The food was very good with knowledgeable waiters bringing it to you and quite attentive overall. In particular, we liked the initial appetiser by the chef, the raviolis and the white pork and finally the St John's wood honey dessert.
Although there aren't any amuse bouche at the start we were pleasantly surprised by the petit fours at the end and the madeleines as a present when we left,
The food and wine were outstanding and we were very well served. We opted for a £50 promotional offer via our booking with Open Table which included 5 courses and a glass of champagne. We also chose the house red which was excellent at the budget end of their extensive wine list. Overall the bill with service was well under £100 per head which felt like really amazing value for this top end restaurant.
I have no hesitation in recommending The Square.
Given how outstanding the food and service are at this well located restaurant, I was shocked that it wasn’t busier on my most recent visit. The haute French cuisine is top notch with a fabulous wine menu.
Expected this to b fantastic but was rather disappointed. There was No a la carte menu and we had to order far more food than we wanted to eat. Waiters kept telling us it would be fine but it was not. Service was slower than even the most leisurely diner, which we are not. Everything was fantastically created and plated but not always delicious tho beautiful. Far too precious for my taste. Would like them to scale down a bit.
Really nice, friendly and helpful staff. Food was really tasty, lovely presentation. I thoroughly enjoyed it and a serene atmosphere.

Went for my birthday with my husband who isn't a foodie but enjoyed it very much.
They weren't intimidating as I'd expected they would be ;) and not too tiny portion either. We were properly full (ok we ate a lot of bread but only because their butter was amazing!) and skipped dinner.
We had lunch tasting menu, and it was like a story - started off with amuse bouche and moving on to next dish to another with different texture and explosion in my mouth.
Lunch tasting menu is affordable 60.00, but regretted not going for 90.00 full tasting menu! Next time :)
Have been here everytime we visit London from the states and the food is gorgeous, wine list superb and service just about right. Cannot go wrong with picking this beauty.
...then this is your place. The menu requires one to be an adventurous eater. That said, the risks were not worth the reward. The entrees were fussy, but frankly, not so great. Overall, a big disappointment.
I had the Tasting Menu with paired wines again and would have no hesitation in recommending this gastronomic treat to anyone who has yet to experience it
A brilliant place for fantastic food, amazing service with friendly and very professional. A fantastic combination of formal and informal, beautifully prepared food which is to die for to eat and crisp everything but not as though you feel you cant relax. y partner was given a personal menu and gifts to take home which was not necessary but a lovely thought. Def will be going back for any occasion!!
The place is nice, a typical 2 michelin star restaurant with usual suspect dishes. Good service though.
Celebrating a 40th birthday, not only was the food perfectly presented, tasty and balanced but the service was on point and they even presented my wife with a personalised birthday card from the team and some yummy gift packaged chocolates, nice touch!

Extremely nice dinner for St Valentine, the atmosphere is very romantic and the courtesy of the staff makes the evening even enjoyable. The foie gras and the deer were simply amazing, definitely the best I've have ever eaten in my life!
For the wine, we asked the sommelier for suggestions and the wine selection was extremely good and not pricey at all. He also added a lot more information about the wines and their origin, definitely a nice add-on.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant for any special romantic occasion
The quality of the cuisine and the combination of flavours and tectures was truly outstanding. The service was equally good, combining attention to detail without being intrusive.
As you would expect from a Howard restaurant, all courses were well balanced, and well cooked. However for a two starred restaurant I was underwhelmed, with nothing which stood out or delighted. Service slightly overly attentive.
Food was fabulous, but the place smells so much that I couldn't even belief the Michelin people dared to stay long enough to finish their dinner and gave two stars !

atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, decided upon a la cart as opposed to taster menu the lasagne crab was excellent as was the foir gras which are the signature dishes. I had the 55 day pork which was full of flavour and lighter than the fallow deer which was richer. The date soufflé is a must excellent! Service was well timed without being over the top. The somelier was both knowledgable and helpful offering wines of varying prices all affordable! It was my husbands birthday and the extra touch of a signed personal menu with a bag of chocolates finished off what was a special meal. Would certainly recommend a visit, it was my second and I will return.
This was our 2nd visit to The Square and it did not dissappoint. We had the 6 course lunch tasting menu which considering the superb quality of the food was excellent value at £60 per head. They handled replacing the pork dish for my wife totally seamlessly and with absolutely no fuss, in fact her White Park Beef was even better than my Crisp Berkshire Pork Jowl. The Amuse Bouche at the start were stunning, all 3 of them, particularly the Mini Beetroot Meringue stuffed with Foie Gras. The Cornish Mackerel was so fresh and perfectly cooked that it melted in the mouth and the Stuffed and Glazed Chicken Wings were the tastiest chicken dish I have had in years. They saved the best until last with a Vanilla Rice Pudding Souffle with Rhubarb Ripple Ice Cream, absolutely divine! The staff were really friendly and attentive and made us feel completely at ease right from the moment we arrived. The wine waiter gave us the full decanting performance at the table even though we had ordered one of the cheaper wines on the list (a superb Gigondas), made us feel very special. The interior has not been changed since it first opened and it is probably due a bit of modernisation but we loved the nice large tables with plenty of space between. We will be back next time we have a special occasion to celebrate.
It is wonderful when a restaurant lives up to it's reputation - our meal (we went for the tasting menu but chose our own wine rather than have too many different wines) was inventive without being weird, beautifully planned and presented. Service was exemplary and pitched appropriately. Thank you.
The menu was pretty good i must say, and the taste of it is rather lovely as well. It negative of the experience was that the service of the restaurant was extremely poor (especially for a 2 star michelin restaurant), most of the staff did not even look like they wanted to serve food.

We had the set lunch taster menu, 6 beautiful courses. Great accompanying wine advice, although quite pricey but we did go through 6 bottles, including champagne! Heck you only live once and we all enjoyed it.
We have been wanting to try The Square for some time and it was with some anticipation that we arrived on Saturday night. First impressions were that it was freezing cold in the restaurant (some people wearing coats!) and that the decor was a little sterile. We chose the tasting menu, which started with an array of delicious amuse bouche; however, we were decidedly underwhelmed by the remaining courses, which seemed a little bland if anything. The wines were good, a very eclectic mix from around the world, it's always welcome to try something new. The staff, in particular our waiter, were very good. I just don't think this compares to Launceston Place for food, ambiance or value for money
The Square has been on my list of places to dine ever since buying the two outstanding cook books by Phil Howard. With it being my girlfriends birthday we decided to go, but specifically for the tasting menu, so to get the full range of food. It was amazing from start to finish, with special memories of the Cod and Octopus dishes. Flawless service, everything we could wished for and more.
The lunch menu offers excellent value for money and although limited in choice the food is exquisite and faultless.
This is the 5th time I've eaten at this restaurant so I've obviously enjoyed previous occasions. This time it was just ok when one takes into account the prices or the overall value. Other than the Entrance Greeting, all other contact, whilst faultless in terms of service, lacked any degree of warmth and sincerity and as we left, we felt we had just dined upon a professional conveyor belt.
The six-course lunch tasting menu was such a reasonable price, that we happily opted for that as we had sufficient time before our next engagement. We liked: the amuse-bouche of chicken consommé with its super pickled walnut jelly, crunchy fried onion and butternut squash purée; the flaked salt-cured cod which combined beautifully with a bright red juniper sauce, raw chestnut, chestnut cream, fresh leek hearts and heritage potato; the slow-cooked (waterbath) duck egg and its Speck crumble, "melted onions", chanterelles, and the nice touch of some Poilâne toast as a soldier for dipping; the flame-grilled mackerel, as superb as we expected and enhanced with an excellent vegetable mixture, beach herbs, chives and delicious mussels; the ox cheek main course which deserves Oscar status, slow-cooked overnight in veal stock, chicken stock, beef stock and vegetable stock and then glazed with a fabulous reduction of the stock to yield a texture to match the deep, rich flavour, contrasted with the baby shallots and turnips and the perfect potato mousseline; the generous and classy cheese plate, often a supplement elsewhere, made up of Stilton, Waterloo, excellent Comté and Monrachet goat's cheese and some hazel nut toast, light oat cake and raisin bread to help it down; the surprising dessert of good, light clementine and camomile fool cleverly accompanied with wild thyme and a touch of olive all amazingly perfectly in balance and well served by the tiny macarons and tasty tuile; the chocolate rock and caramel marshmallow with the very good coffee.
There were, however, two fairly minor niggles, namely that, even with our preference for not being rushed, we found the initial tempo to be dragging on, and not all the staff managed to impress and it was noticeable that some did not last the whole lunchtime shift.
Nonetheless, this was a seriously good dining experience which echoed our view of our previous meal at The Square.
we had to wait too long for our main dish. It looked like they were sleeping in the kitchen . The wait was awful. we will not return there .
This was our first visit. The service was impeccable and the food was delightful. However, the atmosphere in the dining room was a bit sterile. A few plants and rejigging of tables could create a more intimate and relaxed atmosphere.
We have eaten several times before,and have always loved it . However this time it was a little dissapointing , the food was excellent as always but the service was definitely lacking. We were not offered an aperitif, but then somewhat rushed to make our wine choice, which then took ages to arrive and just about made it in time for our first course. As I say the food was top quality great seasonal ingredients ,beautifully presented and tasted wonderful. We also had to ask for bread not great. Later we decided to order another bottle of the same wine which took over 15 minutes to arrive and we were well into the next course when it did which somewhat spoilt it. Personally I think that they were very understaffed that evening,but when you are paying these sort of prices and the service charge comes to over£40.00 for 2 people they really need to keep on top of these issues. However we will go back as I'm sure it was just a blip!

My Husband is a chef and has wanted to eat at The Square for a while now, so for his birthday I took him there for the tasting menu. The staff were lovely and attentive, the food was impeccable and the ambiance was inviting. On arrival we were offered champagne and canapes, we then sat dwon for our meal and were offered even more canapes followed by 8 courses and then finishing off with some artisan chocolates and sweet. Before we finished the staff presented my husband with a signed menu and truffles for his birthday which we thought was a lovely touch. All in all a very happy customer.
far from other restaurants of the same level, plates were not enough hot when served, the fish was overcooked, and for the tasting menu, it was a very poor experience.
