The Cow
A fantastic night had by all, food and service was top notch, old fashioned pub that needs no gimmicks , loved it.
One of the best meals I have had in London for a long time. Very good service and very good value. Quite a loud room.
The Fish Stew was the outstanding entree among several excellent offerings. This small cozy dining room above a boisterous neighborhood pub was a lucky find.
The GM was a lovely man, he added to our special evening. Thank you. Loved our meals, ambience was great. Recommended by another US friend, well worth going to!
Group of very drunk/high men in restaurant that the staff could not control. Should have moved them to bar after they had finished eating. Instead the staff admitted they thought it was easier and non confrontational to leave them alone - not good for the other diners. Shame as food was excellent but impossible to have a conversation across the table
Old fashioned in a good way and with a local neighbourhood feel
Too many such pubs are disappearing ie di burgers so let’s support The Cow
fantastic food and the staff were superb, great buzz in the pub downstairs before and after
Nice, friendly atmosphere. Perfect pasta. Lovely choice of English cheese. Good wine list.
Wonderful!! The best Sunday roast We ever ate!! Excelente ambience and staff.
Great food. Great staff. Quirky decor. Loved it all.
Great venue and well cooked food. Saw a couple of the seafood 'spectaculars' being delivered to other tables and these really were impressive. Not cheap but great service.
Fabulous local gastro pub.. sublime oysters & wine list... Chicken Kiev also highly recommended
Love this place. Great food. Great staff and service. Perfect for casual dinner or a celebration. Fish lovers paradise. Fish strew is their trademark. Good steak too, and meat pie. Best chicken Kiev in London.
Knowing the reputation of “The Cow” there is very little I can add except to say it lived up to it!
My Cracked Crab first course was plentiful, well garnished and proficiently served.
Is there much that hasn’t been said about the Roast Beef here? Simply excellent and full of flavor.
If I have a grumble its that the cheeseboard is somewhat mean, just half a dozen biscuits and only one cheese from a choice of three was a disappointment.
On the whole though a delicious traditional British Sunday lunch.
Even the Yorkshire puddings were up to scratch, considering that they were made “down south!”
We enjoyed our evening and the Cow Fish Stew was truly delectable
Good food as always but the evening was partly spoiled by the cancelling of our restuarant reservation due to over booking on their part. We were offered and given a table in the bar area (which is fun) but no apology and no recognition that this arrangement wasn’t suitable on this particular evening.
A simple phone call prior to our arrival, explaining the over booking problem would have been appreciated.
Ate upstairs in the fine-dining room. Great food. The best muscles I’ve ever had - and cooked in cider not wine. Very friendly staff. Their own lager is fantastic.
Lovely as usual! I levevthe pub and in this occasion together with football and interesting match a must to go!
They know what they’re with fish: Really nice mussels & salmon, perfectly cooked & unfussy.
My favourite pub in London. Great food, lovely staff and house wine more than decent. Screening the World Cup downstairs.
Really good meal and especially great value for money!
Every dish was really good and with fresh produces. A real discovery
Only the Sole (fish of the day) was drowning in oil and it would have been way better with just a splash and not the whole pan it was cooked in emptied in the plate.
Other than that, everything was spot on and the fish stew is not to be missed
Should definitely use this venue more.
Not great. Surly service cramped dining room very loud and self consciously trendy.
Service particularly bad and not the first time. I usually spend a fair amount in here have the champagne and oysters but after three lacklustre visits in the past year since the refurb we won’t be going back. It’s a shame I used to like it but staff should be doing something that they like not working in hospitality. As a famous German once said “ just because we serve you does not mean we like you” if they want to make it great again get some great staff and put the wall back up so you don’t have to listen to the raucous bar downstairs.
Good food and a steepish price in a quaint pub (gastropub) setting.
Excellent food and service. Definitely call ahead as it is a small space.
We had a delicious meal at The Cow, always great food and wine, staff are super friendly and helpful. 10 on 10 for Chicken Kiev! Great value for money, always a fantastic night in the Cow!
Thanks!
Cosy and great staff
Super yummy dinner, the food always delivers, the smoked mackerel pate and the crab pasta huge winners this evening!
Great plateau de fruits de mare completely wrecked by appalling over priced Prosecco, so dreadful in taste that a Budgen convenience store would have been ashamed to stock it. Worse, it was warm. Even worse still, whilst the ever willing staff stated they didn't have the power to reduce its price by way of recompense for it being £40, undrinkable and meal wrecking , they did bring house champagne by way of substitute/goodwill. Also warm, also quite undrinkable and very foul indeed.
Shame, the meal, although £98 for two, was outstanding.
Great roast as always, love the dining room
And the staff are very accommodating! One of my all time favs!
Amazing food, great service, attentive and helpful staff.
Table of 4 including Finns and a German business contact. I wanted to show them somewhere a bit more local and down to earth than the normal venues for a business meal and The Cow was exactly the right choice. It doesn't try too hard but the quality of the food was excellent. The famous fish stew went down a stomr with the foreign Diners and the wine list has it pretty well covered. For me, this was much more enjoyable and relaxed experience than going to one of the finer restaurants in central London.
a great great place __________________________________________________
The Cow is a long time stalwart, always reliable and there is little to add to what has already been said. We went on a Friday night and found the usual buzzy atmosphere downstairs and on the street. The dining room was quieter, but very pleasant. I am usually reluctant to pay extra for bread and am happy we did at this occasion as we were quite hungry and got a very nice foccacia with lovely olives and radishes.
My starter, a simple frisee salad with soft egg and lardons was decent, but the pre-cooked egg (nice and runny, but ice cold)and lardons (a bit dry on the outside and cold) were disappointing. Make them fresh, it takes only a few minutes, and will make the dish so much more enjoyable. The mains didn't disappoint tough. The fresh crab tagliolini were perfectly cooked, with plenty of crab meat in the sauce - beautiful. Likewise the fish stew which was a hearty flavorsome stew packed with big chunks of different fish and mussels, very well complemented by the spicy rouille.
Service was great as always. The wine list very good as is the selection of beers. All in all, a comfy night out with the right mix of pub, Notting Hill (as it used to be) and great food.
For a local traditional pub, the ambience in the restaurant is very cool ..I have eaten in the bar downstairs and also in restaurant and you can choose according to quiet upstairs or cool and happening downstairs .. The sea food platter is a must and the oysters are always the best value in the area. I have yet to have a bad experience or meal in this wonderful gem
What a find! The fish stew was amazing! It's been on the menu for a gazillion years and you'll understand why when you try! The wait staff was very engaging, fun and happy with their jobs...what a refreshing experience. Thank you!
Amazing food, Guinness and service. I love the cow!
great! Very good food and menu, great service as well.
The food was amazing (my recommendation is the Cow fish stew), and the staffs were also very nice! We are both Japanese and had cravings for fish - we are very much satisfied with the quality and the service!
