated an anniversary date here and they had cute touches on the menus and do their best to make it feel special. Love Terra Plata.
Honestly, the food was great. Terrific upper deck with adequate heating outdoors, and good, interesting, decently priced drinks. Our waiter was terrible. Really terrible, but the other people working were helpful and friendly. If we had a different waiter and didn't feel overlooked and underserved, it would have been excellent.
Every time I eat at Terra Plata I am blown away. We started with the Spanish Octopus appetizer and it was the best octopus I have ever had - not over cooked and chewy like you so often get at other places. I then had the burger while my friend had the Zarzuela de Mariscos. Both were great. We finished the night off with the salted caramel chocolate bar which was basically an elegant, adult version of a snickers bar; so tasty! Five stars! I will be back again soon.
This is one of those rare restaurants where you can have a romantic evening one week, a business dinner the next and a family dinner the third week -- without ever getting bored of the food. And the wait staff really care about how you are enjoying your food and your comfort. Plus, you can hear the other people at your table because the noise level is low enough (though the energy is quite high!)
It was really good. The food was amazing. Highly recommend it.
After they realized that we had been seated, it took the waiter 17mins 34 seconds to offer us a drink and it wasn't even close to being busy, the food and drinks were awesome.
I reserved a table for 9 people and wasnt told we would be on the roof!!! It was not warm, and we didn't have a choice so we sucked it up. There were heat lamps above us, but Seattle on a 50 degree cloudy day isn't necessarily warm and we were concerned it would rain. Someone should've called me to ask whether I want to sit inside OR outside, if the restaurant doesn't offer to select this explicitly when making a reservation. I won't be eating here with a big party again.
Went there for brunch. Food was delicious! And they were very accommodating of some food restrictions I currently have.
We have dined at Terra Plata on several times and have always had a pleasant dining experience -- until
now. Six of us went to dinner there on Saturday, at my suggestion. The restaurant was frantic, the service staff were literally running, and it was extremely loud. Needless to say, the service was terrible. We had to chase our server down to get attention as he raced by. There were long lags between receiving our beverages and food. The kitchen eventually sent out a complimentary order of house made chips as an apology and to stave off our hunger until they could finally get our food served. The only thing that saved our experience from complete disaster was that the food, when it was eventually served, was excellent. Excellent food aside, it will be a long time before I return to Terra Plata.
TERRIBLE service! We sat with an empty table waiting for our drinks and food most of the 2.5 hours. Almost made the food taste bad!
Wow! For Seattle Restaurant Week we usually pick places we haven’t been to before. Somehow, when making our res it didn’t register that Terra Plata was the fab Spanish place on Capitol Hill that holds the standard for the best grilled octopus we’ve had. But still glad we ended up here again because we were wow’d again by their offerings. I started with the celery root soup with caviar and chives, a zarsuela de marisco – halibut, mussels and clams in a sofrito simmer, and a goat cheese mousse with lemon curd, berry compote, and meringue that had me licking my plate. I am not usually a fan of halibut or mussels but SRW is all about challenging our palates (and stretching our stomachs). Glad we did. These were the best mussels I’d ever had. The texture and tenderness of each was unlike any previous experience I’ve had with either. If all mussels and halibut dishes were like this, I would be ordering all the time. I wanted more! The zarsuela de marisco was easily favorite entrée of SRW! My husband had the butter lettuce salad, chimchurri steak, amd a salted caramel chocolate bar with banana semifreddo. I’m sure his choices were great because he hardly shared a taste with me either, but I loved all of my dishes so much!
Overall had a great experience. Food was fantastic, the highlight being goats cheese mousse for desert. Service was good and prompt however the only downside was that the server took away the silverware before my girlfriend was finished with her appetizer/starter which we felt was rude and they should have waited for both of us to finish.
Luckily this did not diminish our experience at Terra Plata and we would return and recommend to friends
They had a nice Restaurant Week menu. My fish was a little dry and overcooked. Flavorings and combos were good. I always like the feel there. Even with a birthday party of 10 next to us we could easily converse. A good place for celebration or casual highlighting the bounty of the northwest products.
More servers were needed. Waiting and have to wave down servers is uncomfortable and annoying.
Really upbeat servers once we got their attention.
TP can do better.
Mario the wine steward was great! Food was delicious!
It was delicious food !
All and all was not bad, beautiful decor and the roof top patio was amazing! I wish I could be there to see what it looks like in the Summer when all of the fresh herbs and flowers have grown.
Right from the start the host seemed a little frazzled, and annoyed with being there as she did not come across as begin very hospitable.
Once we were seated the server was very prompt to get to our table but took a long time to get back for a drink order. Service seemed very scattered due to not having enough support/enough servers for the brunch rush, it also looked like there were some new people on the floor as they were getting the table numbers wrong because they were running the food to the wrong tables.
Not sure where the manager was but the servers seemed on their own with no leadership support. Perhaps it was the first day that the patio was open? Food was under seasoned and my steak and eggs was over cooked but fantastic flavour, buttermilk biscuit and jam was very good, and the wine list suited the food menu very well.
Fabulous food, excellent service and we love the roof top seating.
Duck fat potatoes were amazing; bread pudding french toast was a pleasant surprise; great coffee too. server was attentive and talkative.
A friend took me there for dinner and I loved their paella. So, I made a reservation for a date night with my husband on Saturday of the same week. The food was very fresh and delicious. However, I didn’t understand the attitude of a couple waiters. I guess we dressed too casually(?!). The host was very sweet and welcoming, but we didn’t feel very comfortable about the waiters. Our waiters didn’t seem to be welcoming at all. I’m super new to the restaurant (because my friend did all the orders last time) and I really had no idea what I should order. My husband and I decided that we’re having the same dish; and as I only ordered 1 entree for 2 people (assuming they’re asking for how many people like how you order the paella), he didn’t bother to check if I meant 2 servings for the same dish and rushed away. I honestly didn’t wanna ask for anything else anymore! Another waiter brought dessert menu after we finished our entree but we decided not to have any desserts. That guy actually acted very weirdly and left. I really love the foods here! However, I wish the servers could be so much more friendly. Considering the price range is pretty high, I expected a much better service! If you can pass the snobby attitude to enjoy the foods, this place is worth trying at least once. If not, I recommend somewhere else. I’m taking my husband there for at least one more time for a paella night, but am not sure if we’re coming back after that.
First time at Terra Plata. Had a pleasant meal on the roof. It was a special occasion so we decided to splurge based on what we had read about Tamara Murphy's place. Everything was tasty, well-prepared and reasonably creative. We had the halibut, nettles risotto and the signature roast pork. That was yummy. But when entrees are priced from $30-$40, you tend to expect too much. One starter was $12 for potato chips. Just seems a little steep.
It’s always a great place and our waiter and the weather made it even better this time. Jordan was a phenomenal wait person! Thanks!
The food was good. I enjoyed my main course.
This was a return visit for us. We enjoy the quality and uniqueness of the food. We dined on the rooftop. A perfect spring evening in Seattle. We will definitely dine at Terra Plata again!
Great place for a date or evening with a group of friends. Only complaints were that the pig was oversalted, there was still some sand in the clams, and the burger was messy because it was drenched with oil.
Wine, food and friends. Crudo, beet salad, octopus and pork were the highlights. The layout makes this especially nice for intimate dinners. Ask for the upstairs for extra ambiance.
Best paella I have had outside of Madrid. Dessert was incredible-- especially the salted chocolate bar.
Sadly we thought there would be live spanish music on Mondays and adjusted our visits to be able to have live music. There was no music playing. We sat downstairs.
The food was delicious and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We ate on the terrace and it was pleasant and warm with the heaters. Terra Plata is terrific. All the guests except 2 were from out of town and all said they were so glad they came here.
Fifth time here over the last several years. Visited with 4 people with four specific dietary restrictions. The server was very knowledgeable about each item and what was safe for each person. They were very accommodating and provided prompt and appropriate service. Will go again
Excellent service and food. From the host to all the servers, they were all amazing
Terra Plata is defined by its ingredients but suffers from its inability to execute. The many different parts and pieces of the dining experience are, held in isolation, really special. These are obvious things like the origin of the ingredients in the food - Locally sourced, organic, fresh, and truly farm-to-table. They are also less obvious things like the shape of the dining room and the materials that surround you - Uniquely triangular and full of timber and brick. Sadly however, Terra Plata fails to bring any of this together. The building blocks of the restaurant itself are amazing, but the dining experience is mediocre at best. The food itself is wholesome and clearly prepared with great care, but it lacks imagination and tastes incomplete. I can't remember more than half of the half dozen dishes we sampled. The service was terrible - Our server was terse, strangely frustrated, and uninterested in our experience at the restaurant. We wont be coming back.
Food is amazing and service is incredible!
We came here for a special occasion (birthday) and sat on the rooftop terrace. The food was excellent, and our server's recommendations were spot on. The menus were pre-printed with "Happy Birthday" for our group which was a nice personalized touch. Even though the evening was a bit chilly, the heaters on the roof made it an enjoyable temperature. I would definitely recommend this place for an enjoyable, relaxing, delicious meal.
Great food and terrible service especially if you are on the roof but even in the dining room based on our last 3-4 visits.
Fabulous, inventive food, reasonable portions, great service. The food is absolutely the star here. It's a bit noisy and not inexpensive, but it felt like having a personal chef cooking for us.
Elegant ambiance and eclectic range of food choices. They catered to vegetarian diner by modifying some dishes. Nice experience.
